wouldnt that be a body transplant?
Now all we need is some fucked up government agency to do experiments on people. I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but we'll need a lot of practice to even begin to think of getting it right. Human trials are nessacary so we can push this technology a head.
One step closer to the brain-in-a-jar.
This whole premise is pretty fucking creepy tbh, grafting heads/brains to other bodies or machines..
People saying "how can this be used", brain dead patient donates body to paraplegic. thought of that straight away. This is good for Trans people, they get a usable vag/dick. I've always wanted to be a chick for a day (its not that weird is it, I'm not transexual) just to see what its like, any volunteers?
in the future rich ppl will mutilate "their" own bodies for entertainment and leisure and after disposing of them they will abduct the poor and harvest more bodies and repeat kidding maybe
I don't understand how a donor body would even be able to be prepared in time before necrosis kicks in and deteriorates vital organs and muscle tissue. Cool concept never the less, but I think it really is decades, maybe even a century away before being put to practical use.
donating a liver is feasible, but donating a body? I have a feeling those will be short in supply
ISIS has no shortage of headless bodies for sale :v: also this would be terrible to have. the older you get, the less information you can store. so if you keep getting new bodies it will only be a matter of time before your brain cannot handle all the information.
I've always wanted to be a chick for a day (its not that weird is it, I'm not transexual) just to see what its like, any volunteers?
i have a feeling the nerves for your dick wouldnt exactly match up to those of the female bodies vag
Yay, we no longer need to fear ISIS!
Also is it just me, or does anyone else prefer replacement limbs/bodies to look robotic rather than human-like? Though it could just be the uncanny valley there.
I wouldn't prefer them if they weren't as fluid and sophisticated in movement and grabbing as real human hands. [editline]1st September 2014[/editline] Or no, wait, you meant just the appearances? I wouldn't mind robotic or human-like, as long as they're sleek, and sweet.
This is over a year old and was actually posted here over a year: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1284422
Well okay, yeah it could be done But it wouldn't be 100% proper All we would be able to do currently is identify a broad section of nerve for controlling specific large muscles and sensation in both the body and the head, then connect them with either tiny electrodes or some artificial synapse, but all the fine connections wouldn't be bridged. For example, they may be able to grant macro-scale movements, but if the person could ever walk it would be the jitteriest walk ever with an extremely odd gate. Also there would be poor transmission of pain so the person could easily hurt themselves and not notice. And it's not like they can use a proverbial "glue" of sorts to join the spinal cords, like with stem cells or something else, because there are always individual differences between bodies and the nerves won't properly connect to the right pair. You wouldn't want a arm moving impulse to direct towards the heart for example. This would never be done in practice unless our future becomes one in which we have a back up full body clone.
We should standardise human head connections. USB heads.
My question is, why would anyone want this?
Because they don't want to be dead.
Because they don't want to be dead.
Oh no, it's just prolonging death, for death is inevitable.
I have a hard time seeing what this could be actually used for, if anybody has an idea please explain it to me.
Imagine if down the line we'll be able to grow braindead replacement bodies.
ISIS has no shortage of headless bodies for sale :v: also this would be terrible to have. the older you get, the less information you can store. so if you keep getting new bodies it will only be a matter of time before your brain cannot handle all the information. i have a feeling the nerves for your dick wouldnt exactly match up to those of the female bodies vag
The differences probably wouldn't be that huge. The bigger issues you'd have is your brain getting flooded by different amounts of hormones compared to standard.
Why the hell would anyone want to swap his mind with another person? It feels too much like Dexter's Laboratory to me. Jesus. Science can't still find a cure for cancer yet.
I have a hard time seeing what this could be actually used for, if anybody has an idea please explain it to me.
For transplanting heads. It pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin. [editline]1st September 2014[/editline]
They probably would, you're brains pretty plastic, it'll adapt and secondly dick or vag, they both start of as the same structure in the womb remember, they're just variations of one another really.
Oh no, it's just prolonging death, for death is inevitable.
Even if you became immortal, through other means, the universe is eventaully going to die a heat death. although I would like to live alot longer then 100 years. imagine the possibility for space travel.
Even if you became immortal, through other means, the universe is eventaully going to die a heat death. although I would like to live alot longer then 100 years. imagine the possibility for space travel.
even before the heat death you'll probably be killed by something at least. a meteor, rogue black hole, rogue star, etc.
Even if you became immortal, through other means, the universe is eventaully going to die a heat death. although I would like to live alot longer then 100 years. imagine the possibility for space travel.
So just build a Dyson Sphere around our galaxy. Done, easy schmeezy.
Create headless bodies in vats, transplant our heads onto them. Now all we have to do is prevent the aging of brains, and we can live forever.

Man's head on woman's body? Hmmm....

Why not transplant a dog's or someone's head to a human body? I mean we owe them that at least? Holy shit it'd be so awesome if it worked.
I have a hard time seeing what this could be actually used for, if anybody has an idea please explain it to me.
Locked in syndrome, for one thing.
