Holy fucking shit yes.
I'm excited! My grandpa was a bomber pilot. Hes told me so many crazy stories about his time in the sky.
From Luftwaffe literally flying yards away from his bomber, turret machine guns jamming in the worst times, fellow pilots and crew dying, fields of German anti aircraft guns, to him being separated from his fighter squad. Its a very exciting time in history.
Honestly, I have so much respect for all the people who fought and died in WWII.
It's kind of like uninstalling a video game because it got boring and reinstalling it months later finding it even more awesome than when you bought it.
We had shitload of WWII movies and games at some point, it got boring, now I just want some more WWII stuff because fuck, I miss it.

The USA was hilariously wasteful with their airfleet during ww2 on the western front. The whole "We can get another one" mentality was horrid.

It's kind of true, when you have a huge manpower pool/industrial base. Unlike Britain, who was starved for the majority of the war.
Except they didn't have to. They could have done it at night, but I guess it was more of a symbolic thing as part of total war. Showing the German people that they could be hit while at work, etc.
My problem with The Pacific was how they only focused on the 3 main guys and left everyone else in the shadows. Band of Brothers portioned screen time and development between all the characters.
I wonder how well a series would go depicting from a german point of view on both fronts? That'd be awesome.

I'd like a German point of view, but on two fronts seems a bit tricky. All the other shows were done by one group of people, not two separated.
the same thing that happened to the Second World War in video games is now happening to in television: i don't give a shit anymore.
It'd be terrifying if it showed the point of view of a ball gunner.
Who wants to watch commies, anyway? :v:
me :\
a show about planes
how interesting
they should've just done the north africa theater or something

Well. 4. Although he didn't get his own episode. Snafu was still in most of it.
fuck yes
HBO knows how to do shows the right way, i have no doubt it's going to be great.
I honestly expected something about the eastern front, that would have been so god damn awesome, or if anything, something like BoB, I'm missing muddy Normandy.
But hey, that's Spielberg, I don't like that much planes, but if anyone can change my mind, it's him. Hell I bet I'll want to grow fucking wings when I'm done watching this shit.
A series based on The Forgotten Soldier and/or Black Edelweiss would be incredible. Last I checked Guy Mouminoux was still alive too, and I think Paul Verhoeven has pissed away his chance at making a movie based on The Forgotten Soldier by now.

You can be almost certain they will - it's such an under appreciated aspect of aerial combat from WW2 that they'd be crazy not to go into. If one of the main characters winds up being in a gunner position like that frequently, it could make for some pretty crazy scenes.

I just have to post this poem to show how terrible the job was.
From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.
They should have done the eastern front since they've done pacific and the western front, I don't know how bombers are going to be worth a miniseries.

Striking targets at night would be a massive pain, cities that are blacked out in addition to cloud coverage are just the tip of the iceberg for a bombardier to aim. Even if the target itself is just a city, they were still trying to pick off the industrial areas.
Am I the only one who doesn't care about any of the HBO shows? (Yes we have HBO at my house)
I wish they would do something like band of brothers, but on the Russian side in stalingrad. Now THAT would be fucking awesome (and really brutal).
Band of Brothers and The Pacific were great. But a whole mini-series from the perspective of a plane? We'll see.
I doubt they'd do the eastern front, and if they would, the side they'd be following would probably speak english and I'd hate that :v:
I'd rather they do another series set in Iraq or Afghanistan. I'm sure this one's still going to be fantastic but seeing something set in the Korengal valley or Fallujah would be something else entirely.
bbbb 17 baawwwmeerr
Damn, would've really loved a band og Brothers'esque take on the eastern front.
Best front.
that would be the eastern front of the north african front
Personally i think this has the potential to be very repetitive, obviously we'll have to wait and see but like everyone else I'd have preferred North Africa or Eastern Front from the perspective of any belligerents.
But still looking forward to what will come of this.
