California always seems to be the one to circumvent standard practice here. Why are they allowed to proclaim universal jurisdiction? Speaking of which, I believe CA is also where that guy sued tons of spammers in small claims court, forcing them to settle rather than deal with the case.

DMCA is bullshit and so is the restraining order. Not even mentioning the fact that it wasn't created solely for pirating software. You have to keep in mind things like homebrew games.

They should also restrain the firm that made USB Flash Drives because that was involved in cracking and running backups.
Except Sony DID sue him and the way Sony is acting here is terrible And why the fuck does California have jurisdiction here anyway?
A restraining order is much better than a lawsuit for "supposed" future damages.
Does that mean he can't go near sony headquarters or something How does someone even get a restraining order from a company and not a person? :geno:
No, he's restrained from uploading the PS3 hack on any site.
Still leaves plenty of room for transferring to other people. Sony wasted effort on trying to stop this.
You bought the PS3 hardware. Why isn't it your right to modify the software on it? its not like you're selling your own console based on the ps3 with a different os
End-User License Agreement. If you don't like it, either return the unit, or get sued.
End-User License Agreement. If you don't like it, either return the unit, or get sued.
Its different for the first generation PS3 who had that clause sneakily put in. For the PS3 slim, you were shit outta luck in the first place.
EULA's doesn't mean that much in Europe :haw: Dunno why the US is so gay for them though.
Because we sue people like it's a big game of poker.
