The Facepunch Mars Rover
nobody has said the rest of mankind shouldn't feel proud
literally all that was said was that it was a huge day for the USA, which is absolutely 100% true
I agree, don't say what the butthurt is about
They were pulling ~233k right before they announced the landing being successful.
there were some peeps re-streaming it on twitch_tv as well. right after landing a search for "nasa" gave me at least 3 streams for curiosity probe
NASA's site is down. Do not refresh.
Why is its camera so bad? Or is this not the main camera or something? I'm sure having a tiny HD camera couldn't have been too difficult a feat to put in it right?
So many awkward hugs and handshakes.
I understand that, but this should be progress for the whole of humanity and not just the country of USA.
I don't recall contributing anything to this leave me alone :v:
goddamn threw a mars party tonight
fuck yeah we're on mars. fucking rovers man..
FUCK YHEAH! SCIENCE!.
I think they've all done a marvellous job, just incredible. I just hate patriotism pushed in my face - funded by them or not.
Hope to see some incredible images anyway.
oh shit, problems
Call it "TITS"
sure are a lot of jealous europeans in this thread
Nothing to do with jealousy, I just think it's stupid to claim that since your country (which, once again, is just a man made concept of territorial boundaries and culture.) was able to do this because of your economical capabilities and foundations, that "This is a great day for the American people." - No, you're wrong, this is a great day for humanity.
way to turn an amazing accomplishment into a country war
i swear to god fp
My Canadian friend doesn't like space I guess.

A lot of people don't care about or understand the implications of exploring space, especially when it comes to finding potential habitable planets. What a lot of people just don't get is this: The second we successfully establish a colony on a planet other than Earth, we have effectively guaranteed our survival as a species for...well, as long as we can push it.
if you noticed, one of the other scientists was just interviewed and said it was a huge success for mankind and for nasa, so there you go, everyone gets credit now

What are you talking about? Oh wait, they did this in 2003.
Euros be ~~~jelly~~~
But really guys, let us yanks gloat for a bit then you guys can shoot some shit into space!
Jesus christ, that peanut canister! It's huge!
I like how most sites I go to are Europeans trying their damndest to make Americans feel bad. Holy shit what a terrible place to be right now.
Oh come on let us gloat and shout and cheer for a minute. Damn. There will be plenty of time to gloat as a species.
give it time. the progress will trickle down to the rest of humanity... it is just a matter of time

They have a dust cover on right now and all cameras are still in a stored position
How do they expect me to sleep now?
How do they expect me to sleep now?
Damn, I know right? It should've crashed so that I could've cried myself to sleep...
if you noticed, one of the other scientists was just interviewed and said it was a huge success for mankind and for nasa, so there you go, everyone gets credit now
I like him.
I understand that, but this should be progress for the whole of humanity and not just the country of USA.
but we weren't talking about them, we were talking about how the US,NASA, and JPL did all the work and its their achievement
How do they expect me to sleep now?
I had no plans to sleep to begin with.

It is not possible to send such a large image in the small window after landing where there will be one of 2 satellites overhead to transmit them. That is why the images are small at first to ensure at least one makes it through. After Curiosity landed it had about 5 minutes to send a few photos. In the coming days we will have much better images.
