On the contrary! I learned the word "juxtaposition" from Metal Gear Solid 2.
Soul Reaver taught me "unconscionable".
Fuck this article. I taught myself English as a second language with the help of a PS1 and a couple of games.

I fucking love games that educate you, but don't force it down your unwanting throat.
fuck you scientists i found out i can double jump by trying to jump in the air

"There's nothing evil about video games per se," said study researcher Robert Weis, a psychologist at Denison University in Ohio. "It's just that we need to monitor kids' usage of these games and to urge moderation in the amount that kids play these games." well at least that part is right
I agree with Juniez, gaming should be monitored, at least for younger children. If you take a child and let him play without limits, he's likely going to be playing all night (at least until they get a bit older and understand the benefits of getting some sleep) and I started playing video games when I was 3 - Lots of puzzle games and the like, and now I pwn my math class - I play minesweeper almost the entire period (save for a quiz at the end of the period) and I never study for test, yet I still have an A+ in precalc. I actually have a somewhat large test tomorrow on simplifying trigonometric functions and I couldn't care less right now.
Video games have taught me to code and do a lot of shit with computers.
Pokemon definitely taught me how to read.
My reading and writing skills became a lot better when I started playing computer games and hanging around facepunch. But my motivation in school went way down :saddowns: Long story short, if your comprehension skills go down the crapper after playing video games, it's not the game's fault. The kids are idiots.
I learned how to read a very young age by playing A Link To The Past and Ocarina Of Time. It also taught me sophisticated words and unconventional sentence structures.
What the shit. My reading comprehension level is post-high school. I'm in 10 grade. Some kids who don't even play games in my English class got a 6th grade reading comprehension level on the test we had to take.
I know some Italian insults from playing Assassin's Creed 2
Resident Evil taught me how to prepare for a zombie invasion I went outside and gathered all the plants I could [editline]07:40AM[/editline]
i know some italian insults from playing assassin's creed 2
MONEYY MONEYY
I learned English from playing Blockland.
I would not say this is a neutral reaserch.More like:Let´s make gamers look bad so we can go back to your christian status quo! Btw,i am the best in english in my year, probalby because i played Quake 3 :Arean on the internet with english people when i was 3. (atleast the best in the "Lernstand",a test that compares you to other students all over the country)
Pokemon taught me that water is H2O.
I was taught to read by my parents. Probably the best way.
...:smug:....
Give the boys the 'Internet' and they will learn. This forums taught a bunch of people English. And I've learned some things from being here.
Video games actually encourage me to do my homework. When Bioshock 2 came out I did my homework as soon as I came home so I could play Bioshock 2 faster. When I was bored of all my current games I just watched TV and didn't feel like doing anything.
Haha, I was in ELA for a year to learn English, didn't get shit done. Popped in Pokemon Yellow for the first time and BAM in a month I'm out.
Action games improve vision? My ass! I'm blind as a fucking bat!
Runescape made my spelling go down the shitter. Though that was a community thing more likely. :v:
You should listen to some german politicers. CS is bad, mkay? You kill helpless people with rpgs and it makes you voilent and dumb! Yeah...RPGs in cs. FTW!!!
If I'd never played GMod, I would never have started programming. What was that about hindering learning? :eng101:
Apparently, the game does not affect anything. That statement is not without foundation, but rather the result of a recent study conducted by researchers at Flinders University, South Australia. According to them, the video game does not have a negative impact on the performance of adolescents, Video Games Not Affect Lesson Value in Schools (User was permabanned for this post ("Joined just to advertise his blog in a 4 year old thread" - Gurant))
I'll be honest, I didn't notice this was an old thread until I saw a 'Bad Reading' rating. Super bump!
I was so damn confused when I saw the "Bad Reading"
seriously, what causes people to somehow find an ancient thread and bump it?
