Windows 10 Anniversary Update stops Pro users from disabling annoying features and blocking ads

Try to use alternatives when you can, you might find that for certain tasks they work out much better or just as well. It's a little circle, "I won't use this, there is no support for it" "why would I develop for this? noone is using it."
Hopefully one day Microsoft releases Windows 10 that has option to remove everything you want without them ever again coming back like ya kno.. any other previous Windows. No editing in Regedit and shi- Just switch it off and done.
Windows server is something a few neckbeards use if you got dosh. The GUI edition is basically the latest version of Windows without the shit and other server benefits. The only problem is assholes make software that will refuse to run if it detects you're running Windows server, e.g., my NVIDIA drivers.
If MS has proven anything about themselves with Win10, it's that, at least at some level, they're listening to users and making changes based on what they hear. I'm sure some little marketing major with experience in OS design has a hand in this move, and I'm sure that enough people complaining about it will at least make MS consider changing things around. They in all likelihood have a long-term roadmap about how to actually monetize Win10 after having given it away to so many, so there's going to have to be a compromise somewhere on the user's part.
I don't think they really need to do weird ways to monetize it. MS makes most of their money from enterprise, and the reason for the forced and free upgrades is to make sure everybody is on the latest platform, rather than what happened with 8 where consumers rejected it and just didn't upgrade. Windows also still costs money for new licenses.
I'm most frustrated about Cortana being forced - Cortana's search for local files is significantly slower than the standard search.
Good thing I'm a stubborn asshole and stuck with 7.
Unfortunately, in the Anniversary Update Microsoft has restricted what policies are available to Windows 10 Professional users, and blocked the corresponding registry keys so you can’t make the changes that way either.
do they have evidence of this being a thing or are they just fear mongering for the views?
though didn't MS themselves say cortana was "just a fucking thing now lol"
that's absolutely retarded really, I have 0 use for it and bing sucks ass
Seems a bit strange
I've been backlogging a few of the sources from this attack article back to a more fundamental Winaero blog article http://winaero.com/blog/microsoft-locks-some-group-policy-options-to-enterprise-editions-in-windows-10-anniversary-update/
One of the listed changes is to 'Tips and Tricks'
However, this remains a setting for all users
[t]http://jesusfuck.me/di/1HLI/16-07-30-01-26-11-settings.png[/t]
but I have been able to verify some of these accuracies down into the policy editor

I wouldn't say there's any "best" distros out there, it's mostly personal preference. at the core, all linux distros are the same.

Linux distros
swap out your bibs and bobs for other bits and bobs
I wonder if this compliments the Theseus' paradox
if you take all the fundemental parts out of debain for example and replace them etc.
Is it still debian?

this question is even worse than "what are we". what makes us us? and more importantly, what makes debian debian? does it have a soul?
whats the best way to prevent my 8.1 from trying to force update to windows 10? Ive gotten so paranoid about ths recently.
Upgrade and then go back. I did that once and I didn't get a single pop-up about Windows 10 since. No clue how that works technically though, or what the reason for my experience was.
this question is even worse than "what are we". what makes us us? and more importantly, what makes debian debian? does it have a soul?
I tried to answer the question, then I realised it's a called a paradox under a good measure...
I have a computer on windows 10 pro and a laptop with windows 10 pro in the fast ring release of insider builds. I bever saw an ad, and i didnt do anything outside changing privacy settings in the settings app (nothing wonky with the registry or stuff). I never saw an ad. Can someone post a picture of what they look like?
I never suggested otherwise? The point was that we shouldn't be nannying people who are computer illiterate. It's not difficult to teach people not to fuck with things unless they know what they're doing. Especially if the stuff that they shouldn't be messing with is hidden by an option that gives an unmissable warning stating they'll mess their computer up if they mess with it.
IF YOU ENABLE THIS OPTION YOU'LL MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER.
CONTINUE CANCEL

ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO CONTINUE? YOU'LL REALLY MESS THINGS UP!
NO YES
Or something similar to that would be enough really. It doesn't really take that much to lock things up in a way that there's a clear warning but still allows power users to make use of this stuff. And if they miss that warning because they can't be assed reading a single sentence then it's really their own fault for fucking things up, no?
Make something idiot-proof and it'dd just spawn a even bigger idiot.
I'd rather have software downright scorned users when they were idiots instead.
"YOU FUCKING IDIOT!! YOU CLICKED A MALWARE LINK!" would be glorious to hear instead of this bubblewrapping.
Will this shitty 'update' at least make it possible to change the colour of the FUCKING INVISIBLE scroll bar?
Haha, I was finally going to make the change from 7. Sorry fuckers, not doing it now.

What you're referring to as Debian is actually Gentoo/Debian, or as I like to call it, Gentoo + openSUSE.

Every version of server is a GUI server. Its just install type that removes it.

Its RHEL based which depending on your field experience with it is invaluable.

All of which are better than NSA/Windows
I'm normally a Windows 10 proponent but I can't justify this. Now all you get with Pro is basically Hyper-V and BitLocker... woo, I guess.

There's still a large range of items that can still be managed with the policy editor
Winaero depicts three items that have been changed to only work on what I can see as workstation machines, or machines you can only get with volume licensing, much more expensive for business use
I don't see what they gain out of this besides the fact they can say fuck you I control your shit.
[editline]29th July 2016[/editline]
Really shit company practice.

As previously mentioned, their massive market share means they can get away with it due to the average consumer being someone less technologically versed who'd rather deal with their shitty practices than getting out of their OS comfort zone.
And the fact so many upgraded for free also means Microsoft can say "but you got it for free, so you can't really complain"
you guys are seriously freaking out about the suggested app in the start menu in your free OS?

and yet no one gives a shit when android or apple do this stuff. google literally makes all of their money via targeted advertising.

It's pretty annoying when it actually pops up notifications from time to time saying "Hey please try out Office 365!". Even over games
[editline]30th July 2016[/editline]
Also I'd rather have targeted advertising in places where it belongs than advertising at all in my operating system.
Microsoft needs to stop acting so possessive over its users. Let us do whatever the fuck we want.

Yeah, which is why I'm against nannying users. No matter how closed down everything is they're just going to invent an idiot so moronic that they'll find a way to still break shit. Though people being dumb is one of the reasons I chose the two dialogs like I did. If you noticed, the second dialog I came up with swaps the affirmative and negative buttons around from where they were in the first dialog forcing people to pay a bit more attention. Though of course a moron is still going to be a moron and not bother reading but that at least means a few more people will pay more attention after the first time they get the wrong button.
you guys are seriously freaking out about the suggested app in the start menu in your free OS?
Ironically this is basically exactly what Van-man was saying, although you're not Microsoft. Just most of the people who are for Windows 10 have this exceptionally moronic mindset of "I don't mind it so nobody else should!!!!"
and yet no one gives a shit when android or apple do this stuff. google literally makes all of their money via targeted advertising.
Marketshare and people being more uneducated about it. That's the main difference. Most people who speak out against Microsoft for this stuff would also be against Apple or Google doing the same. The ones who don't already speak out about it are most likely uneducated about the difference and/or don't use those platforms so the issues there are not apparent to them.
How long until someone finds a way to disable lock screen/windows tips/consumer experience stuff once the anniversary update hits? I really enjoy Windows 10 and I don't want to be behind a few updates. These group policy settings have been helpful but I'm worried slowly they'll erode more of them from the Pro edition.
you guys are seriously freaking out about the suggested app in the start menu in your free OS?
It actually costs $130-$200 or the price of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license. It's free if you're a pirate.
Also neither Android nor iOS installing apps without permission like Windows 10 does. And those systems are also free - iOS' price is included in iPhone purchase and Android, being a largely customized Linux distro, is free completely. And you can disable all this spying shit on iOS and Android.

Layout might be different in the current public release, however options exist to disable them
The term "other senders" refer to desktop applications,
"Some senders might also have their own notification settings. If so, open the sender to change them"
basically this stuff

I'm fine with getting notifications from already installed apps, because that's how notifications are supposed to work
What I'm not fine with is Windows downloading fucking candy crush and similar bullshit by itself
