Worst Demonstrating Tactics #204: Holding up signs on which the only thing your target audience can understand is the name of the movie you don't want them to watch
Haha I was thinking the same thing. 'Is that chick really holding a sign advertising The Cove'
''Sorry kids, we can't afford to buy food because terrorists prevented us from hunting whales, which is entirely legal thing to do. Now we're going to starve to death, but at least the whales are happy and kawaii and all'' USA invades terrorist countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. Why can't they invade the Greenpeace HQ? They might have tofus of mass destruction there.
I agree with Sea Shepard's cause, however I hope they take a more responsible course of action this time
i agree to
I wish theyd stop all the stunt BS and just start ramming Japanese whaling ships with hardened bows. Its clear they don't really give a fuck about their own cause or theyd be trying a lot harder. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
I meant our factory farming is their form of whaling. There are still some slaughterhouses that resort to unethical methods of killing animals, such as shocking chickens to put them into shock so they don't make any loud noise when they're being killed.
Really, the food industry is so twisted and grotesque, people really need to start buying organically raised, and consuming less meat overall. As for Japan, there's plenty of other food other than whales that can be eaten, and can be fished for cheaper. Whales are one of the few sentient animals on the planet, seems like a horrible waste to kill them for food, especially when its not really nessesary.

My avatar fits this thread.
[img_thumb]http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5737/okinawachuraumiaquarium.jpg[/img_thumb] Once again a trend started by the Japanese. They always end up dying though. I wonder why. And this is coming from someone who wants to open an aquarium in the future. There are just some animals that should never be in captivity. Cetaceans and Whale sharks are among them.
Do you have a link to the whale sharks dying? I visited the Okinawa aquarium in October and thought it was beautiful, what a sad untold story :( [editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
''Sorry kids, we can't afford to buy food because terrorists prevented us from hunting whales, which is entirely legal thing to do. No matter how much you want to stop something, you have to abide by morals, ethics, and laws to make it seem like a cause worth supporting. I wouldn't be supporting the Sea Shepherds at all if they assaulted whaling ships with brute force. It just makes them look like a bunch of assholes. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Think of it like agreeing with a war. I don't agree with any kind of war except for a select few which were completely necessary at the time they began. I think wars are stupid because they make the side fighting the "good" side look just as stupid and monstrous as the "evil" side. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. What did we do? We put every Japanese-American in a concentration camp. Japan raped and pillaged dozens of cities in their conquest of China. What did we do? We dropped two atomic bombs on them and damaged countless future generations. In the end all sides look like a bunch of asses, and neither cause is worth supporting when the methods both utilize to fight their cause make their cause look like a waste of time to support.

Now we're going to starve to death, but at least black people are happy and all" Replace slaves with anything. Economics and a refusal to reinvent their industry is a piss poor argument. Killing less whales or using more humane methods of hunting and killing the whales isn't going to end up with little Sato starving to death.

We put every Japanese-American in a concentration camp.
Internment camp, not concentration camp. Yes, there was a huge difference. Only a portion of Japanese Americans were placed in the camps, and even then it was only on the west coast. It was a response to the fact that Japanese spies had just successfully setup a surprise attack which had effectively wiped out our entire pacific fleet. We were now crippled in the pacific and were extremely vulnerable. The camps were never intended to be punishment. Their poor quality was due to the haste with which the program went into effect. It was a shitty program, but don't make it into something it wasn't.
Japan raped and pillaged dozens of cities in their conquest of China. What did we do? We dropped two atomic bombs on them and damaged countless future generations.
And yet even the most conservative estimates for a ground invasion of Japan put the FATALITIES several orders of magnitude greater than the current list of CASUALTIES. The atomic bomb was quite possibly the best thing that could have happened to Japan. We were coming one way or another. We would have reduced just about everything in that country to rubble. The fact that they basically only lost two cities did them huge favors in terms of economic restructuring and avoiding a complete collapse and subsequent occupation like Germany.

The show is cool and all, has a sweet theme song. But the people fucking annoy me.
We have alternative ways of getting food...no need to kill the animals that have a LIFE too, we are destroying the world, making all the species go away forever, HUMANITY SUCKS man, humans are mean. Now if anyone here stands by this guys hunting LIVING ANIMALS, the whales, take it this way as example: Imagine someone hunting your mom or sister whatever with harpoons just because they are hungry and they still know theres alternative ways of getting food, but they just like to hunt your mom or sister because they want a different taste and by the end give a conclusion that it tastes like chicken somewhat or somehow.

Most of their infrastructure had already been destroyed by traditional bombing, and the Soviet Union had just declared war on them. With the war in Europe over, and everyone turned against Japan, they may have surrendered before an invasion occurred.
Do you have a link to the whale sharks dying? I visited the Okinawa aquarium in October and thought it was beautiful, what a sad untold story :(
I haven't been keeping count, but so far I think two have died. Both were at the Georgia Aquarium. Contrary to Japan's fishing industry, The Okinawa Aquarium has a pretty good record. The fact still stands that whale sharks swim hundreds of miles a day, are a threatened species, and are just to big for captivity. You think they have "Sunk" on there for fun?
On July 16th, 1979, the Sea Shepherd found the Sierra and chased it into the port of Leixoes. Captain Watson rammed the Sierra twice in harbor, tearing the hull open to the waterline and forcing the ship into port for repairs. After a million dollars of uninsured repairs, the Sierra was sunk by Sea Shepherd operatives in Lisbon harbor in Portugal on February 6, 1980. Sea Shepherd permanently retired the pirate whaler Sierra and prevented anymore whales from being taken by her.

That same month, Sea Shepherd operatives sank two Spanish whalers in to the port of Vigo, Spain, (Ibsa I and Ibsa II)after Spain refused to comply with quota regulations on fin whales.

Also in 1980, working in cooperation with the government of South Africa, Sea Shepherd assisted in the seizure of the pirate whalers Susan and Theresa. The ships were taken out to sea and deliberately scuttled by the South African Navy.

The 1986 Hvalur sinkings occurred in Iceland's Reykjavík harbour in November 1986, when anti-whaling activists from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society sank two unoccupied whaling vessels, Hvalur 6 and Hvalur 7, and sabotaged a whale processing station in Hvalfjörður. No one was injured in the incident.

This was not an empty threat, with Captain Paul Watson supervising the sinking of two ships; the Nybraena in 1992 and the Senet in 1994. The anonymous and covert goup Agenda 21 then took over with the scuttling of the Elin-Toril in 1996.
It's all proudly there on their website. Japan invades countries like China n' Korea and raeped and murdered millions at a time. Why can't they invade their own fisheries? They might actually have to regulate and control their operations for once. I can play your game too.

What about the jerrrbs!? We gotsta protect the whalers and their jerbs. That's pretty much going to be the primary argument for them.
I bet no one in this thread likes the killing of the whales but no one wants to be on the side of hippies

down with whaling

http://ships-for-sale.com/aircraft_carrier.htm Somebody already bought it though. Next year they should get them selves a sexy long range plane for reconnaissance assuming that all there boats come back intact.
Last year the Bob Barker was a secret and launched from fucking Ghana. (and was painted en-route to the southern ocean) The Ady Gil was first out of Hobart followed by the Steve Irwin, but the Irwin was caught by a whaling security ship which can do laps around it and they couldn't get away so they retreated back to port and left again in the dead of night. This year the Steve Irwin has a massive radar dome on it. I'm assuming they assume with the range they get on that, that they can just go down as a fleet and avoid the security ship until they find the factory ship.
i'm sure it'll be useful for something
So its a bit of a fixer upper, no biggie. [editline]7th December 2010[/editline] Wow the Aussies actually let them register the boat under the Australian flag
