Christmas is barely even religious anymore.
Yeah, it's all materialism now.
Lol Christmas isn't stolen from pagans.
Yes it is.
I thought the Bible never clearly stated a day or a time frame. It only really gave you such clues to the time of birth as described in the setting and other objects.
Yea you're right, it doesn't say the exact day or times... Although I've thought it was March, apparently September and November are also possibilities. Check out this page, http://www.christiananswers.net/christmas/mythsaboutchristmas.html scroll down until you see the topic about his birthday.
It's not necessarily celebrating Jesus' birthday, but rather just celebrating his birth.
This.
The only really fucked up thing about Christmas, is it was started officially by Emperor Constantine, a well known roman emporer who converted from Paganism to Christianity, but still practiced Peganism behind closed doors. Sadly enough, today we celebrate Christmas, a holiday full of joy and cheer, but not many people know that it was started by a Pagan.

Oh god, not a PEGAN [sic]!
Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus. But if he doesn't like it, he should get over himself. Just like another old person with nothing to do but complain about the stupidest things.
No christmas is about celebrating the birth of santa, jesus isn't real.
And yet it is perfetly ok to have HAPPY DIWALI in huge fucking lights when even "Seasons greetings" is seemed inappripriate.
What a fucking joke.
No christmas is about celebrating the birth of santa, jesus isn't real.
Typical atheist reply. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not real.
You can't see emotions and yet they exist.
You can't see emotions and yet they exist.
You can see emotions when you look at somebody.
You can see emotions when you look at somebody.
Not necessarily. I am trying to back you up if you hadn't noticed.
Not necessarily. I am trying to back you up if you hadn't noticed.
Thanks, but I was still disagreeing. Lol.
But what if Jesus never existed?
If jebus din't exist there would be no christmas
Faze, you're an idiot
Faze, you're an idiot
You best be trollin'. Perhaps explain why instead of resorting to childish name calling.
I'm atheist and there's a star on top of my tree because stars look badass
theres a star on top of your tree because your mother put it there
It's not stupid trying to uphold the constitution. It's stupid to let it continue to be dismissed. There's a reason why we have a separation of church and state.
:doh:I can't stand the way people like you twist that clause of the constitution. The separation of Church and State is meant to keep the Government from adopting an official religion (as you may recall, they didn't want to wind up with a "Church of America"). It was never meant to restrict decorations for holidays.
I'm atheist and there's a star on top of my tree because stars look badass
You're atheist because you think that's badass.
I agree with the above user for the most part. Yes we should have seperation in that the government shouldn't adopt a religion. They also shouldn't prohibit people from practicing religious customs. Stars ain't going to make the world blow up.

They don't, they only stop government workers from decorating their government building.

Not in America anyway.

It's not the governments duty to endorse religion. The Supreme Court has ruled that governments can celebrate Christmas but cannot support Christian doctrine.

If you like, you can PM me or add me to msn. I don't say there's no god, but I've yet to see compelling reason to believe such a thing. Perhaps you could convince me? If you'd like to go one step further, convince me there's a Christian god.
Typical atheist reply. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not real.
That was just a joke anyway.
I'm not a full atheist, i'm open to the concept of religion i'm just not entirely convinced by it.
Typical atheist reply. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not real.
Typical religious reply. Just because you have faith in it, doesn't mean it's real.
Mm, Jesus himself is pretty pagan too. If you look at the god Mithra, Jesus is practically a recycling of them. There's also Horus and Dionysus.
ITT: People rate T-Minus10 dumb because they can't accept that what he's saying is correct.
who cares, this guy can just get the fuck out if he doesnt like it.
-snip- I'm not going to get into this.
*Sigh* 'tis the season for box giving.
Typical atheist reply. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it's not real.
Typical christian reply. Just because you can't completely prove that something doesn't exist, doesn't make it real.
Please stop making an idiot of yourself. Facepunch is not the place to bring your religious bullshit, we HATE that here.
-snip- I'm not going to get into this.
Good snipping there.
"Athiests trying to justify celebrating a religious holiday :smug:"
This is about the constitution and the segregation of religion and state.
It would be similar to the government putting a Christmas tree in the home of a Jewish family.
The holiday is mainly about peace, love, and good will to all men (and women, why are they never mentioned).
The religious factor only comes into play if you are religious.

Why should you have to be all peaceful, loving and joyous moreso during certain times of the year, is my question? (For the non-religious folk out there)
