I remember wanting to play this game really bad when I read about it in the Mickey Mouse magazine in 2003. We didn't even have an internet connection.
I played this game quite a bit some years ago and it was pretty dang fun. It's sad to see it go, but there isn't much that can be done now.
Oh. My. God. W-why...muh..wahhhhhhhhhhhh
I remember playing this with my little sister when we were kids ;( Always hate too see an mmo i played and enjoyed go down.
I have a diary somewhere that I kept when I played toontown. It is packed full of early me sketches of the game. Just ask if you want me to post it and I will try to get it onto fast threads later.
RIP my 107 laff toon "supermax"
I used to play this game, I had a purple cat named silly loopy whiskerbouncer and I fucked shit up
I haven't heard of it is that bad?
That's sad. Never played but always wanted to
Holy... I remember playing this a long time ago, it's weird to even see it shutdown. Want to try it one more time, but I forgot my account details there.
managed to recover my account from 2006, i have 430 jellybeans saved up in my house.
I'm sure there'll be a private server for it within months.
I remember when I saw ads on TV for this in 2004 I asked my parents if I could play it. They said no and that it would give the computer a virus. Fuck
[t]http://i.imgur.com/N3lRnrO.jpg[/t] My dream of sole recognition has been accomplished. Now I can rest in peace. [editline]22nd August 2013[/editline] But wow I had to jump through hoops in order to get this account back.
snip
So... I played club penguin before and it was ok not the best but got membership for some reason such as clothing and got infinite money (Don't ask it was odd) but toontown was good played it a year ago but no membership and was better than the other game. Wait pirates of the caribbean online is dead ? Noooo my friend and some other friends got voodoo shit from doing missions and forgot about it. Not trying to be mad about box's here but 2... really ? Talking about the subject here not something randumb.
PoCO is shutting down on the 19th too. inb4 club penguin does.
So who wants to meet up and wreck shit?
shutting it down in order to focus assets on club penguin
Rant is in the spoiler tags because I'm sure noone wants to hear me rant. [sp]If this is for another one of their promos for another "OOH LETS GO MOOCH OFF OF POPULAR THINGS BECAUSE MONEY IS EVERYTHING" promo, then I hope someone goes and cracks Club Penguin open like an egg, and I don't mean using teleportation devices to go and have a party in the abandoned popcorn-filled Agents HQ using fake memberships, I mean true hacking, things like unbanning nefarious griefers and giving them admin powers, editing the terrain to show an earthquake, jumpscares in shops, that sort of hacking, because if Club Penguin decides to exterminate MMO's for it's money, then it can go to hell for all I care. Walt wasn't in it for the money and Disney shouldn't be either.[/sp] Welp, that marks another thing that I like that's ending/ been recently ended, including 2 certain magazines (one I can never hope to read because it's in Japan and it's frankly a tad childish and the other one's Nintendo Power)
I used to watch my friend play this. He managed to rig a fucking tv in front of his bathtub or something like that in his ingame home, and he found a way to put carpets on walls, so he could create pseudo stairs that led up to the ceiling where no one was meant to go.
Now we'll never see the Cog's home... Oh well. I hope they at least say the Toons won or something, instead of just leaving it as a cliff hanger.
managed to recover my account from 2006, i have 430 jellybeans saved up in my house.
Helpful Tip: Type in sweet in the Options & Code section of the Shticker Book. Have fun buying everything! As sad as this game going away is, it's pretty nice what they're doing for the last month of the game.
I'm sure there'll be a private server for it within months.
Doubt it.
Now we'll never see the Cog's home... Oh well. [editline]August 22th, 2013[/editline]
Why are you getting this angry over a penguin MMO?
Tbh, Club Penguin is awful.
Well, my old character is still around. So I'll be playing this last month if anyone wants to hook up and form some sort of group.
In case you're wondering they're shutting it down in order to focus assets on club penguin which is the other Disney MMO (which has become far more popular).
I played Club Penguin once before it was even Club Penguin (I think it was just called Penguin Chatroom?) It was just this random flash game on this dude's site - I thought it was amazing at the time. I think that was the first time I ever actually spoke to anyone online.
i remember some guy had made a carbon copy of my character, name (mostly) and clothing included. he would follow me around a lot, stalking me and creeping me the hell out. i would always try to get away from him and refuse his 'advances', but he would always find me somehow, no fucking idea how one day i decided to do a youtube search of my characters name + toontown, and what do you know, apparently the guy made a video of him (and me) for some weird ass reason still dont really know what the hell that was all about to this day, but good times... i guess?
My little brother plays this game, he'll probably be mad
Oh my god this fuckin game. This was pretty much the first PC game I ever played, and the first online one for sure. It was the first time I'd ever had a name for myself: An orange dog named Super Montey Megatoon. I've remembered it all these years. Then one night, I, a little ~10 year old or so, was listening to Linkin Park's In The End, and I log into Toontown only to find that my subscription had ended. Way too sad. Then I moved on to Maplestory but anyway. Shit. Totally gonna try and log into my old account, just for kicks. I remember how awesome the Cog HQ fights felt. Like they were just so awesome, you go through the whole building and shit and then fight a giant boss with your companions. Especially as a kid, that just felt badass.
i spent my childhood on this game to max my lovely duck queen. you will be missed... goodbye queen duck 2001-2013. thanks for eating my parents money.
Why does that sound so familiar? I mean I guess Queen wouldn't have been such an unpopular name but I don't remember how the names in this game worked, would it have been possible for two people to have that name? Just really, a purple duck named Queen seems so familiar.
i have so many stories about this fuckin' game before the days of skype, me and my friend who played this game with me would talk secretly on the house phone for like, 3 hours at a time playing toontown. I thought I was like the glitch king or whatever because i did that wardrobe glitch where you could escape the map and just walk around in what we called the "nothingness". I moved all my furniture in there so i just had an empty house, a backwards wardrobe which would be my portal into our secret world. That shit was fucking awesome. Also, what were those pets you could get? They looked like jellybeans, I swear I had one called Taffy or something. I don't even fucking know what Taffy is. I don't even want to google it, simply to maintain my childhood ignorance.
