And yet, people are focusing on children learning in games. I'm not only talking about that edutainment shit, I'm talking about those experimental games (not released to Public yet) purposely difficult and impossible to complete without it's own code being edited. Players could edit the game's code to make it easier or actually possible to win.
I play video games and I'm one of the smartest in my classes. I bet they picked the stupidest kids they could for this survey.
Not this again
I learned most of my english from the internet and video games, then classes improved it

Same here
Is that why my reading and writing skills are advanced for my age?
Pfft, my ability to learn has been hindered since I was born.
If anything, video games have helped me.
Video games are a form of entertainment, just like books or movies, and they must be enjoyed in moderation with schoolwork. The thing is, it's not the fault of the video games that kids spend more time on them than schoolwork; it's the fault of the parents. It's the parents who get them for their kids, and it's the parents who teach them their work ethic. It's the parents' responsibility to ensure that their kids learn to balance work and play. It's always been like that. I wouldn't be surprised if there were dumb articles around a hundred years ago claiming that books about fiction were distracting kids from their schoolwork.
who gives a shit about reading when i can shoot and hack people? regardless i can read and write perfectly fine when the situation requires it. biased shit is biased. Even so video games for kids have to be moderated and aren't the game developers or the games themselves fault, I blame the parents!
Good thing i'm a girl.

don't say that on a forum comprised mainly of 13-17 year-old boys...
Bullshit. I'm the smartest in my class and then some, and I play videogames like hell. In fact, I've learned a few things from videogames, and grew a little more interest in reading after playing a few particular games.
F-OFF, JACK THOMPSON!!! :argh:
Well than I must be a stupid boy. To bad I have a A in AP English.
Games have helped me remember what something is. Mostly in science I can use pandemic 2 to remember what some of the diseases are.
This just in: Control Group had been forced to study at gunpoint
[release]The amount of time you have is zero sum, so if you spend your time playing video games (OR DOING ANYTHING AT ALL) you can't spend your time doing other things. -Robert Weis[/release]
Brilliant research doctor. Give a kid a new toy and he plays with it instead of doing homework.
:hurr:
Depends on the subject, if it's Spanish you are trying to learn then go play on a Spanish speaking game server and try to talk to them until you can do it fluently, if it's maths you better stop playing around or you are going to be counting your future salary in decimals.
The thing is biased, it doesn't take into account the current academic situation of the children nor does it take into effect there values on Homework before games.
THIS JUST IN:
Pre-teen students who are unregulated in their playing time prefer playing games to doing work! Clearly this is the fault of the games and not the parents!
Well I guess the entire generation must be full of idiots. Because I don't know a single person who doesn't own a console, save the awkward kid I share a locker with.
I think I've learned more english and history on the computer than in school
And now there will be a study that shows gamers typically have higher I.Q.s than non-gamers.
Let's be honest, there are plenty of morons on facepunch, but I'd bet most of them are the smartest kids in their classes.
If it was not for games I would be a depressed pile of shite.

Like you have statistics to prove otherwise.
not this again. i bet you JoshChristian99 wrote this..
Whatif insted of banning the games they play the educationl ones and then take the test?
I probably wouldn't be able to read if I didn't get Pokemon Red and a gameboy colour for Christmas as a young child.

god i miss that game.:froggonk:
Have to disagree. I learned a shitload of vocabulary from games that I didn't know previously.
Good thing i'm a girl.
Sorry, but I'm doubtful. Like all other "girls" on facepunch you've gotta prove yourself with a photo, facepunch in the background or something similar.
Any hobby hinders learning if you use your hobby to escape from school work.
