Time to start feeling old: It's 10 year anniversary of steam version of Garry's Mod

can't believe garry is 10 years old. imagine making a game this big as a kid? he looks very mature for his age too
Most of the servers with the unique gamemodes were killed when Garry made new server browser. It practically made impossible to find server if it's not hosting sandbox/ttt/darkrp.
Didn't Garry make a thread a while back asking about a Gmod 2 and said that Valve wasn't licensing out Source 2?
I think it is confirmed that they are on early stages of working on a successor and they are not limiting themselves to Source 2.
Maybe, I did not read most of that thread. Personally I think they might use UE4 since quite a few people at FP (including Garry) are playing with it.
Are there any active server communites still? Good ones?
Gmod v8.3b was the best. A true classic.
I first played Gmod 9 in late 2006. I threw thousands of hours into Gmod, thanks Garry.
10 years of garrysmod, i can i still remember the day it came out and i was excited to play after i started playing the mod since february 2005. i Still play it occasionally but not as much as i used to.
I really hope there is an update to gmod moving it to the new source engine when it comes out
This takes me back, I remember screwing around on Facewan's RP server on Gmod 9 before I was able to buy Gmod 10. If only the god awful server list could have been replaced with something else.
Hahaha, holy shit. Has it really been 10 years?
Good fucking times, man. I actually met some of the best friends I've ever had on Gmod, when I was just a kid.
Ten years later, still being stupid together.
4 years ago I just moved into this apartment and was still playing Gmod quite a bit, crazy stuff.
i remember first getting gmod back in 2007 or 2008. so many summers wasted playing this and sa-mp.
sa-mp.
Crazybob's was nuts.
Before your ingame name was determined by your steam friends name, Gmod had a box for that. Garry, being garry, decided the best default would be Minge Bag. It became attached to bad players and noobs because they would fail to change it, indeed many admin mods would autokick with specialized messages when such a player joined a server.
The bad players also attached the term to trolls and griefers.
Yeah but where does the term come from in the first place? Every time I googled it out of curiosity back in the day literally every result was a variation of "slang for a new, inexperienced player of gmod".
I remember figuring out how to install addons for the first time. I even hosted my own little build server that somehow attracted regulars.
It was a great experience.
Hot fucking damn, I was 13
Coming back to think of it Gmod got me interested in PCs, leading me to build my first and upgrading from there onwards.
Now I'm in my final year of Computer Science course of college. Wow.
I miss the old days of FortWars

I think Garry has probably strung together Minge and Bag as the name, and iirc Minge is brit slang for Cunt. So basically it would mean "CuntBag" :v:
I still miss Lord Gollum's Gmod Nation server.
All these comments about how great GMOD 9 was back in the day, made me wish if only I had known about it earlier. I bought it in 2010,but it's still great to see it still going strong after 10 years and over 10 million copies.
Fuck I've been here for too long
My favorite memory is playing some game mode that had pretty cool classes, fort building, and an opening song when you joined the server that screamed 'horse dick'.

Ah jeez. What a trip.
Ooo, Ooo, Member when you were boo'ed out of screenshots/movies if your pose didn't have at least an hour of photoshop on it? 'Member thousands of pictures of CTs standing around de_dust with lazy SHEF edits over the top? Member the circlejerk comics section? Member the music section? Member when OIFY was ironically cool?
Gonna take a lot to drag me awaaaaaaay from yoooouuuu

Sounds a lot like nox teamplay :v:
oh man, the insane number of hours i spent playing spacebuild at sub-20 fps at 800x600
Whatever happened to Spacebuild, anyway? Did people simply just stop working on it?
I'd love to see it get revived somehow. Even if it's just for a short time.
sb_gooniverse amirite
I miss gmod survival tbh, I remember playing on one map that had a giant cat billboard hidden behind the hills that played Amaranth by Nightwish :v:
I just got back into it yesterday. Got a little private dedicated to fuck around with my friends in.
I don't think about it much, but garrysmod used to have a large impact on all things gaming for me. I believe before I played some 3rd party Lego building game called Return To Blockland, and I loved building forts and bases there. Looking on Youtube for those kinds of videos I saw garrysmod 9 fortbuilding videos in the related section and was gone ever since.
It was actually technically garrysmod that got me into Half Life. Having to look up this other mysterious game that was required to play it.
Are there any active server communites still? Good ones?
The game is still as popular as it's ever been.
Christ I feel old now.

Started playing Gmod back in the days of v7a
If this a joke, not funny. If it's not a joke, Gmod is ruined. It was fun because it was free, I will never pay $10 for a sandbox game. No matter what new stuff you put in there.
