I disagree. Being an asshole makes you an asshole, wishing you could do something that would make you an asshole but not doing it because you don't want to be an asshole, does to me not make you an asshole. Wanting to do something is not the same thing as actually doing it.
You know you said something stupid when you're arguing semantics of what makes someone an asshole.

So, would you then agree with me that you're an asshole if I called you an asshole by what I personally would define as one?

nuh I agree with you bro. As long as I don't act out threats I'm golden. :~)

Well I do sort of see your point, and neither of us are going to concede, so how does this sound?
I'll be considerate of motorists when I'm riding (as I have been), and you be considerate of cyclists obeying the law and showing common sense and respect to motorists, and we call it quits?
Sorry bout the dumb rating, you're cool <3

Alright, truce :v:
The reason most people in the Netherlands hate cyclists doesn't really have anything to do with the vehicle. Almost everyone in the Netherlands owns a bicycle.
The problem is that the people that use bicycles the most are generally young boys and girls that do not yet own a drivers license. Because they don't drive a car, they have no idea how limited your perception is as a driver. How you don't hear people coming from behind, how you have dead angles where it's hard to see other traffic, how you move a lot faster than you're normally used to and your controls are more complicated than simply yanking your steering wheel left or right.
So you have these kids, riding around with either headsets/earplugs on, or chatting away on their mobile phones, as they weave in and out of traffic, ignoring traffic lights and just crossing roads without signaling. They can really scare the shit out of you. And if you ever get in an accident with one, you're fucked, because insurance companies always gives the benefit of the doubt to cyclists.
You guys are the ones making claims that drivers are more likely to be assholes than the apparently saintlike nature of every person who ever owned a bike, I returned the opinion with my own. I'm not making any more outrageous claims than you are. You're presenting your opinions of drivers based on your life experiences, I present my opinions of cyclists based on my life experiences. Both sides have made claims, no side has presented proof. So fucking stop with these hypocritical accusations.

Right back at you.
I treat other people in traffic with respect, and in return cyclists and drivers alike are still massive fucking assholes. You all assumed I'm an asshole and spam me with dumb ratings, and since it is in my nature to always return the way I am treated in the same manner, this is what you get.
You're just too stupid to post anymore, you are more likely to get an asshole of a car driver than a cyclist.
A LOT of brain dead morons manage to get licenses for cars. Why do you think insurance is so high for new, young drivers?
There are thousands of cases of asshole drivers. Boy racers, drunk drivers, drivers falling asleep at the wheel, idiotic drivers that think they own the road, drivers that have no idea how lanes/road markings work, drivers that don't care for the speed limit. I can go on and on about asshole drivers.
Stop being so pretentious and thinking you're above the rest because you've got a perfect driving record.

I agree that there are more dangerous drivers than dangerous cyclists, I don't agree that there's more asshole drivers than asshole cyclists. The reason insurance is higher for young drivers is the same reason many countries have laws requiring people below a certain age to wear a helmet while riding a bike. People who ride bikes also don't have a 2 year trial period where they can lose their driving license for any offense they make, driving a car is something that demands a lot of responsibility because both the consequences and the punishments for irresponsible behavior are much more severe. Maybe "any brain dead moron can manage to get a license", but any brain dead moron will not be able to keep it.

Not sure if you'll find it interesting but War on Britain's Roads was a fairly interesting documentary
Some of the people who took that part in that Documentary (both pro and anti cycling) both said they felt that their interviews had been edited to the point it portrayed them in a different way than they had intended ie it was cut and shut to make them look different.
See living in Stafford we didn't have this problem. All the cyclists would stay out of the bike lanes and then ride on the pavement or in pedestrianised areas.
I know it's wrong but every time some dickhead on a bike whips past me a couple of inches away at some stupid speed I sort of hope something happens to them immediately afterwards. Once it did when the guy managed to lose control of his bike and crash, which was pretty funny.
But yeah don't run over cyclists and certainly don't tweet about it.
I see stuff like that every day but it doesn't mean they deserve to be hit and you shouldn't try and justify somebody gloating about injuring someone.
I never did
...but yeah, this woman definitely took things to far. It's one thing to wish to harm someone, and a completely different thing to actually act on your urges.
It kinda seems like a lot of people missed this part of my original post
Gotta admit if the accident is the cyclists fault I'd be pretty pissed off. Also last year a cyclist dropped his bike on my dads car at the traffic lights. Broke the automatic wing mirror costing over 100 to repair.
The cyclist rode off to escape justice, knowing he had scratched and damaged at least 1 car.
I got very little empthy for cylists after that.
I wouldn't have cared in the slightest if that asshole got hit, infact it'd feel like justice.
FYI no one called drivers in general arseholes until you started making posts about squishing people into a paste.
There's bad cyclists and there's good cyclists.
Remember that there's shitty people everywhere, and you shouldn't generalize an entire group of people based upon a few bad seeds.
Not sure where cyclists fit in on US roads. In most of the area where I am biking, there is no shoulder/bike lane or even a crosswalk. When I'm biking I try to stay as far to the edge as the road as possible without being off the road. What screws me up is car drivers not following their rules, making turning left at a fork on a bicycle near impossible.
