If I have my facts straight, Google had the "unified search" in Android before Apple came out with it. Apple patented it first though. Completely legal and fair. edit: guys I was being sarcastic calm down :v:
Copyrighting something that your competitor came up with, so that you have an advantage over your competitor, is not fair and shouldn't be legal.
Google had all the ability to patent it first. It's completely fair because Google already has the time advantage due to it being their own invention. People should start patenting their work if they want to retain control over it.
People shouldn't have to patent something as simple as a search function to protect their products from their competitors uninhibited monopolization through excessive patent trolling.
I never stated that Apple's patent itself was fair. But the idea of being the first to patent is completely fair. With all these patent trolls companies should be smart enough to be patenting these types of things, even if they shouldn't have to.

Judge was probably bribed with free Apple products for life. I think when it comes to cases about technology patents, a judge with some expertise(or just enough to know the difference between something legit and something stupid) should be used for them.

I don't see it.
As already stated this is the wrong phone. The Galaxy S running Touchwiz is obviously a blatant iPhone/iOS ripoff (to me, that is). The Galaxy Nexus on the other hand is pretty much entirely different, it's designed by Google, not Samsung. Samsung just builds it. The fact that Apple - who shamelessly stole hundreds of features from WP7's as well as Android's dropdown notifications amongst tons of other features - isn't getting sued back is pissing me off badly.
BURN IN HELL APPLE. I AM NEVER BUYING ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS AGAIN.
Shut up, people like you who come into this thread make things worse.
Holyshitballs unified search is in a million other things besides phones, it's NOT something you should be able to patent in the slightest. The patent system is a piece of shit. It's like old people using technology, only with legal ramifications.
"It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging," Apple said. "This kind of blatant copying is wrong and, as we've said many times before, we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas."
This lady sounds like she only has a rough idea of what's going on. I doubt she's even seen a picture of the Nexus.
If the Galaxy series gets banned next I WILL shit on Jobs grave.
The patent office is what should be blamed here not the judge. Apple shouldnt be able to patent things like search, touch, and design because it is the basics of how to make a tablet or smartphone. It would be like if they were allowed to patent the idea that a tablet has to have its screen perfectly center. You cant do that because thats how every tablet is made/designed, allowing them to patent it in the first place would destroy the competition keeping anyone from making a tablet that is functional. Hey guess what, Google had a search feature integrated into android a long ass fucking time ago, yet you didnt see them doing this shit when apple added it to their OS. Fucking retarded.
I'm waiting for the Supreme Court to declare apple as a monopoly in the near future and shatter them into pieces. At this rate, they are going to be a monopoly on the phone industry.
I love how even though every android phone has this, they target the most popular one.
This is seriously a case over a phone having a fucking search functionality THIS IS SERIOUSLY A CASE OVER A PHONE HAVING A FUCKING
SEARCH FUNCTIONALITY
This is pathetic.
Stop comparing phones. It's about the lockscreen.
This is where Google needs to step in. When Apple is messing with their Nexus series, they've got to make them stop.
They need a judge like the Oracle vs Google judge who knew what the fuck was going on.
If I were Google, I would pull all Google apps from the Apple app store
Boycotting Apple.
I'm trying to figure out the justification behind an injunction here. I want a Nexus, not an iPhone. It has absolutely nothing to do with the search feature on it. And because of this, I can't get a Nexus, and I still won't get an iPhone. The only damage to Apple here is the damage to its public image when Samsung customers can no longer buy the phone they want. I doubt there will be a lot of customers that suddenly decide "oh wow, that was such a good move by Apple, I should buy an iPhone instead!" And at no point was there ever a single customer that had this mental process:
"Gee whiz, I sure to want a Samsung phone, but their search is so horrible! I'm getting an iPhone instead." "Say there pal, Samsung just released a new phone with equal searching capabilities!" "Well I'll be blowed, I shall head to the store and buy me up one of them fine Samsung phones in a jiffy!" "Twenty-three skidoo!"
Never happened, Apple. Get your head out of your ass.
Copyrighting something that your competitor came up with, so that you have an advantage over your competitor, is not fair and shouldn't be legal.
That's not how patenting works though. When Apple applied for the patent, they had to prove that there wasn't a pre-existing idea out there, and to prove that it wasn't stolen from someone else. Ever heard of "Patent Pending"? I know we all have seen that stamped on some item we purchased, or software we installed. It's not like they just threw the patent out on the table and said "THIS IS MY IDEA" and the government was like "okay" and it was done. Apple must have made their search unique enough to get the patent, and Samsung either didn't get the memo, didn't care enough, or intentionally made a search system very similar to Apple's to the point where it infringed on the patent. Does it suck? Yeah. Is it criminal and evil? No. Apple is just protecting their ideas and work. Wouldn't you be a little pissed if your software was copied by someone else without your permission, and was being sold without you getting credit or seeing any of the profits? This is just another anti-Apple circle jerk. Is Apple immoral? Yes, but this isn't one of the reasons they're immoral. This is just a simple patent dispute that happened between two companies. Basically it just seems like you guys are throwing a fit because you can't get the Nexus, so the next thing you do is just blame Apple, instead of maybe thinking about what you read and realizing that the justice system found that Samsung fucked up. Yet, no one will blame Samsung and will instead go after Apple because they are bigger.
Except all of the patents are really trivial and shouldn't have been granted in the first place.
How is it trivial?
How is it trivial?
Because one of the patents is for "Searching multiple sources from one box". If that's not "trivial" then you shouldn't be allowed near patents.
