I've been here barely 5 months and I have more posts than you. ... I can't tell if there is something wrong with ME or if there is something wrong with YOU.
There is something wrong with everyone on this forum.
Y'know I think the first time I heard of Garry's Mod was probably from this classic gem: After seeing all the insane shit that happened, adolescent me was hooked.
My favorite Garry's Mod video! Got me hooked as well.
I've been here barely 5 months and I have more posts than you. ... I can't tell if there is something wrong with ME or if there is something wrong with YOU.
There was a major restructuring of the forums a few years back and a lot of old posts ended up deleted. Everyone's post count went down because of it. I had like, 4 or 5 thousand posts before that.
Too bad there's just not that many unique game modes as there used to be nowadays it's simply better for both consumer and creator to make it an actual game. I blame the sever browser so much.
I remember how I got here. It was this fort video: Though it had Bob Marley in the background when I first found it, so here's a mashup of that: http://vmashup.com/2QLS8VZF I was immediately charmed, and ended up finding a Counter Strike Source CD in a store, and messing with GMod 9 for a couple of weeks (hope that one guy with whom i spent a few hours building cars is doing well) until I could figure out how my underage self could pay for a game on Steam. Then I finally got GMod [del]10[/del], and from getting my ass kicked by smartness when making my first Facepunch post asking for a hedgehog model (almost 9 years later you never delivered, by the way) to spending hours spamming emotes on a certain zombie survival server, literal thousands of hours of fun were had. But thinking about all the people I've met, and the path my life ended up taking thanks to them, and it all happening because my 2007 self by pure chance ended up looking at that YouTube video, is insane.
hell yea, forts was the best thing to do in gmod
I remember the first time I heard about garrysmod I thought Garry was some cool hipster that makes his own rules. He don't need no rules. Those were good days. I believe bananaphone was my first video that I saw from it. It made me buy orange box and the rest was history.
Gmod v8.3b was the best. A true classic.
8.3b master race back in 2006 robot battle with cargo containers for bodies and pillars for arms
started playing when I was 8 [editline]1st December 2016[/editline] now i'm 18, what the fuck have you done to me
10 years of steam gmod and 10 years on facepunch. Yeesh.
Oh man, I remember the old days. I was permabanned for making such a completely shit post about wanting star wars models for gmod 9. Then I forgot about that account until a few years later. I'm an 08'er by heart but then I'd loose my glod so I sacrificed that account for this one. Ripperoni.
Garrysmod got me my first job in the games industry. Garrysmod let me co-create and help lead the SpaceBuild ModelPack (later the Spacebuild Enhancement Project). Garrysmod got me more into programming through Wiremod. Edit: Hell, Garrysmod helped get the first game project I was attached to onto Steam. I owe a lot to this little game and this community. Man, what a wave of nostalgia this thread's been. I'm glad I made that dumb first post at school about that game-mode way back when, with my suggestions for how to make it better and stuff.
And don't forget the greatest, most iconic serie of gmod, a classic, the one first thing i saw about garrymod back then : GMOD IDIOT BOX But then he suddenly diseappeared.. not giving news.. https://twitter.com/dasbotwitt His final message may be a hint about what killed him. ((((kikongo, you feel it too??)))) I'm sad because i REALLY enjoyed his new Gmod idiot box and serie, I FUCKING LOVE Youtube Ave. too bad it's not continuing :(! You can see the evolution of his video in his channel and that is really good. Youtube Ave. man.. I wish he came back. But now, i am waiting for one thing. Garry's mod 2. New, fresh start, new clean engine with better animation support, better modding support, better darkRP and gamemode possibility, BETTER AND BIGGER MAPPING POSSIBILITY.
These threads seem to come up fairly often for different games and it's never easy to think about. Garrysmod was literally my entry point to PC Gaming, and to every community, friendship and experience I've had around it since then. Thank you, Garry, and thank you, Facepunch. I feel quite alot of brotherly love towards all of you when thinking about these things. I may not remember specifically who I played with, on who's server, or who I griefed, but I know that it may very well have been the guy right above or below this post. Thank you for all of it. edit: 113 posts? Wow, I forgot alot of them had been deleted like 5 years ago. Why did that happen again? Are they archived at all? Custom forums... geez.
oh yea the 1.5 hour movie war of the servers [link already posted in this thread] *feels*
I remember coming here on my brother's account back in 2005. It made sense, as I was also playing the game on his steam account :what:
I remember becoming a second class moderator on a mildly popular sandbox server in the gmod 9 days, That was the height of my exsistance.
this is when all the 06ers and 07ers resurface to the form
Wat up. I joined after April Fools day for some reason. Must have been fooled in to playing the Garry's Mod. I miss playing with nukes and holding NPC wars. I doubt I ever accumulated 1,000 hours, but definitely in the 100s. I always seem to jump around games. I remember how foreign it felt to see posters on here back in the day that didn't join directly because of Gmod. It didn't make much sense to me. Yet look at Facepunch now. Hell, I haven't even spent more than a few hours playing in the past few years. Can never replay the Half-Life series enough though apparently. I think it's about time I get back in to it a little.

WHAT THE FUCK I THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE 2010 AT THE VERY LEAST HOLY FUCK
I miss zombie survival 1.11 and countless times we had +30 people in a bathroom, that one Prop Hunt server full of people and that DarkRP servers that had zombie npcs and you could farm them for money and I became mayor by accident and got murdered when i walked into someone's house demanding tax. And how I met one of my best friends that I'm touch with to this day. My 12yr old self sure had some good times Thanks Garry

Jesus the people who did all those mods i barely remember from gmod 9 probably have jobs and kids by now
When i started playing GMod, G4TV was still good (and still on the air).

He wasn't much of an asshole, but he made the episodes with a lot of dickheads.

GMod nostalgia thread? Played it since version 8. Managed a community that hosted a Zombie Survival variant and several of my own gamemodes over the years. Scripting in GMod taught me a lot about how 3D multiplayer game engines work. GMod created a community of both players and creators. I kinda miss that nowadays.
4,862 hrs on record I regret nothing.
Sorry for the bump folks, it took me forever to find this. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/bNcLMV3.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/seFrMz7.jpg[/img_thumb]
Lotta old names in this thread. Anyone remember that guy who made the ungodly huge machines that ran at like 3 fps? They were totally useless
