I use spotify free. I did pirate my music back in the day but with spotify there is no need any more. Sucks when my phone has no wifi but that doesn't happen too often so I'm lucky there.
Now you're using the "there are more important things" argument? Just because there are people in africa dying from dehydration does not mean things closer to us are all sunshine and rainbows.
it's like I'm arguing with 14 year olds see I can do ad hominem too
you're telling me you live in Australia and you've paid out the ass for every game (excluding f2p's) that you own? all 108? I don't like the idea of pirating shit, but people can do whatever the fuck they please, get off your moral high horse please
I didn't pirate when I didn't have a job, I don't pirate now that I do. Even with the job my money is tight so I save my pennies and wait for the sales and humble bundles. Sometimes I pool with friends to buy those four-packs on Steam so we all save a bit of dosh. I'm quite happy sitting on this ethical equine thanks.

Does that make you a better person? ItIsJuly apparently thinks it does.
Does that make you a better person? ItIsJuly apparently thinks it does.
It partially does because you're not making anyone waste time and lose their money as a result tbh.
you're latvian, minimum wage is 320 euros
do you have any idea what it's like in the rest of the world, for example eastern europe
I make 200~ euros a month and that's above minimum wage
Does that make you a better person? ItIsJuly apparently thinks it does.
No it doesn't. But you know what does? Not using your poorness as an excuse to pirate. If you pirate you pirate, I personally don't care about that. What I do care about is when people use poorness as an excuse.

it literally makes no fucking difference dude

yes because a company with these statistics
Revenue Increase €1.256 billion (2012)
Operating income Increase €87.9 million (2012)[2]
Net income Increase €3.9 million (2012)[2]
Employees 9,200 (2013)[1]
is losing money because someone wants to pirate a game
Yeah fuck all those people for downloading stuff because they don't feel like paying 40+ bucks for a game that they won't even have a complete version of because of all the preorder bullshit
And fuck poor people too
if you can't afford to handle buying video games I think you have way bigger issues on your hands buddy
I've committed my fair share of piracy in the past (hardly ever nowadays, thanks to spotify/netflix/general low cost of games post-release and apathy towards games at release). But the levels of self-entitlement in this thread are fucking disgusting. At least have the gall to admit when you're doing something like piracy that you're doing a bad thing. Fact is, you're not respecting the authorship of the artists/coders/designers when you pirate a game.

tbf I think video game publishers factor in piracy very well when it comes to advertising, boxing, etc, they are past the worries of 5-6 years ago when drm was rampant. DRM these days gets shot down by consumers and the smart publishers know this very well, Ubisoft for example completely removed drm from their games past Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
sigh, sim city

You're misunderstanding me a bit. I am not saying don't pirate. I don't care if you do or don't. What I am asking is please do not use poorness as an excuse or reason to do so. That's it. I don't feel bad about all the big corps who sell vastly overpriced shit. It just rustles my jimmies when people use poorness as an excuse as if that permits or entitles them to perform illegal activities.
if you can't afford to handle buying video games I think you have way bigger issues on your hands buddy
I will never understand people like this
do you really view minimum wage workers as subhumans who are incapable of playing video games
Would you download a handbag?! YOU DARN PIRATES

it's the same fucking thing as pirating normally dude
they just came up with a reason to
do you really view minimum wage workers as subhumans who are incapable of playing video games
Where do you see that he's calling minimum wage workers subhumans?
Where do you see that he's calling minimum wage workers subhumans?
uh the part where he says that if you work minimum wage you have bigger issues on your hand than playing video games???
it's like saying "haha oh wow you're not working hard enough to deserve this privilege"
if you can't afford to handle buying video games I think you have way bigger issues on your hands buddy
But hypothetically, level with me here, what if I make just enough to pay the bills and put enough food on the table but not enough to get something I really want to because publishers overprice their games?
[editline]a[/editline]
Btw that's actually what happens to me 90% of the time.

320 euros isn't really that much when you pay bills, taxes etc.
plus most places can't even afford to pay 320 euros.
it's the same fucking thing as pirating normally dude

I personally am not okay with poorness used as a reason to pirate. I have no stance on actual piracy, just some of the stupid reasons pirates use.
it's the same fucking thing as pirating normally dude

Everyone who pirates has a reason to, that's been made clear. But the reasons for piracy aren't the justification for piracy. Never have, never will be.
Completely fucking off the topic: you have good taste in monogataris
I personally am not okay with poorness used as a reason to pirate. I have no stance on actual piracy, just some of the stupid reasons pirates use.
do you not understand that someone using an excuse is just as bad as someone pirating a game??????????
it's better than not having a reason

yeah i know kanbaru best girl
but am i saying pirating is a good thing? i'm not saying it's justified, it's just better to have a reason than not to.
I bet you guys probably buy your music too
Since we're bringing numbers into this, might as well bring numbers into piracy.
First consider that this is an AAA title.
That means that the publishers have to pay for the money spent on developing it, have to hire voice actors, sometimes license musical tracks, licenses, advertising, etc.
On top of all that, they still have to pay their employees monthly.
This is where the numbers come into play, the publisher loses out on money when you pirate a game, that doesn't mean they go into negative.
However, let's increase the amount of pirates.
Let us have 5% of the buyers torrent the game. How much money do they lose out on now?
10%, 13% , 20%, etc.
The lost money amount increases with every download. Of course, it is the same if we were to replace the buyers with "potential buyers who didn't buy", but in that case it was the fault of the developers and the publishers for not managing to cause enough interest in the game.
swe're also talking about a company that has released unplayable port after unplayable port for neigh on a decade
Care to refresh my memory?

People pirate games all the time why is it such a big deal? Why are we having a huge argument about this? It's literally a part of the internet, terrible or not, pirating isn't going to go away any time soon.

When I'm clicking the download button on a torrent, I will think of itisjuly, laying in my chair, wondering about the meaning of his words. As the seeds appear, I will whisper -
I am poor.
I'm cool with the redistribution of resources as much as the next guy, but it doesn't matter how much you're against capitalism & the man; there is no human right to playing a fucking video game. Just man up and admit that you're doing a shitty thing when you appropriate the hard work of the artists who produced the game. Obviously it's not the same as stealing a car/material object, but either way you're placing your rights to play a video game above the creative rights of the developers which is just not ok.

Are you seriously giving a Latvian shit for having 320€ minimum wage? Are you kidding me?
Also, you're from hungary, the minimum wage there is 330€ , whereas for Latvia it is actually 280€
Which is incredibly low for both
