More than a million people drink just to feel normal

My mom is an alcoholic, she's been in a horrible state since dad left her. :smith:
Aussies need booze just to act like normal humans
Nothing wrong with drinking if you're not doing it just to see how drunk you can get or mixing it with other drugs. I have a ridiculous tolerance though, go through a few cups of vodka and just get buzzed :saddowns:
This is really sad, drugs are such easy ways to escape sadness and depression. And when you do them while being sad and depressed it's so easy to become dependent on it, and then addicted.

This includes not only drugs but anything; sports, computer, attention.
Depends on what kind of person you are.
Sometimes it can be more about wellbeing than an escape.
and one-third of 18- to 24-year-olds, drink specifically to get drunk.
One third? More like all of them. Why else would you drink alcohol, it tastes like ass.

How much is a cup?
Partially true, it's more of a mood changer, since if you're too depressed in a way beyond what alcohol does, it can take you to a "lesser level". If you get my point.
No, it is true that alcohol is a depressant because it slows bodily functions. The term depressant has nothing to do with your mood.
Ice cold beer :smug:
I only drink at partyes
to have more fun.

Yes ofcourse. I just know the dependency feeling.

You're a depressant.
Alcohol makes you feel real good. You also get better at everything when you're drunk (including singing and dancing).

:ohdear:
Alcohol is a depressant.
You're right, it is a depressant. However it's not quite in the same sense as you might think. The only depressing part is that you move slower and your ability to think or move is depressed. Mood-wise though it releases dopamine into the system in the same way all drugs do thereby giving that happy feeling people get when they are tipsy. I know some smartass is going to come on like HOW COME PEOPLE KILL EACH OTHER WHEN THEY'RE DRUNK but as I said earlier it really does change the way you think. Mixed in with suppressed emotions bad things can happen to people who would not do the same if they were sober.
Is there any other reason to start? Really, a lot of people smoke, but I don't know why they started doing it.
In my case no particular reason, I tried it, I enjoyed it, and I didn't look back.
Since the limit here is 18, I don't drink. (Respect to da police)But i don't look down on others who drink, but i usually own them by brining my guitar and playing something rather weird (something that works and is almost awful). If they tell me to shut up I ask "why should i?"
They have ALWAYS said "It's annoying". I ALWAYS answer "I am annoyed that you're drinking" and yes, i do that just to annoy people.
Stupid bastards

It still is technically a depressant. means it suppresses your nerves and dulls your thought. Though the thought dulling is what makes you good at singing and dancing, because you loosen up a bit and don't feel uptight.
Alcohol is a depressent when it runs out :saddowns:

That is incorrect, it is a depressant because it slows bodily functions. It does decrease anxiety and make you more talkative, but that is not what makes it a depressant, otherwise any drug that had that affect would be labeled a depressant (such as many stimulants).
It's sampled out of Australia.
1 million people in australia.
1 million out of 21million. 1/21 is not THAT bad.
Alcohol makes you feel good.
Disagree? I feel good when I drink, dont know about you.
I feel good when I drink. i feel like shit when I wake up.
Alcohol is a depressant.
If you find yourself crying and being a little bitch after a few drinks. Then maybe alcohol isn't your thing, bro.
Alcohol does more bad than good. I don't need a social crutch and I've already got nice cold drinks. I'll stick with weed.
[editline]02:39AM[/editline]
Having a beer now and then is nice though.
Alcohol is a depressant.
I think you're misunderstanding the term. "Depressant" doesn't mean it makes you depressed (although it can), it just means it depresses the activity of your central nervous system.

I drink socially on occassion because it loosens me up.
I drink socially on occassion because it loosens me up.
And how does that not make you feel merry?
It's inevitable when alcohol is the only legal non-gray area intoxicating substance, if people could just smoke weed instead there'd be lots of happy livers.
hahaha I always laugh when these clever health people kick the lid off their precious imagination box they live in and come out telling everyone how they should live a healthy life
you're all going to die folks, and one of the main reasons I always whine at these things is because nobody is going to care about your insignificancy whether you spend your life drunk or not
live life, because as cliché it sounds you could get run over by a bus tomorrow and on the way to the hospital the thoughts of never living will cloud your head
I'd rather live my life sober, even if a bus was going to hit and kill me tomorrow.
I'd rather live my life sober, even if a bus was going to hit and kill me tomorrow.
and thats you.

My dream is to reach a point of relaxation at which there is no way to relax any more so. :v:
Alcohol gets me part way there. Music then moves it up a lot. I'm not ready to smoke cigars, but when I will(probably in 30 years time), i am certain I will get to this point. :mmmsmug:

That doesn't make sense, I'm sure that people like the buzz when you drink an okay amount, but if you get drunk, won't you feel sick and lightheaded?
