I wonder if it will export a vmf so you can edit it in hammer, for smaller details and stuff you can't do with the in game editor
If it's anything like the Alien Swarm editor then yes.
in fact it may be the first level editor on consoles
That was basically just slapping a tileset together though. (although even Elder Scrolls games since Daggerfall have basically done this)
Pariah had a map editor too, that actually let you edit terrain. (too bad the game sucked)

Make minesweeper!
Glad it won't be hammer based, I always get good ideas for maps but have no way of utilising that idea due to the barrier to entry.
Honestly, hammer isn't that hard. It's time consuming, but that is all. The hardest part is part is making displacements because you have the ability to fuck up the whole map, just like carving.

It ain't science if you don't add a couple crushers in the mix.
I want Glados to occasionally come in make "positive" remarks to the player's "awe inspiring" level while they're making it.
It should be like this:
as long as you can rotate it in a 3d space then i'm cool
should also be interesting on consoles

Sorry, but the Xbox version of this game had a full map editor in it.

Monotonous as fuck.
You can get the same room done faster in Hammer.

Far Cry Instincts was the shit for its map editor. My only complaint was that the terrain editor only supported changes in elevation, couldn't make caves.

I made caves out of boulders.

And they always looked terrible.

I loved that game so much. I made so many good (or at least my friends thought so) maps. And you could just choose a server, and download a map so easily for a console. I remember that blew my mind back then. I always wanted a game with a map editor up to par with Far Cry Instincts/Evolution.
I've always loved level editors. It would always be my favorite thing in a game.
Hopefully I can do something creative with this.
I love the fact that they're making something for those of us who don't really have knowledge of Hammer and such. My only issue is that if they have a browser for custom content, it'll be filled with a lot of garbage like LBP. There'll be great stuff, but a lot of garbage in-between.
If i can combine this or tweak level created with this or somehow edit my levels with hammer, this'll be the tool of the year.
I do expect a ton of shit maps, and maybe some of those cool "self-playing" maps you see on games like mario.
About damn time.
Seriously, after the release of Halo 3 (with the forge mode) I was thinking that more and more first person games would go for simplistic in-game editors. Barely any have had such a feature, yet it'd be awesome for many games.
Please Valve, don't dumb this down too much. And if you do, please make an advanced mode, while still being simpler than Hammer. This would suck so bad if you were only able to add stuff like buttons and hard-light bridges to an already made map. It probably wont be like that, but if it is, its gonna suck.

I hope it allows PS3 + PC players to play maps built by either console on the same console, if valve does that my love increases

They did talk a while ago about getting custom content on the PS3.
Advanced chambers, dammit!
