people shouldn't have to pay a 25% markup for any product because of the government.
I dunno, a 25% markup on cell phones if the idiot has a history of using his phone while driving would probably work
And half of them will look like hobos.
people shouldn't have to pay a 25% markup for any product because of the government.
In the US, about 50% of the money paid for cigarettes is taxes
I dunno, a 25% markup on cell phones if the idiot has a history of using his phone while driving would probably work
i don't really see how that comparison works...
In the US, about 50% of the money paid for cigarettes is taxes
source? i did some research for a paper a few months back and state laws vary so much that i had a hard time finding what the average tax rate for cigs was.
the only marijuana that would be legal to sell in this state would be grown by specially-licensed Washington farmers and sold in standalone, marijuana-only stores operated by private Washington businesses licensed and regulated by the state
Hooray for corporatism.
Hooray for corporatism.
That law itself is pretty stupid. However, I am all for giving our federal government the middle finger.
That law itself is pretty stupid. However, I am all for giving our federal government the middle finger.
Might be harder to undo that damage once the law is passed. Who knows how little we can change the tax and regulation on it once there's laws for it?
Yesterday was the first time I ever saw a pro-legalization commercial on television.
Yesterday was the first time I ever saw a pro-legalization commercial on television.
I've been seeing these for weeks.
Hooray for corporatism.
You guys complain about Cartels and Gangs controlling the drug trade, and you complain that if it were Legal then Corporations would control it? What did you expect?
They would make a banner out of hemp with a slogan written on it, but it would probably fall apart.
i'm sorry but do you know anything about hemp?
You guys complain about Cartels and Gangs controlling the drug trade, and you complain that if it were Legal then Corporations would control it? What did you expect?
Cartels and gangs regulate who gets to do business, by controlling the territory they own. The state is doing the same thing with ridiculous mark-ups and extensive licensing. This is thanks to sheer amount of moralist dumbasses in the government, people like holycrusade (if he's not trolling). They should legalize it and be done with it. No arbitrary taxes, no few, licensed growers. Just let it become a fucking commodity like any other.
did you guys know Rick Steves talks at hemp fest
Might be harder to undo that damage once the law is passed. Who knows how little we can change the tax and regulation on it once there's laws for it?
I'd wager it's as simple as passing an initiative that changes it. iirc the one we had that would allow regular grocery stores to sell hard liquor passed, when before it was all state owned liquor stores
Cookout is were everyone goes here, because of this menu item right here... (well except I am not in richmond) "You know what would go good with a double burger? A bacon wrap and a chicken quesadilla."
So cheap compared to food in the uk..
So cheap compared to food in the uk..
We can thank food subsidies and an industrialized agriculture system. Bad for our health good on our wallet.
i'm sorry but do you know anything about hemp?
Yes, that its a natural material once used for making a variety of things, now superseded by superior materials.
Reporting in back from hempfest. Hard to see in the picture but there was a thick cloud of smoke right at 4:20.
They would make a banner out of hemp with a slogan written on it, but it would probably fall apart.
I think you're forgetting that hemp is stronger than normal paper. [editline]18th August 2012[/editline]
Or they would smoke it before the rally actually happened.
You don't smoke hemp.
Yesterday was the first time I ever saw a pro-legalization commercial on television.
She claims not to smoke it, but I bet she smokes the gnarliest fucking weed known to man.

Besides you're not gonna get an overnight weed utopia, it's just not gonna happen.
It's still illegal, so technically it would be "Crime-rate skyrockets"
as far as i know pretty much nothing happened in Vancouver when they had their big pro pot day that had a few thousand people come in
I think you're forgetting that hemp is stronger than normal paper.
It's horribly expensive however. It's more economical to make paper from wood pulp.
Welcome to Sweden
Why did I find out about my country's VAT increasing not through the papers but through Wikipedia? Oh well, nice birthday present though. On the day I turn 21, VAT goes up to 21%.

It should be regulated like food.
Generally, I'm against legalising weed, but I can't argue against this proposal.

Besides you're not gonna get an overnight weed utopia, it's just not gonna happen.
Except marijuana is a naturally occurring plant that requires almost no processing to use. It's like putting a 25% tax on a tomato. It's stupid and immoral.
what happens when gangs undercut legal sales with cheaper, more dangerous products (because any legalised drug system would require stringent quality control (i.e. no bleach in the meth) which costs more)? addicted junkies will buy that instead; result: gangs continue on drug profits!
You don't undercut with a crappier, less safe product. A gang does not compete with real, legal capital because it has far too many costs and safety issues to do so (companies don't have to control 'turf', buy large amounts of guns and ammo, etc), and it can't produce on a scale a company can. Quality control for marijuana is easy since creating it isn't a labor process that can be fucked up/tinkered with like meth is, and growing it correctly is not difficult either. Marijuana does not create 'addictive junkies' for gangs to continue to use, and if it did they'd be buying it in stores, where it's cheaper and safer.
