I always wondered, is there any way to avoid getting killed if you're on the tracks and a train is coming? I mean obviously most people that get pushed onto tracks aren't going to be thinking straight but still it would be cool to know if there was a way to survive.
Some countries I've been in have the tracks elevated about a meter off the concrete, but I can't remember where this was. Might've been in Mexico or some cities in the US, or, 10 other countries.
Anymore of these news articles and I'm going to develop a major fear of New York train stations.
It would be easier and safer to close off the area with glass and automated doors like they do in some countries.
Probably more expensive though.
How about reverse the elevation of the platform and the track so that there's a concrete barrier between you and the track at all times and you have to walk up a small set of stairs to board the train? I can't see anyone being pushed up and over something like that

Bitch got caught http://news.msn.com/us/police-have-suspect-in-custody-in-nyc-subway-death/
But I can see people falling DOWN the stairs and injuring themselves.
At least they wont get squished
Its totally worth the upgrade.
The MTA doesn't give a fuck. NYC sees people getting thrown onto train tracks about twice a week. Either by them selves, or someone murdering them. By now it's a pretty normal thing, and nobody seems to want anything to do with stopping it.
So it was a hate crime. Bloody racists.
I suppose they could have a system where a sensor could detect if there's any large mass on the train tracks in front of the station and automatically stop any incoming trains.
Or you could put a giant gate of some kind to block people from getting over? And don't give me that "the train might not stop perfectly where the gates line up" crap because people can just walk to the train door from the space they're given.

What's that supposed to mean? Climb over the fence and into the door?
If the train stops behind the fence they can walk to the train door from the space they're given? What's that supposed to mean? Climb over the fence and into the door?
I think he means putting a fence between the platform and the train in a way so there would be a certain amount of distance from the fence itself to the train that a group of people can easily fit in.
ok lets just shut down the entire train system for a few weeks to put up escape hatches
I suppose they could have a system where a sensor could detect if there's any large mass on the train tracks in front of the station and automatically stop any incoming trains.
Most of the time these happen its when the train is seconds from where the person is on the track, even if the train did break when a person was detected it would slide over them anyway. Unless the train could grab onto the tracks or something and stop instantly than this would not really work, it would also injure commuters inside the train as they get slammed around when the train abruptly stops.

I like trains. Whats will trains this year popping up in the news.
So, (excuse the poor drawing) why don't we have anything like this yet? It would obviously be easier for a person to dodge a train by running forward than trying to climb back onto the platform. It wouldn't much help those who were injured by the fall, but the ones that can manage to run can at least save themselves.
An old train station near me is built against a cliff face with a brick wall covering it and has a number of alcoves along the side, it might be just a fancy pattern or it might have been originally made for track workers to dive for cover. I dont know enough about trains or walls to be sure.
Things like this make me fucking terrified to be in the London underground during rush hour. Only a very small handful of stations have the glass barriers and I very much doubt many more will get them due to the very slow upgrade process that they system has been in for years and the curved nature of many of the stations (the fucking gap between the train and the platform at 'Bank' Central Line stop is scary enough). The whole system is far too outdated and many of the platforms are too thin to cope with the amount of people.
that cocksucker menendez is at it again :v:
