I don't understand how anyone could not like her
I don't understand how anyone could not like her
Oh, I don't know...
I like what Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic) had to say about her.
I'll be honest, for the longest time I associated Joan Rivers, who passed away today at the age of 81, with being a materialistic sucking leach (especially in the 90s), but years later I realized it was all part of the joke. As I watched her more on shows like Louie, the Tonight Show, the Late Show, and Hell even the Apprentice, I realized this was not only a clever comedian, but a smart woman. I'm glad I realized it and could see some her great material. If you were like me and associated her only with Red Carpet gossiping, look at some of her other work to realize not only did she trick us, but she was laughing all the way.

I like what Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic) had to say about her.
Was earnestly stating that all Palestinians should die part of the joke too?
Was earnestly stating that all Palestinians should die part of the joke too?
It's not like she was 81, grew up as the holocaust was happening (She would have been 11 in 1944, and 12 in 1945), and was Jewish. It's almost as if her experiences in life dictated her opinion.
Everybody knows Hitler was very passionate about Palestine.
You missed the point. The point is, she was very young during an event that was intended to wipe out all Jewish populations, that surely left an impression on her and how she would view Palestine (And lets be real here, the leader of Hamas has stated that he does not want a Jewish state to exist. Doesn't necessarily make what Israel is doing right, but it shows the stalemate that both sides are a part of). To ignore that aspect of it, and just say "lol yea shit person", instead of realizing she was MULTIFACETED HUMAN BEING like everyone else who formed her opinions due to a lot of shit that happened in her life, is ridiculous.

And this is the important bit out of that article.
According to reports early in August, Rivers said that Palestinians “deserved to die.” She was asked a question about a recent Israeli offensive in Gaza, and a photographer asked her about the death toll in Gaza, to which she replied: “The dead? You deserve to be dead. You started it. Don’t you dare make me feel sad about that.” However, she later apologized and said her quotes were taken out of context. She said, “I am both saddened and disappointed that my statement about the tragedy of civilian casualties was totally taken out of context. What I said and stand behind is, war is hell and unfortunately civilians are victims of political conflicts. We, The United States, certainly know this as 69 years later we still feel the guilt of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.” “The media, as usual, has decided to only quote the most out of context and inflammatory non sequitur rather than giving an accurate account of what my intentions were behind the statement. Along with every other sane person in this world, I am praying for peace. It is stupid and wrong and I am tired of bearing the brunt of attacks by people who want to sell newspapers or gain ratings by creating a scandal about me that is non-existent.”
What Joan Rivers said in that video was raw, it was real. That was how she thought. Apologizing or trying to say that her statement were taken out out of context when she realized how bad it sounded and how much of fuss was going to be kicked up does not change the fact that she meant every word.
I don't think many people ITT realize what Joan Rivers did or has done for comedy or just the show business in general. Particularly for women. I challenge you to find someone who sustained a career, especially in comedy, for more than 60 years. I recommend you all check out her documentary "A Piece of Work" She probably worked 99% harder than anyone in this thread, including me, ever will.

I wasn't too big a fan of her as a person, I'll admit, but I still hold great respect for her, and as a comedian she was fantastic. It's a shame she's gone, really.
Even though beauty doesn't last forever, her beauty shall be remembered forever. [editline]6th September 2014[/editline] Oh don't mind me, I just tried to come up with something nice to say about her death.
I personally knew her only from her last visit to Graham Norton show and in that she was very hilarious. The stuff posted in the thread makes her less likeable but none's perfect. Also she died at 81, that's a decent age.
celebrity dies people sad media says "celebrity had demons/skeletons in closet" people mad
Except those are different people. The people who were sad didn't care about her comments before, and they don't care now. Likewise for people who thought she wasn't a good person. She still had a fairly unpleasant attitude and said some rude things, and it's that that defines her character more, and was even the more prominent of what she did, in recent years.
I like what Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic) had to say about her.
Ironic shit-talking is still shit-talking
's never fun to laugh/cheer at someone's death, as there are surely someone mourning her. Despite her opinions and retorts that she made in life, I as one offer condolences to those she left behind.
she's a comedian who knew how to laugh at herself, and her family said that they want us to continue laughing even though she's gone. i'd like to think most of us are laughing to let her spirit live on.
It's sad that she's dead but she was a massive cunt
