Though I'm sure the rule 34 MLP stuff is part of the problem, the bigger issue at hand is that MLP is a TV show, not the word of god, but it's treated like the best thing to ever happen to the internet by many MLP people.
I'm not sure if you were around or really watching it, but FP and many other places on the internet got besieged by armies of "bronies" (we called them "ponyfags" but not going to argue semantics) who posted their shit everywhere. I mean I'm sure the show is decent but like many things, people blow it up into something much bigger than it ever should have been. To make a comparison and aid others in understanding this: I doubt the Modern Warfare series would recieve as much hate as it does if there weren't people all over the internet claiming it is the greatest series ever. Regardless of how good or bad you think it is, everyone must admit that the love and hate of MW has gone far beyond its actual value. The same can be said of MLP: probably not even a bad show, but some people took it too far and as the pendulum swung one way, it must now swing the other.

The anti furry thing was more because they all got labeled hypersexual zoophile rapists. The anti mlp is because it's a bad children's cartoon that has effectively taken over most of the internet and yes people are getting hurt by it (non-consensually).
