That looks suspiciously like RP_hometown1999. Good times.
It's already been 10 years of the steam version?
Jesus fucking christ time flies by fast.
I can't even fathom I've been on this forum since I was twelve...
I still remember playing the very very very early versions of GMOD and having tons of fun with it.
I've never seen this many '05 and '06ers in one place.

You think that's bad? Come January I will have been a member of this forum for half my life and I've already hit that mark on Steam.

I don't actually know the exact date I joined FP and it's too late for me to be doing math right anyway so I say January because it's after December.

I got gmod in 2009. It's weird to think how so much of the game has changed. I remember when the game mode contest happened, and people were all on that one service that allowed people to try them all (I still never got to try out the dogfight one, people liked the laser tag one more when I played on those servers). I remember when the video player addon was first made, and theater mode was a fad game mode with mods and other shit like the Sakurias old helicopter mod. I even remember the fake Gmod tower server that teleported you to a pit of goatse, and didn't allow you to leave via the menu, so you had to use console commands to bail out.
I miss habeeb rp tho.
i'm desperately trying to find my old youtube channel from when i was 14-16.
it had some super cringey shit on it including a gmod video about mario shooting himself. if anyone can find the video i'd appreciate it greatly. i think he reads a newpaper that says "we hate mario" then he says "mama mia" and shoots himself.
Wow, its been a long time since gmod started up. I still remember the first time I started it up and joined a server not even knowing what the chat key was.
The first place I learned about this was on TechTV. Times have changed.
huge thanks to team garry for changing my childhood
This whole GMod 10 thing on Steam is going to flop. Who the fuck is going to pay for it when they have a free version?
garry is going broke.
Man the time sure flies.
Got Gmod10 the day it came out. Joined the forums first year of high school. Now I'm 4 months away from finishing medical school. Thanks for all the good memories guys and gals.
have i really been programming that long
You just write code until it happens.
Garry sold out. Did anyone actually pay the $10 for this? Gmod 9 still runs fine for me.
Good god this makes me feel old.
I remember how I got here.
It was this fort video:

Though it had Bob Marley in the background when I first found it, so here's a mashup of that: http://vmashup.com/2QLS8VZF
I was immediately charmed, and ended up finding a Counter Strike Source CD in a store, and messing with GMod 9 for a couple of weeks (hope that one guy with whom i spent a few hours building cars is doing well) until I could figure out how my underage self could pay for a game on Steam.
Then I finally got GMod [del]10[/del], and from getting my ass kicked by smartness when making my first Facepunch post asking for a hedgehog model (almost 9 years later you never delivered, by the way) to spending hours spamming emotes on a certain zombie survival server, literal thousands of hours of fun were had.
But thinking about all the people I've met, and the path my life ended up taking thanks to them, and it all happening because my 2007 self by pure chance ended up looking at that YouTube video, is insane.
Haven't touched Gmod I think since the very first iterations, 2005-2006, and had already stopped by the time it became available on Steam.
I post maybe once every 1-2 years, yet Facepunch forums are a very important place for me in terms of news and random content. If it wasn't for Gmod Facepunch wouldn't have grown to what it is today.
Will continue lurking for years to come :)
Fucking incredible.
I remember buying the War of the Servers dvd waaay back. But I lost it during a move (I think). Is it still accessible online?

Its on youtube
The early days of LUA in Garry's Mod are some of my fondest moments. Melon Racing and Barrel Mania(Which was just prop hunt, but with explosive barrels. One wrong guess and the whole map lights up).
Haven't played in a while because it seems like servers have consolidated into one or two gamemodes, but I'm excited for whatever successor comes next.
I still remember when I thought LUA was THE shit.
My biggest memory was when GMod theater shut down on the GM12 update, I re wrote the entire gamemode (it was poorly coded and missed luxury features but eh it worked, for 2 days work it was pretty good) and managed to fill 2 128 slot servers... Until we got DDoS'd of the face of the planet by a competing server.
Fretta was also another baby of mine, I made loads of custom games for it. When the support got dropped It took ages to re code parts of it as the base broke with it.
My GMod times sort of ended after GM12 purely because so much got changed
I don't get why people liked hanging out in the toilets on GMT tho..

I've been here barely 5 months and I have more posts than you.
... I can't tell if there is something wrong with ME or if there is something wrong with YOU.
Y'know I think the first time I heard of Garry's Mod was probably from this classic gem:

After seeing all the insane shit that happened, adolescent me was hooked.
I still remember JBMod users shitting on Gmod on the Steam forums. Good times, surprising it's been this long since it got on Steam, though.
