most torrented........... yet it makes $3 billion
"piracy make movie companies lose millions every year" - bullshit
just means that people wouldn't want to pay for an overrated movie
I, personally, don't want to see it at all.
Judging by the last line of your post, you haven't seen it yet you call it overrated. How about making your own opinion and thinking for yourself?
I watched that movie like 2 times on mega-video and saw it in theaters when it came out, still bought it on blu-ray when it was available.
I haven't torrented this.
I haven't seen it at all
and I don't plan on watching it either.
That doesn't mean its any good.
It was actually pretty good. I didn't read in to it or give in to hype. But i was extremely pleased with the visuals, the story was pretty good too.
It's a movie by James Cameron so you're not going to be let down, when it comes to movies he makes they're top notch. The movie didn't make me want to go be a blue person but i did enjoy it.

Aye. I never got to see it in theaters, but watching it on Megavideo just reinforced my determination to get it on Blu-Ray.

Just because it makes $3 Billion doesn't mean that it couldn't have made $6 Billion without pirates.
The 3D and the badass colonel was the only highlights in Avatar.
Another interesting observation is that a relatively high percentage of downloads in the first few days came from the UK and Australia.
Australia and UK p2p users... watch out :cop:
My theory:
"Statistics" on money lost to piracy are based on completely unverifiable data and baseless assumptions.
My theory:
Profit that was never gonna be made isn't lost profit.
If a person pirates a movie it's because they don't have the money, don't think it deserves to be paid for or wanna try before they buy, meaning that:
A. If they don't have the money and watch it, they might like it and buy it later or they might not.
B. If they weren't planning on buying it, they won't.
C. If they were planning on buying it and they liked it, they most likely will buy it.
tl;dr - If they weren't gonna buy it anyways, there's nothing to lose.
Downloading it in shitty compressed mepg format completely defeats the purpose of the movie. I know I'll be buying it on Blu-ray when it comes out.
Piracy is like lending the film to people, only on a bigger scale. The whole "WE'RE LOSING MONEEEEEEY" thing is bullshit, only about 10% of the people who pirate a film would actually go out and buy it if they couldn't pirate it. Some people pirate films so they can see if the film is worth buying.
In the end it's just movie producers being dumbasses.
I enjoyed it, it certainly wasn't bad.
Indeed. Not a bad movie, just a bit too simple with the generalizations and predictable plot and whatnot.
that sounds pretty dumb.
Apples and Oranges, no opinion is objective, every has an opinion.
You know, the usual.

I didn't want to see this movie at all either, I successfully avoided having to go see it in theaters, and after watching at home a few days ago, I'm disappointed that I didn't go and see it before. I thought it would be this "look at my effects please let it distract you from our crap story" kind of movie, and I was wrong.
doesn't mean it's any good.
goddamn that was a terrible film.
For once, I'd like to see a scifi-movie with only fucking badass spacebattles, like Battlestar Galactica, but without all the fucking lame drama.

Somebody needs to take this advice. Battlestar Galactica had some of the coolest space battles in recent memory, but you have to sit through hours and hours of shitty drama and handheld camera zooms to get to any of it.
That doesn't mean its any good.
Hey, don't be hating on the movie due to the Fan Dumb. The movie was actually pretty good.
WTF?! http://www.learnnavi.org/
Fun fact: Most pirated quite often is also most bought one.
See avatar and mw2.
But if it's pirated more than bought, it's shit, see spore.
Piratebay - soon to be the most disappointed community ever
Just because it makes $3 Billion doesn't mean that it couldn't have made $6 Billion without pirates.
Durp. It doesn't mean that at all.
The 3D and the badass colonel was the only highlights in Avatar.
The colonel made up for all the hippy environmental crap.
Can't say I'm surprised. Anything that sells well usually is also pirated well.
It was a good movie. It wasn't AMAZING, but it was definitely one of the better movies of 2009.
I honestly didn't think it was any good after all of the special effects, and those do NOT make a movie.
I figured it would be. Half of the people in my dorm hall had a HD cam version after it came out in theaters.
Still haven't seen it.
