He has literally made a career out of knowing how to get food off strangers, how to scam casinos for cash(he lives in Vegas), and otherwise make enough to live without having to buy a home. In some ways he lives a really shit life, in other ways he is as free as he could possibly be and loves it. They are homeless by choice, so they fit into the professional homeless category.

They have a valid concern, the protests are drawing a lot of homeless people who are just coming for free food and better living conditions. I drove by my city's small Occupy wannabe protest, and it basically looks like a homeless camp full of bums. At the exact time I drove by, the clearly homeless outnumbered the actual protesters.
