This article makes me sad :frown:
I just assumed that an 896mb GTX 260 would be more powerful than a 768mb 8800GTX. It's exactly this kind of misleading shit that the article's on about.
actually according to the article you should assume the 8800GTX is more powerful though in all actuality the difference should be marginal
I played Call of Pripyat earlier this year on max everything and was like "Wow, this is the good graphics I've been missing out on?"
I'm quite alright with this, But As I do say, Consoles hold PC's back, That's true but as shown can be a good thing, But it's really 50/50, One side I enjoy buy One side I hate.
My 4870 sounds like a jet turbine after all the use and I bet I will still be running games on max for the next 2 years with it.
My 4870 peaks at like 70-72c and I can't usually hear it.
I really only play PC games because of modding applications. Plus, most PC have free online, not the shitty MMORPGs either. If consoles ever allow to modify files, or make your own stuff and use it with your favorite FPS game, than sure, I'd get a console.
That would make ... it a PC, making the console obsolete altogether. [editline]1st December 2010[/editline]
My 4870 peaks at like 70-72c and I can't usually hear it.
My 5870 never goes above 60 celsius :smug: It does sound like a jet engine if i push it too far though :v:
"So don’t give that ‘wot about Crysis 2 hurr’ claptrap, bucko."
... Whatchutalkinbout, Willis? Seriously, what the fuck did he just say?
... Whatchutalkinbout, Willis? Seriously, what the fuck did he just say?
"I'm an ignorant moron who doesn't understand how Crytek port their games"
I've got a 9800 GT, and am still loving it now :buddy:
Mine ran out of warranty, and died a day later. It was a good card and will be remembered well. I'm happy my new gtx460 though.
I have a Pentium D 915 at 3.7ghz and a GT220.. I need a new motherboard, case, and ram, before I can even upgrade my CPU. [editline]1st December 2010[/editline] I don't like getting 1 fps on SC2 when there's a lot of shit going on.
Another 300-600 $ for the next console, while PC the same as it is. Just few upgrades here and there, not a completely new built for the next gen. :v: That the downfall from consoles, they'll just keep making more bullshit up.
I bet to upgrade your pc will cost you 300-600$ too depending on how many of your parts are outdated.
Mine ran out of warranty, and died a day later. It was a good card and will be remembered well. I'm happy my new gtx460 though.
Holy shit the same exact thing happened to me. Same card and purchased a gtx460 too.
This article is completely right. I bought my 8800 GTS a few years back and I'm still happy with it. Sure, there's a few games that come out now that I can't run on maxed out settings, but I still have enough power to play games with the graphics not looking like shit. Maybe in a year's time I might upgrade again, but I barely find myself playing games anywhere as much as I did back during high school. Great read. Good job RPS.
My PC has a HD5770 which didn't cost all that much for what it puts out. ($160 to play sc2 with ultra graphics at 1080p) What would really make pc gaming evolve again, in my opinion, is if more mid range GPUs came out (like mine even though its recent) and upgrades necessary to make your pc good at gaming were more obvious. Just about any game will tell you what stats are required and recommended but there should be a 3rd one telling you what set up to use with high settings would be.
I mostly play indie games nowadays anyway.
It's nice to see RPS maturing and growing into a renowned blog. I personally know how hard it is to start a website that is successful. I personally visit this blog every day, just because their articles are not full of biased opinions. And of course, they are not afraid to express their opinion.
The PC isn't going to die. If anything, the consoles are going to die.
The PC isn't going to die. If anything, the consoles are going to die.
neither is going to die for it's own reasons.
The PC isn't going to die. If anything, the consoles are going to die.
PC can't die, games are made on it...
This article is pretty interesting. I haven't upgraded my PC for nearly 3 years because it was absolutely top of the line back then. Save for a new GPU (460GTX due to my 9800GX2 dying)
And the GeForce 8600 GT aswell.
Bullshit, I have two 8600s and they can't run any new games.
I bought a new PC 10 days ago. Believe me - that journey of looking for new parts was just pain in the asshole. Is that CPU going to bottleneck GPU or other way around? Is that HDD going to survive for more than half of a year? Is that mob really that good? Should I care about SLI? Why nvidia, maybe radeon this time? Right now that shitty e-shop refuses to send all that stuff, telling me that there is no case, or gpu, or everything. I think that instead of next-get gaming i'll just tell them to fuck off, force to give my money back and play on gts8600 and amd athlon +6400. I don't feel like doing all this shit again only to get a PC that will be decent for 3, max 4 months.
I've had my desktop PC for well over 2 years now. With the proper maintenance (and right now an optional single £120 investment) I'm good to go for another 2. I have no idea what you're talking about.
Haven't updated my computer in almost a year, but that was because my previous version lasted about...oh, I don't know, 5 years?
1-2 years without upgrading doesn't mean anything. That's a very short period
1-2 years without upgrading doesn't mean anything. That's a very short period
Used to be a new generation of graphics cards every 6 months a couple years ago though...

I have a 260 GTX that I've owned for 6 months and it still runs on max settings.
