I think it can be quite environmentally caused. There is(was, he is in jail now) a kid who lived on my street, we where about the same age and would always hang out and do stuff, this included capturing and hurting animals, smoking, and other things that a normal 9yr old would not do. Suffice to say my parents finally realized what this kid was doing and disallowed me to hang out with him any more, and for that I thank them greatly, as it turns out he was diagnosed to be a Psychopath by teams at juvenile detention. To this day I keep a fairly detached view on the world (I mean I understand it fully and am politically and socially adept, but I can see the bigger picture a lot more clear than most people I know), while I DO feel empathy and remorse, if I need to do something I can push it out of my way and get on with life, and I don't think I was born this way, I think that being with him for 7~ years of my life caused much of this.
These are generally healthy traits to have(the ones you described yourself having). You don't just become a sociopath from hanging around a sociopath. There are environmental triggers like extreme trauma or abuse, or genetic triggers. Also, if you aren't 18 you can't be diagnosed with ASPD. A team might have said that he has sociopathic tendencies(and this is a great opportunity for them to monitor the individual throughout adolescents to see if the trends continue), but that doesn't mean that a person actually has ASPD. Younger people can display anti-social tendencies because their minds aren't fully developed yet. That's something a lot of children grow out of.
Eh, I'm just not spooked by the kids. A little girl with a knife against me, a tall bulky man with great looks, just takes one punt.

Anyone seen the movie Pet Cemetery? The scenes with the kid still scares the shit out of me. Can't immagine a more frightening thing than small kids with knives running amok.
Oh god, the ''private part''-part of the video was so uncomfortable.
"psychopaths know exactly what they're doing -- they just don't care how it affects others" I hate when people say this sort of shit. They don't just "not care". They don't have the fucking ability to care. Their ability to feel empathy for other living creatures isn't even plugged in. It's like being mad at a blender for not working when it isn't getting any power. A psychopath doesn't make a genuine choice to hurt other people, they don't have the ability to understand that choice at all.
Well they do make the choice, but due to whatever has happened to them leaving them with no conscience they don't care about how it affects others. Kind of sad really.
That's the best therapy I've ever seen. "What would you like to stab your brother with?" "uhh.. a knife." "Okay" "Who else would you like to kill-or-something" "uhh... mommy and daddy?" "Okay"
I always find the concept of children committing murder and torture to be just... horrifying.
If anything I would find it less shocking and more expected; children don't even have their moral compasses yet, they don't know right from wrong, kind from cruel, so if anything they could commit such acts with ease.
Girls actually start masturbating very young usually because they don't need to be sexually mature to get active blood flow down there or for it to feel good, therefore it's very common for young girls (even at those very young years) to do it after they accidentally discover that it's pleasant - it also usually makes the parents absolutely terrified if they find out because they don't realise it's actually very common in girls. Doesn't make every god damn girl a psychopath.
That's not the reason she was classified as a psychopath, I just found it freaky. She said that she did it until it was raw and bleeding, which I found a bit unsettling
I used to have wild mood swings and an extreme lack of anger management , and when I was like 9 or so I ran at my brother with a knife. He managed to get away in time. Thinking back on it now , I'm just totally exasperated at myself.. and how I could've easily severely injured , if not killed my brother.. Does that make me a psychopath?
If you're exasperated at yourself I seriously doubt it. [editline]17th May 2012[/editline] But I'm not a fucking shrink. I am not licensed to diagnose or treat anything.
Aren't quite a few CEOs sociopathic to a degree? They can fuck over people without remorse because that brings them profit.
Aren't quite a few CEOs sociopathic to a degree? They can fuck over people without remorse because that brings them profit.
no thats called business
Aren't quite a few CEOs sociopathic to a degree? They can fuck over people without remorse because that brings them profit.
yes. basically.
guys there is a difference between being a psychopath and being an asshole.
guys there is a difference between being a psychopath and being an asshole.
This, guys. An asshole is someone who doesn't care, or doesn't care enough to stop what he's doing. A psychopath is incapable of caring. Where the asshole has the possibility of caring, and just doesn't, the psychopath doesn't have that choice - they simply don't care. And by "care," in this context, I mean "have empathy for." Business CEOs are assholes, but they are not (usually) psychopaths. Just because a CEO may make harsh decisions that hurt people, and may be able to do it without feeling much empathy for those they hurt, does not necessarily mean they does not have any empathy at all - chances are they have family and friends they do care about.
In all seriousness, this is just... unsettling... I mean, yeah, kids are assholes. They do assholish things, hiding your shit and making things sticky and playing "Kick the Fatty", but THIS... I truly hope that these kids get the help they need... It's despicable that these kids end up with such horrible... dispositions, let's say, because some inhuman monster abused them. It's just a shitty situation: if they get help and are, for lack of a better term, cured, they're stuck with the guilt of the things they did and thought and tried to do as children. If they don't get help, then they're gonna end up either dead or fucking with Edward Norton behind a few inches of plexiglass. There's just.... fucked up shit in the world... And God knows if it will ever un-fuck itself and go away...
Beth was allegedly cured-- she's a nurse now http://jl10ll.wordpress.com/2010/10/30/children-of-rage/
One of the youtube comments on the video in OP. "It's concerning to hear that as an adult, Beth was allowed to enter a career in -Pediatric Nursing - since young children are involved. Obviously it's not her fault what happened to* her but - no one can deny what she says in this interview - sexually abusing her brother, repeated painful acts towards his genitalia. It is well known Pediatric Nurses in the United States commonly assist & participate with circumcision - painful genital cutting of infant and young boys. No one think about that?" I think this guy has got a point.
What if sociopathy had various stages of severity?
What if I had a unicorn?
What if I had a unicorn?
Then you would be very lucky because I don't :'(
What if I had a unicorn?
I would cut out your eyes and then take the unicorn. Of course to start with chloroform.
