My mom couldn't play portal 2.
I feel sorry for your loss.
Wait wait wait what. Didn't she also leave to go work on Dark Void?
My 6 year old brother beat Portal 2 by himself
Pretty crazy how this game's puzzles were so easy for everyone but me. I actually had to use a walk though on a few puzzles because they looks like they made no sense.
Junior year in High School, I had to do a job shadow at a career I was interested in. Long story short, I ended up spending a day at Airtight Games. This was about two years ago, a few months before the Kinect was officially released. Now, at this point I was much more of a casual gamer than I am now. TF2 was the only FPS game - and in fact the only Valve game - I regularly played, and I had only just started it. I hadn't even played through Portal yet, I'd get it for free later in a few months (I had played Narbacular Drop, though). Anyways, the guy that I met was a coder who was at a desk near Kim Swift. (I didn't spend much time there, I watched a texture artist most of the time). At this point, I was too oblivious to really know who she was, but I recognized some things on her desk - a metal companion cube, a GLaDOS mousepad. I remarked about those, and the guy I was with mentioned that she actually worked on the game. Remember, at this point I still didn't know much about Valve. Still, I recall being very surprised that someone would leave the videogame powerhouse and overall cool place Valve to work at some small third-party company. And then I read up about Portal later, and here we are. Sometimes I wish that I was more knowledgeable back then, but eh. I think it was cool to be able to see what went on behind the scenes and to learn all these terms as a total newcomer.
Wait wait wait what. They looked kind of like this.
I wish they didn't remove the more advanced Portal 2 levels they showed when demoing the new obstacles.

Hardcore doesn't equal hard. Plants Vs. Zombies is a pretty casual game, but at the same time is extremely hard at some points. Half-Life 2 isn't quite casual, but is far from being hard.
I mean honestly, who here thinks portal 2 was too difficult for them?
The majority of people at my school who tried it couldn't beat it.
The majority of people at my school who tried it couldn't beat it.
thats really sad.
thats really sad.
thats really CONSOLE GAMERS Most people who I know that play on console, hardly play any puzzle games.
thats really CONSOLE GAMERS Most people who I know that play on console, hardly play any puzzle games.
this is coming from a guy with xbox in this name
this is coming from a guy with xbox in this name
it would make sense... Considering he just said, "most people who I know that play on console, hardly play and puzzle games." gee. thanks doc.
Naw man she's too casual for those scrubs, y'see gonna make the next peggle y'all
If you're one of the people who came up with the idea behind Portal, I can understand why you'd feel like you're the one who knows what Portal 2 should be. On the other hand, if you're the person running a gaming company and you've done it very successfully, I can understand how you'd feel like you're qualified to judge other people's ideas. Thus, one must leave over these creative differences.
Yep, she left Valve back in 2009 during the development of Portal 2. She's been the lead designer for Quantum Conundrum which is due to be released sometime in the next few months. I don't really understand how this game is more casual then Portal (aside from the cartoony art style), the original's challenge levels were pretty hard. Portal 2 was way easy, my 8 year old sister beat it in 3 days.
portal 2 was pretty difficult at some points for me just saiyan
Just because you lot find Portal 2 easy to play doesn't mean it's easy to play for everyone else. Lots of thinking has to go into certain scenarios, she'd rather work for games that anyone can just pick up and play. Good on her for following her passion though.

I would hardly describe Portal 2 as a hardcore puzzle game.
Just as an FYI, Swift is talking about the Valve mindset, not the specific games she worked on. As someone said before, it's stuff like DOTA 2 and CS:GO she probably has in mind. And, as you know, you don't "specialize" in one specific game at Valve and never touch anything else. It's not uncommon to see your expertise be shifted into another game during crunch time. Happened with TF2, for instance, before major updates. Also happened with L4D1 at release. If Kim Swift had a problem with working on "hardcore" games during crunch times, she would probably not do well at Valve.
portal 2 was pretty difficult at some points for me just saiyan
more repetitive than difficulty tbh
Pretty crazy how this game's puzzles were so easy for everyone but me. I actually had to use a walk though on a few puzzles because they looks like they made no sense.
I was disappointed at how easy it was to figure out Portal 2 most areas of the game opted for having very few and obvious spots where you can place your portals in contrast to the first Portal where in most parts you could put your portals all over the damn place Especially in the Old Aperture, where there are literally almost always just two surfaces where portals can be placed and they stick out like sore thumbs, meaning it's just a case of having to find those two perfectly portal sized or conveniently centered spaces I actually liked Co-Op, the fact that it needed four portals meant they could be way more complex, and therefore an actual challenge
I'd play Quantum Conundrum.
This new game is portal without the portal gun you've still got the grilles, the tubes, I'll bet they'll even have an omnipresent voice over too. uuuugh
Yea, it did resemble portal a lot but I'd still play it.
Yea, it did resemble portal a lot but I'd still play it.
ok yeah I think I got it the first time around when you said "i'd play it". what the hell is Dark void? Ima look it up. [editline]17th January 2012[/editline] looks pretty average to me. as in, it doesn't look like anything special.. Anybody play it?

Portal 2 was quite easy, only problems I had were mostly because I was blind and didn't see a panel/portal surface. For example: "How the shit am I supposed to jump there, there is nothing here that can... GODDAMMIT! There it is! Done."
Only part of portal 2 that I had a problem with was the co op, because my friend couldn't think with four portals, only with two :v:
