Ironically the Wii U is the only console out there that isn't trying to be a pitiful excuse for a PC competitor.
ftfy [editline]7th May 2014[/editline] Also, I've always thought the Wii was a pretty stupid name. I liked its original title from 2005, the "Nintendo Revolution". Sounded like the console to end all consoles. Then they made it really shitty.
CNN never really knows what they're talking about. Not surprised they said that.
That article accurately reflects what the average consumer knows about the Wii U and why Nintendo is falling faster than an old lady in a LifeAlert commercial

It opened gaming's gates to non-gamers and casuals the world over. Whether you want to take that is a good or bad thing is a different story, but it did change the industry irrevocably.

Would've been a lot more fitting if they just kept it the same. "Wii" just sounds silly and infantile. There's no rhyme or reason as to why it's called the Wii.
In some lighter news Nintendo has stated that they are no longer selling the Wii U at a loss, somehow. https://twitter.com/gibbogame/status/464217206100738048 he was tweeting from Nintendo's fiscal meeting
What I don't like about Nintendo consoles is there are too many family games. I know it's a family console but I just think there is too much Mario, sonic etc.

It sounds dumb but it is definitely memorable and It feels friendly.
It still runs most of it's first party games in 60 fps 1080p though :v: I mean honestly, Mario Kart 8 is one of the most gorgeous games I've ever seen. Also, I'd love for them to diversify their portfolio but it's been proven that anything other than Mario, Zelda, Smash and Mario Kart wont sell, I mean W101 was a great game and it flopped hard, and I doubt the F-Zeros, Metroids (even though I desperately want Super Metroid 2 on 3DS or WiiU) or Star Foxes would fare much better. I doubt Bayo 2 will sell much either, but thats mindless speculation on my part.
worth nothing when we all know what sells best isn't on it

Nearly all of Nintendo's first-party titles are 720p, with Wind Waker HD being the sole exception that I know of (which unfortunately ran at 30fps, just like the original). Mario Kart 8 does look absolutely beautiful in motion; I've played it at an event and I can say that it's easily the prettiest game on the Wii U. Compressed, 30fps YouTube videos don't do the real thing nearly any justice. However it is actually 720p, and if you scrutinize official still screenshots Nintendo released you can definitely tell where they took visual shortcuts with low-poly backgrounds, low-res textures, and lack of anti-aliasing: [thumb]http://www.mariowiki.com/images/4/43/WiiU_MarioKart8_scrn19_E3.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://www.mariowiki.com/images/5/57/WiiU_MarioKart8_scrn04_E3.png[/thumb] But of course these are all things you won't notice while actually playing. I personally think the Wii U has some beautiful graphics, but people need to accept the hard fact that it's underpowered and not nearly as 1080p/60fps-capable as everyone makes it out to be.
the "Wii would like to play" commercials were pretty great
What I don't like about Nintendo consoles is there are too many family games. I know it's a family console but I just think there is too much Mario, sonic etc.
Mature games for mature gamers such as myself etc etc
Nintendo games are about style not polycounts anyways. I've never played a Nintendo game where I actively thought it looked like shit. I do however notice when I game that attempts realistic graphics but doesn't have a high budget does.
I literally only realized a month or so ago that the Wii U was an actual new console and not just an add-on pack for the Wii, their advertising is just so shit. At the local GAME store the poster for it only shows the controller, which further compacts the problem of people not knowing it's a console on it's own. They simply refuse to show the box itself to get the point across that it's a different thing, instead they seem to be advertising as it as though THEY think it's just a fancy controller addon.
the "Wii would like to play" commercials were pretty great
The music was catchy as fuck, but if that was the reason why they called it the Wii, they should've really rethought their choice.

Thanks. In regards to MK8 not being 1080p I'm fine with that to be fair, it still looks great and I'm glad they're prioritizing 60fps in a racing game, which is often a point overlooked in modern titles.
The music was catchy as fuck, but if that was the reason why they called it the Wii, they should've really rethought their choice.
(I could be wrong about this) I think they called it the Wii because it sounds like "we" and the two I's represent two people playing together.

I don't have a problem with MK8's graphics and I'd be pretty pissed if single-player was 30fps (because it is actually 30fps in three-to-four-player mode). I mean even some of the still shots could be wallpaper material with some anti-aliasing layered on: [thumb]http://www.mariowiki.com/images/4/4b/WiiU_MarioKart8_scrn01_E3.png[/thumb]
I don't like DVD players because there are too many kids movies available on DVD!
He's kind of right. He just worded it a bit wrong. He probably means that there aren't enough AAA games. You know, the kind of games that rake in millions of copies sold on the first days alone, and instead, its the same old mario title released on it.

Mario games are AAA titles that rake in millions of copies sold in the first days alone. The New Super Mario Bros. series is one of the best-selling game series in recent years. :v: I don't think you understand what "AAA title" means.
