Good job valve. You have offically ran tf2 into the ground. Repeatly.
hey guys you don't have to buy them
Good job valve. You have offically ran tf2 into the ground. Repeatly.
You wish, this game is still very successful and fun and because 5% of it's players whine about art style and hats doesn't mean anything.
Why don't they just make the game about Hats, that's all they seem to focus on. Valve just stop it.
deal w/ it
Also, they added new weapons, so I don't see why you're complaining about new hats.
more Exclusive hats?

I've been waiting for Shogun 2 since I was still on Dialup, this didn't change how much I want the game.
I turned off the chat since I don't use it, and so that I won't see all the trade requests.
I ignore the hats in-game. They are fun to have, but don't interest me that much.
I play the game, and enjoy it. What's so difficult about this?
i can't fucking agree much harder.

The hats are droppable too.
[editline]12th March 2011[/editline]
Should I buy this? I tried the demo and I sort of liked it, not sure if the full version will be worth the price.

never played a total war game before
For fucks sake Valve.
You used to be good. Then Left 4 Dead came along, followed by excessive updating of TF2, and Valve started to become a mini-EA in terms of bullshit.

you say excessive updating like it's a bad thing
The game still plays the same to me. I don't get how hats can actually make the gameplay "less fun". Soldiers still shoot rockets, pyros still throw fire. The gameplay is still the same, only slightly modified by certain weapons that make you walk a bit faster, or reload quicker, or lose more health. Hats have in NO WAY somehow broke the gameplay or made it less fun.
I don't like these shitloads of hats and weapons either, but only because the majority of them don't fit with the TF2 theme, and a lot of the new weapons/hats just aren't very creative at all. Even then, it makes absolutely no sense when someone says "omg they added a new hat! Now the game is unplayable!"
He fails to mention that you can also find them or craft them.
this is p funny because there is a huge amount of items in TF2 and finding one of 8 shogun items (don't forget about the hat rarity) is pure luck
and there are no recipes for these items - you need two tokens and scrap for a small chance of getting that stuff
and to get everything you need for that small chance you need 8 (or 9) items, and that's one week worth of drops

The reason why I believe mann-conomy was added was because of trading. If you offer players a legitimate way of purchasing items, they have much less reason to use the "black market" - plus they'd have to get people to just keep an eye out on people who would sell items for real money. And there is absolutely no doubt that it would exist.
As for the crates, I still think they are a bit of a dick move, especially since there's no other way of using them. Perhaps allowing smelting of crates to return metal (perhaps smelting 3 crates with a random quality metal?) would make them more useful to actual key buyers and rarer. Oh and the first few equipment packs or whatever they're called, that require hats.
As for promotional items: In this case, they offered to just give them if players buy the game. For the people that would buy those items I suppose it's cheaper to just buy the game. Most of those items are either purely esthetic or pretty much reskins of existing items. If not, they are droppable and craftable.
While I don't entirely agree with what they do, I can see why they do it.

I have to agree with you, it was also one of the problems with the Polycount and Christmas crafting recipes. It was almost impossible to get all those items unless you were really lucky, bought them from the store, payed the extremely expensive crafting price, or spent loads of time going around trading.
Not to mention with more weapons being added, the chance of finding the weapon you want becomes even lower.
Why does every new update about tf2 descend into "TF2 KILled my faimly!!!" vs "SHUT uP guys it is still grate!!"
You don't have to talk about how horrible it is at every chance or defend it always. Insulting isn't going to make you look "so cool edgy~~" and you don't have to defend Robin Walker, I can pretty much guarantee that he doesn't care that people don't like hats.

If you think that a class is instantly unrecognizable because of a few extra polygons on his head, you're either stupid, overly dramatic, or need to have your vision checked.

of course it still plays the same, but some people see more in a game than just how it feels.

That's not the point.
Valve set out to make each and every class have their own distinct shape and silhouette and true the hats don't interfere too much it's like saying "Fuck you" to all of their previous hard work.

the point should be are the classes recognizable or not
they obviously are
any other point is completely irrelevant

I suppose this fuckin crap shouldn't surprise me anymore
I uninstalled my TF2 because I was tired of having to update every damn time I logged in. I used to play it a lot, and then the Mann-Conomy came in. I thought "Oh cool, they're adding an in-game money system!"
"Steam wallet?" "real money?"
Fuck. That. Shit.
We need a new HAT rating on the forums.
We need a new HAT rating on the forums.
Replace the dumb rating icon with a small picture of a TF2 hat.

How exactly? Because the classes look slightly different?
who gives a damn they're just hats.

That's why there are hats and not clown suits. I could give you a sillhoutte of any class wearing any hat and you'd be able to recognise them still.

If it is patching a bug, i have no issues. If it is a update like everyday ... almost, Hopefully that can keep it too weekly updates.
Update 2301. Adding someshit (3.2Gb)
Update 2302. Removing that someshit as it f***ed with the game (2.4 GB)
Update 2303. Adding some of the someshit in an effort no too make the game f***ed, just different. ( 3.6gb)
Sometimes i want to play tf2 without waiting for it too update and once it has i have moved onto something else

The reason I think TF2 became practically 'unplayable' is because, to me, it seems that it has lost the cosmetic and creative appeal it used to have when it first came out. True, these are only minor updates, but TF2 now just doesn't feel like the TF2 is used to be. I remember when playing the game was relatively simple, but whenever I launch the game now I unconsciously feel anxious about the new things I have been unable to keep up with. The original game had an intrinsic appeal to me, but with coming each update, it only seems to depart further from it's roots.
