or mass protest outside of Google's headquarters.
Well 4chan and a bunch of other sites managed to organise the scientology protests so I guess it's possible. EDIT: Wait, didn't Google take scientology's side in that? Fuck, they're one step ahead!
The fuck is Google doing? Well, it won't happen anyway. [editline]01:56AM[/editline]
Well 4chan and a bunch of other sites managed to organise the scientology protests so I guess it's possible.
Oh god please no, the last thing we need is a bunch of people in guy fawkes masks standing around google headquarters embarrassing everybody.
god, and all they started out as was a simple search engine
Scaremongering.
Oh god please no, the last thing we need is a bunch of people in guy fawkes masks standing around google headquarters embarrassing everybody.
Well I didn't really mean with the guy fawkes masks, I just meant in a way that proves that it could be possible to organist a protest :v:
This had better not spread to the UK :ohdear:
Internet DLCs
why is google able to decide something that involves the entire internet, isn't that a little dirty?
why is google able to decide something that involves the entire internet, isn't that a little dirty?
I think the FCC might be able to stop it legally
Bring it on. I, for one, welcome this.
Didn't Google confirm that they didn't meet Verizon at all?
Don't worry everyone There will be one thing we can do. MAKE OUR OWN ISP :science:

Fuck, they're one step ahead!
Well as much as I despise 4chan if anyone could organize a mass protest outside of Google's headquarters, they could. I just hope Obama remembers his promise and actually takes a stand against Google:
Fucking google. They ruin everything!!
Don't worry everyone There will be one thing we can do. MAKE OUR OWN ISP :science:
A Facepunch ISP with only the best websites.
I remember everyone insulting Steve Jobs for saying "Google's 'Don't be evil' mantra is bullshit". Turns out he was right.
Didn't Google confirm that they didn't meet Verizon at all?
http://googlepublicpolicy.blogspot.com/2010/08/joint-policy-proposal-for-open-internet.html They did meet with them.
Much better summary of the proposal. Huffington Post's article is basically just THE INTERNET IS DEAD OH MAN I really can't take Huffington Post seriously about this. A week ago they put up an article saying Google and Verizon wanted to end net neutrality completely and charge sites for better speeds. If they're putting up completely nonsensical shit like that and over reacting, how can I take them seriously this time? Here's the actual proposal. Not as scary as everyone says. The wireless internet bit definately sucks. However, they DO have a point when they say wireless internet is still developing. I think that once wireless internet gets bigger and more developed Google will try to fight for net neutrality on it.
What about AT&T, thats what I have.
Net neutrality isn't all its cracked up to be, and ultimately your not benefiting from having a "neutral" internet. THIS article really puts the whole issue in perspective
Nice explanation
Net neutrality isn't all its cracked up to be, and ultimately your not benefiting from having a "neutral" internet. THIS article really puts the whole issue in perspective
I read the whole thing.
America morally must recognize the rights of Internet service providers to manage their property as they see fit.
No, no they musn't. The internet is a beautiful thing; ok it's stupid and and times dangerous, but it's humanity. As soon as you make it so ISPs can profit off of the internet, you destroy that. Look at what happened to professional sports - from people enjoying a kick around and having people watch to a multi billion pound industry which prices the original fans out of the network and results in hideously over inflated wages. If you removed net neutrality, the people in charge of ISPs would become very wealthy people but at the cost of the internet. I'm sick of profiteering ruining things. I don't care if the ISPs think it's unfair that they don't get to control what runs through their "pipes" - for once, why don't we decide not to allow free for all capitalism ruin something nice?
I'm kinda skeptical of the Huff Post
So you have great plan to stop all this? And it doesn't involve violence or firebombing? Please share. edit: cue this in ten years
If things ended up like that couldn't you just be able to steal higher levels of service like people already do with cable?
I for one welcome our new google overlords...
Glenn Beck opposes net neutrality and he doesn't even know what it is.

THIS article really puts the whole issue in perspective
I've read just over half of this - will read the rest later. From what I've read so far, it seems like it's saying that the end (letting ISPs apparently give better services to the majority of its customers) justify the means (loss of net-neutrality) Also it seems to be written a bit biased. For instance when it mentions bit torrent, it says its used for things such as downloading movies. Then almost every time it mentions it after that, it specifically says movie downloads.
I for one welcome our new google overlords...
I usually agree with this. Not this time.
Ironic calling that website "the objective standard" when the article author is quite blatantly arguing a point based on his own personal views
You have no idea what the word "Objective" means.
Log no. 47 22:53, 14 November 2020 This worldwide civil guerrilla war shows no signs of stopping. Verizon continues to retain it's support from the government and google no longer have any power in the conflict. Just 3 days ago the government released a statement to the press stating that anybody found using our underground NeutraNet would face a five year jail sentence and a memory scan, jeapardising our whole operation. Since then security has gotten a whole lot more tight. Four squads were dispatched to the Verizon headquarters just yesterday. Communication ceased just 1 hour and 24 minutes after their departure. It seems Verizon are stepping it up too... 3 months into the conflict and no end is yet in sight. We all thought it would be over in days, weeks... We were wrong.
