yeah ill believe it when i see it. they promised this with Planetside 2 at E3 as with cosmetics being the only thing you can buy, then they had a pay to win system that you either grind for fucking hours to unlock one gun, or pay some money and unlock it instantly.
Lol why do people say this
They never said this
The only thing they said about Planetside 2 is that the only thing that requires money to buy is cosmetics which is still 100% true
Many guns can be unlocked in less than a single play session (a lot of your early level weapon unlocks for example), others require a few days or week/two or so of playing a few hours a day to unlock. This isn't that big of a deal considering guns in planetside 2 aren't supposed to be things you just unlock every second like in battlefield, they are supposed to be conscious changes your your playstyle and load out.
Especially considering you don't need to really grind anything in planetside 2 as pretty much the entire base game is fully unlocked for ALL players free or paid, with the only things you unlock being weapons and class certs. Considering all the default gear is pretty damn good and competitive, its easy to make 60-100+ certs an hour if you don't suck without any boosting, and every class in the game and every vehicle in the game has zero cost barrier with it, I do not see an issue with Planetside 2's F2P system at all.
Literally the worst thing PS2 does is that their guns are overpriced. Which isn't a big deal if you get SC on a double/triple sale, or you only buy stuff from the store during sale periods. Anyone with real experience actually playing the game with an organized outfit can attest to how its nothing like what you described.
Hours? More like weeks. Planetside 2 is fun, but it's practically impossible to get ahead without dropping bucks on. The only good thing I can say about the unlock system is that the default weapons are very balanced, meaning getting new weapons isn't strictly necessary to be competitive.
This was true when the game first came out but not any more
I honestly have no trouble earning easily 100+ certs and hour of play on a totally unboosted character (aka I'm completely ignoring the 6-10 free boosts I picked up by just playing the game during their WDS event).
For most practical weapons thats 3-5 hours of playtime max before you settle on a weapon you might like. For the ability to unlock any weapon in the game including the 1000cert ones, that's about 10 hours of play.
When you play the game right, take advantage of the passive XP boosts that go on all the time (defense bonus, alert bonus, squad bonus, vehicle kill bonus, etc) you can easily get certs. Hell you get like 20 certs from a single sundy kill unboosted if it had people inside and the conditions were right - its rare for sure and you aren't likely to run into that situation but I'm just making a point.
People give shit for PS2 for having a bad F2P system but I really really don't see it at all. It works perfectly fine for what it aims to do, and you can play the entire game right out of the gate without paying a dime or without unlocking anything. You get the entire game experience and every option it affords from your first hour. That's more than what games like League of Legends can say, and thats one of the most successful F2P games ever made to date. I'll gladly take that at the cost of needing to spend 5-10 hours to unlock a high-cost gun I've been wanting to try out for the fun of it. Especially when that high-cost gun isn't really better in almost all cases, its just different and more optimized for certain role.
Oh you won't sell guns or boosters because that would make the game suck, unlike Planetside 2 were charging $7 for one gun is totally alright and adds to the experience.
Guns in PS2 are sidegrades, for the most part. They allow you to specialize more effectively, which is something that requires more skill anyway.
Also the default weapons are perfectly serviceable, with the default VS LMG arguably one of the best LMGs in the game.
They are thinking about adding chests which can only be opened with keys, kinda like dota 2 in a survival MMO which is just stupid.
FFS........ WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too many online games do this already. It wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the fact that the drop rate on crates tends to be insanely high. And the handful of games that have a means of opening them without spending real money tend to make the means to do so extremely rare and result in inferior rewards. Almost like they more so want you to spend money. Who'd have thought it?

The average ODMN player on Waterson earns more like 9.5k/hour, which is more like 40 certs, which is more like 25 hours of play.
Then we just need an MCG, 25 hours, rocket pods, 25 hours, adrenaline shield, 50 hours, annihilator, 25 hours, racer airframe, 20 hours...
I mean, that's not even beginning to scratch the surface of one vehicle and one infantry class.
This shit is why i like Sony.

Thing is you don't need any of those things to be competitive at the game.
As fucked up as that sounds, it doesn't seem like something pharmecutical companies wouldn't do if they could get away with it.
I can just imagine the CEO and a board of directors braingstorming ideas, and the CEO going "Guys what if we made a virus with the vaccine built in, and then ch-" and everyone interrupted him at once "No, sir, we've been over this before. That's illegal."
"Yeah but what if?"
Not only is that illegal, it would cause the amount of domestic terrorism to go straight to the fucking moon.
