• Missouri bans students from friending teachers on Facebook

The best teachers I've ever had are ones who taught me more then just schoolwork.
I think you guys are misinterpreting what I'm saying as "I'm going to be a cold-hearted ass." That's not the case. I just don't care to have my personal life known to students. Nor do have I ever felt the desire to know the personal life of any of my teachers and professors.

As I've said, many of my teachers take an active interest and have a friendly relationship with their students- it allows them to connect with them and to help them better. We're a tight-knit community.

And, I'm from a medium sized city, I don't have the experience of a tight-knit community so I'm just not used to such a close relationship with everyone around either.
Isn't this going against the Constitution? Pretty sure it's taking away freedom of speech or something.
I'm sure that has been broken many times already.
Isn't this going against the Constitution? Pretty sure it's taking away freedom of speech or something.
lol. "that's-against-the-constitution!" kinda sick of hearing that
It's my schools districts policy not to add current students on social networking sites. Unless it's a sponsored coach (football, dance, art etc) or counselor.
lol. "that's-against-the-constitution!" kinda sick of hearing that
Well you can't pass laws in the US that contravenes it, so if you can prove a law you don't want passed does you can get rid of it without anyone even voting on it.
We weren't allowed to friend our teachers either :|
You shouldn't be able to friend your teachers while you attend the school, but after the teacher retires / transfers or you graduate then I don't see a problem. I don't even see why a teacher would want to add their students.
My teacher always posted her homework assignments for people like me that fucked off in class and did not write anything down so we still could get on the computer and do it anyway.
Well you, coming from not-USA, probably doesn't understand what the constitution means for us. The constitution is the supreme law of the land, it cannot and should not be broken. It seems nowadays that a lot of people are trying to break the constitution. But you wouldn't understand. Foreigners usually don't realize that the states really are sovereign nations, all bound by the constitution/federal government. The constitution ensures our basic rights and freedoms, if you break it, it basically tears the entire foundation of this country apart. But you wouldn't really know what thats like, because most European nations have been around long enough to simply slowly integrate and evolve their laws to incorporate these freedoms. You gotta understand that the US was formed in basically 20~30 years, a strong, unbreakable set of rules had to be formed in order to keep all these sovereign countries under the same law. For example, back when the US was only a few years old (after the revolution), states were making their own currencies, even declaring war on each other.
I don't really see the point in having a social relation with a teacher to begin with. It's your teacher, not your best friend. When I finish college to become a teacher, my Facebook will be made as private as possible and any students sending requests will be blocked. They're my students, not my friends.
I think you need to find a new career
"Professor X you must remove those students from your friends on facebook or you will be arrested." That is totally going to happen..
There's no way they should be allowed to enforce this.
They do this in a lot of places by the way. Including my area. It's for safety reasons, they dont want teachers having outside of school relations.
I have all of my tutors from college added, except one.
What, why is it named after someone who was molested 'decades ago', I doubt it was over a social networking site if it was 20+ years ago. At least I don't live in Missouri.
they used myspace back then stupid
That's kinda lame. I'm glad I'm not in Missouri then, since I'm already steam friends with one of my game design teachers. He's a pretty cool guy.
We had the same policy but as soon as everyone left you just added the teachers that you liked anyway. kinda funny seeing them drunk/on drugs in some of them
crap i live in missouri. oh well i'll just pretend this doesnt exist because i havent heard of it until now [editline]3rd August 2011[/editline] oh, what happens if your dad is a teacher?
I don't see any problem with this, I friended my english teacher on Facebook, and she's kinda hot.
We weren't allowed to friend our teachers either :|
Says your district, not the law. ...right?
maybe they just don't want the teachers to be cyberbu//ied?
ur a btich mrs johnson ur class sux
There's no way this is legal.

Perhaps it's a uniquely Australian thing, but my teachers have taken their class to the pub, and over to their house for drinks. They tend to be the far better educators.
There's no way they could enforce this.
FTFY
That seems a bit strange, I think you meant to say:
The Federal government usually don't realize that the states really are sovereign nations, all bound by the current (federal) interpretation of the constitution in vogue at the time.
Here in France the teachers have no problem to make contact with their students, be it for their education or recreational (like sports.) or just because they are friends. I have one of my teachers in my friends. Obviously not every teacher wants or does that. But I agree, you cannot enforce this without breaking into the private sphere of someone.
My school does this. You can't friend a current teacher until you're out of school. If they read your profile and you have anything horrible on it (drinking, smoking, anything against the law) they're obligated to tell the police since you're their student. There's too high of a risk now a days. -That's what my chemistry teacher told me. He also said, "You don't think I've seen student x and student y smoking after school or talking about drinking? As long as they don't tell me directly about it, I can't do anything about it." So our little school-in-a-school made a group on facebook that we joined where we ask questions about the homework; what's due; pictures of assignments; and our teacher is the admin.
Around where I am, teachers aren't allowed to have facebooks(security reasons). Don't ask me.
