side question: what do all of you think about pirating things like music, movies, and television? is that really any different than pirating games?
He really does. This isn't even about morals its because some retard got so buttmad about piracy he was acting like they should be raped my wolves

I'm more willing to pay for a game than any of those things

No it's not. Why do you assume the answer to your first question MUST be contradictory?
Your mistake is thinking that pirates care about giving anyone excuses or moral justifications, "60€ for a game haha fuck off" is all they're ever gonna need to say.
just saying 60$ for a game is retarded
only reason its allowed is because people are so used to throwing money at these companys for a game that could be horrorible
yet reviews don't mean alot these days
because these companys throw money at the reviewers just to have a 10/10 score or 9/10
This game isn't even a good example of piracy issue, they've blatantly flat out lied about so much and made 9 collectors editions riddled with exclusive content, and didn't even encrypt their preload.
I'm not even mad to see so many people cancelling their preorder and pirating it. If this game flopped it wouldn't be a bad thing.
When I was 14 I pirated everything because I had no money. I wanted to try a whole bunch of different games and that was really the only option available to me. I buy everything now because I actually have money to buy it with, but it's not like there was any potential purchasing missed out on before that.
Honestly if it wasn't for piracy there's so much stuff I would have missed out on. Movies, comic books, tons of stuff that's either expensive or difficult to acquire when you're younger. A lot of that stuff is what inspired me to get into illustration. And when you hear about things like Quentin Tarantino "borrowing" VHS tapes from the movie rental place he worked at, I can't help but feel that that's sort of a common experience.
though that was before Humble Bundles gave you dozens of hours of content for practically nothing so fuck if I know
Thats why you do your research. Look at user reviews too, not just critic reviews. I had some money laying about, thought "hey you know, i'm not doing anything with this, i'll check out COD: Ghosts." 1 page of reviews later I thought "you know, instead i'm going to take my wife out to dinner"
lol yeah user reviews for a game thats not even fucking out
Wonder where those came from...
Edit:
You also imply that the companies don't forge their own user reviews, people have caught devs red handed censoring reviews, posting comments on reddit and botting to get them to the top.. They're so lazy they didn't even write new ones for the different posts, same replies too
If it's a week after release I'm probably gonna pirate it, they've ruined the idea of buying a week after release with preorder deals on 90% of games, with the 10% off, bonus exclusive missions/skins etc. buying a week later feels like getting less for more.
This game in particular has 9 goddamned collectors editions, so the only way to get everything without spending tons of $$$ is to pirate it
But you don't have to get everything to enjoy the game.
I remember when I got into the titanfall beta and it turned out my computer ran it with he shittest framerate imaginable, I decided then not to buy it.
I can't remember when I last bought a AAA title, all I get nowadays are indie games.
I don't know why anyone would want Watch_Dogs, pirate or not.
I tried Watch Dogs and decided that it's a blockbuster game, so I won't buy it.
If I had liked it, I'd probably buy it at some point.
This applies to piracy as well.
TPB being full of viruses and scammers? What a shocker!
After getting fucked over with BRINK I'm not falling for any 'super ingame gameplay 'trailer and 'honest game developer promised' with new games.
I don't know why anyone would want Watch_Dogs, pirate or not.
Hahaha, fuck those guys who like things I don't like, right?
just saying 60$ for a game is retarded
I wish it was that cheap.
I pre-ordered Watch_Dogs on Steam a few days ago and it cost me ~500,- NOK which according to google is $83.88
They think they're entitled to it because they can't afford it.
That way of thinking is only applicable to stuff like housing, water and food, not luxury items such as games.
hypothetically speaking, i can afford any of these games. but i would much rather download a copy of the game for free and not like it, than pay $50-60 for a copy of the game and not like it. still hypothetically speaking, if i were to enjoy said game, i would be willing to shell out the cash for steam convenience sake, as well as having functional multiplayer.
Even when I was working the amount of money I took for myself every month wouldn't be able to pay for a 60$ title.
That being said this vehement hatred towards people who pirate is grossly unfounded, unless someone in this thread has lost a company purely to piracy, I don't see why there's such anger over something so trivial. If it's an indie game or something from a budding company then I can see why, they're usually pretty darn cheap, but a full 60$ (or more, as evidenced by poster who's name I can't remember) from a company that's not only pissing money but has also pissed all over a majority of its PC user base, why come out side ways with the "WORSE THAN HITLER" stamps? Hell I'm more pissed about the 64bit only thing. I'm not saying there's an excuse for piracy or justification but the try before buying thing is legit.
Also ItIsJuly if you're so rich my birthday is in five days tia
I believe Watch_Dogs should be valued around $30, so I'm going to wait for it to go on sale for that price instead of pirating it and then waiting for the sale, because it's not up to me to determine its price.
Paying for games?
Well, of course, there's not really a crap-ton of moral justification for pirating. But on the same token, how the hell is a fourteen year old supposed to get his daily fill of whatever the fuck's coming out? It's for people who aren't pissing money all over the place or for people who don't get the freedom to piss money all over the place. No matter how much people go "OMG PIRATE YOU IMMMORAL FUCK", it's not going to stop people from doing something that is easy, hard to track, cheap, and results in free things and yet is illegal and somewhat immoral.
Yes. Fuck them.
Do you think people should get away with stealing cars because they don't have enough money to buy one, or because driving a cheap car isn't the same as driving a supercar?
I don't like the preorder shit, but that does not make it okay to pirate.
Lol you seriously used the "You wouldn't download a car!" argument.
Holy shit I didn't see the 8 pages after the one I was reading.
i find it hilarious that the fact that you guys think you have the right to pirate a game because you cant get a job or cash, and justify it completely. Get over yourselves
Most of the time, attempts to justify pirating things are laughable. It's morally wrong, everyone should just admit it. Sure, in the grand scheme of things it's not that bad, but it's still wrong.
The only time it's somewhat justifiable is when someone has absolutely no way to legally acquire whatever it is they're pirating.

Morality is highly subjective.

Explain how pirating games is a moral thing to do.
Copying answers from a classmate isn't stealing. There's nothing wrong because I'm not physically taking anything from him! It's just sharing.
Explain how pirating games is a moral thing to do.
No one is directly or indirectly harmed because of it?
The video game industry is thriving, it's bigger than it's ever been and it's not slowing down any time soon. A few million people not paying for a game, most of whom would have never bought the game in the first place, isn't going to put anyone on the streets.
If you can show me an example of someone having to go without because their paycheck was severely docked or non-existant because everyone pirated their game, and it's not just because the game sucked, I might reconsider.

Very easy, you make choices.

claiming authorship of someone's work is not at all comparable to downloading a copy of Shit Hunter 9000 so you can dick around for a few hours until you forget about it.
Everyone coming up with pirating and stealing analogies to compare should stop 90% of all your examples are completely stupid and don't even come close to same concept that pirating is. I've read a bunch of analogies in this thread which don't even come close to what pirating is and they miss the point.
