Nope, here for example it's rarely on a day off for any vote. Luckily polls open late enough.
Love it if it was on a holiday or weekday myself.
Well that's dumb. I'm so used to it being a Sunday I never thought of looking at other countries voting schedule.
I find it fascinating how it's the 21st century and compulsory/mandatory voting is still not a thing
Ok I know I'm half a day late on this but Australia has "mandatory" voting (you get fined for not voting) and preferential voting and the problem with that combo is that a lot of people vote lazily and only put major parties first instead of using their vote to influence the party/ies that do win. Plus some people still won't vote even if they get fined (notably younger people). In addition we vote on a weekend which definitely wouldn't work in the a place like the USA where they vote on a weekday (unless a public holiday for voting was made but good luck with that).
Not saying it's a completely bad thing, (almost) everyone voting helps prevent parties alienating and targeting groups of voters because they have to appeal to (almost) everyone to get in, but it's not a silver bullet solution.
