One of my biggest fears is to wake up with no memory of myself. Wow, that poor sod.
At least he didn't wake up on a fishing boat like this poor sod. [t]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vs6cHfFZf40/Tr1F7-IxRhI/AAAAAAAAAo8/DGz7L-j2JdY/s1600/bourne+identity.jpg[/t]
I've always wondered why people in these situations forget facts but remember perfectly how to speak english or whatever language. How does that work?

There are different parts of the brain for different functions. Language is kept in a separate area from motor functions which is kept in a different area from other types of memory.
Indeed. The left hemisphere controls language. There's a part called Broca's Area, which is located in the left frontal gyrus. This place controls the way we speak. If there's a lesion in that area the patient will have trouble saying certain words, or even speak at all. There's also Wernicke's area (placed in a posterior section of the superior temporal gyrus) related to understanding speech and words. Wow, that poor sod.
I can top that. Imagine if you can't produce any new memories at all? You get stuck in the "present" time, but even then, it bears no real worth. It's like being constantly woken up from deep slumber, in a place you've never been before, surrounded by people you've never seen. Even if it might be your own house and good old friends looking after you. The difference from alzheimers is that you are still fully mentally and physically capable.
There are different parts of the brain for different functions. He seems to understand football, and he knew it was a good idea to go to a police station.
I actually know why this happens to some people but I'm not allowed to say. (It's not the government or some super secret conspiracy!).
2 edgy for me
That must be so weird waking up and realising you don't know who you are
it's like being born but older
See, if this was true he would probably end up more like this here teddy bear:
His family found him this morning
Aw, that's good to hear.
1. His name is unknown: referred to as "Steve". 2. He has no context of who he is. 3. Life before this, nonmemorable. Conclusion:
So did he start to get his memory back after they found him?
More creepy than the woman who woke up with a completely different accent.
The older woman who woke up with a British accent or the younger woman who woke up speaking German (iirc she was a german language student at the time of her accident)?
I actually know why this happens to some people but I'm not allowed to say. (It's not the government or some super secret conspiracy!). It's really sad that this has happened to him at such a late age though it usually happens to people in their 20's or possibly early 30's. All those life lessons he's learned are lost.
WOW! you know something i don't and you're not allowed to tell me. You are now interesting. ^^
The Hangover part 3?
The older woman who woke up with a British accent or the younger woman who woke up speaking German (iirc she was a german language student at the time of her accident)?
The older one who woke up sounding like she was born in Wales.
