You get different kinds of information on your dashboard, those ads usually inform you about new games, demos, dlc, trailers or sales. I don't get what the big deal is, it's even very informative at times. Steam does the exact same thing, although whenever you close a game you get prompted with some advertisement.
I turn off the adds for steam because it's obnoxious and I don't care. I've also never even seen the advertisement when closing a game that wasn't a demo. Is this associated with free to play or something?
It's not going to confuse people that much. It's a baffling name for a new console as it sounds like they're trying to reboot the console brand (which is dumb), but you'd have to be really dumb to confuse a heavily advertised next gen console for its considerably cheaper and likely harder to find 6th gen predecessor. Confusing it and the 360 is more likely to happen.
Honestly, I think that the worst that will happen will be that a parent will think the 360 version is better and get it for their poor child. BTW, here's what I said about these kinds of "leaks," in the NN thread-
While I don't put too much credit into, "anonymous sources," I can't help but feel that this kind of information is either adding up or being regurgitated. Either way, Microsoft needs that press conference sooner rather than later before people get too ravenous (sic).
I don't play free to play games anyway. Nevertheless I still don't get why people complain about the "ads" on your dashboard. They don't even interfere whenever you move around. Actually you only need to push one button to start your game. Always when I read about those complains it's about people who don't even own a xbox or try to degrade an xbox with silly arguments. [editline]9th April 2013[/editline]
you can disable this in the settings
Thank you very much, I never knew that.
this is pretty awesome. now i guess i know what console i'm getting in the next console war now.
Even if it turns out not to be always online; you could probably do with not trusting Microsoft.
You people spent almost 9 pages arguing about a fucking console? Either you buy it or you don't. That's the issue. There are tons of other things that can be arguable, but have alternatives. This is one of those things.
The reason of the arguing is that people on Facepunch like to hate on Xbox for some reason, I never knew why. Xbox has its faults, so does PS3. I mean, microsoft hasn't even made an official announcement and people instantly assume the Xbox is crap from unverified claims, haven't we learned anything from the PS4? We thought it wouldn't play used games and look where that got us. I think we should wait for the announcement before any decisions. I also love how most of the people are rating me dumb without providing argument, honestly Xbox does have its faults but so does PS3. Stop acting like sheep towards PS3 like you did with Xbox many years ago, look at the facts instead of seeing what you want to see. I am not rooting for Xbox here nor PS3, but it seems a lot of people here think opinion is fact.

That, and some people on facepunch were for some reason extremely alienated when microsoft said they wanted the xbox to be a media device as well as a gaming device, like that somehow is a bad thing. The thread about it was hilarious :v: But if any of these rumours do turn out to be true, they've certainly lost me as a customer - I can barely get a connection anywhere near my xbox so I certainly wouldn't be able to play always online games with it.

Just plain old, straight forward games. No bullshit. If you think there is no such thing as this so called "real gamer", then you are blind though. I hate the name "real gamer", but the term is real and the lines are not very blurred between casual players who couldn't give two shits about bad practices in the videogame industry, and people who have real passion for videogames of all kinds. I feel that sony realizes this and wants to cut a lot of the bullshit out and just get back to games like it used to be.

I meant in the sense that everyday devices are. Such as the xbox is always connected even in a low power state so that you can wake it up and its already connected.

Microsoft is totally worse!

Facepunch used to say the 360 was the best console and that the PS3 would fail. But over time it changed to what we have now.
Didn't care before, still don't care. It's going to tank, I'm happy here with my PC
"Shit, my internet has gone down. It's okay, though, I'll just play on the xbox for a bit instead." "...oh"
Be fucking hilarious if you couldn't even watch local movies on it when it isn't connected.

This is in addition to Microsofts Creative Director's tweets... calling the claims "unverified" is quite a stretch.

But on the standpoint about looking towards the future in terms of where the videogame industry is headed, so far Sony seems a lot more beneficial to people who care about the future of the medium in terms of it's quality. I just feel that this microsoft always online, advertisement, dudebro gamer oriented, required subscription service BULLSHIT is bad for games. And I really really like video games, they stand for more than just a simple-minded entertainment service to me. Sony presented this new direction where they care about the games, the indie developers, the free service, the easier to develop on hardware. Sure Sony is still a cooperation interested in money and that is what it comes down to always, but at least they are showing a lot more signs of purity than microsoft is right now.

Sony has a much worse track record with indie games, in case you didn't notice the raiding the homes of PS3 homebrew developers bit. Microsoft may do some shady things once in a while, but while most of Microsoft's nonsense is just proprietary software, Sony has done some really horrifying things. Ultimately the home of indie gaming will always be the PC, because anyone can make anything and release it basically without restriction to the rest of the world - if you cared about the state of gaming Sony is the last company you'd be supporting.
I have confirmed not to buy the next gen XBOX. I am now going to use my money to buy the PS4 and the Wii U. So fuck halo 5. I'll just watch a lets play of the game just to see the story and ending.
They're revealing it on my birthday! Also a Tuesday.
Somewhat relevant.

I bet you microsoft would do the same dumb shit if their security got exposed and somebody accessed a high level of security. I prefer a console that I don't have to have online always connected, and that I have to pay a subscription every month just to get at least get bare minimum features that should be free. I agree that both companies are fuck asses, like I said im not glorifying sony, I don't like what they did either, but sony is showing a lot more signs of fixing their errors than Microsoft. Sony seems to be reworking itself, they are talking about plans to support a lot more indie developers next year on the ps4, when they presented the console it was about games first, just shit like that. How much do you want to bet that when the new Xbox is officially revealed it's going to be about the brand new kinect, or the new ways to talk to friends on facebook, or the next call of duty game? Shit that gamers who care about games don't give a fuck about. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it leaves an atmosphere of something is going wrong in videogames. The things sony have done are bad on a business perspective and a technological perspective, Microsoft is a whole shit ton less subtle that they don't care about or the quality of the games and they are just plain out pandering to the crowd who don't give a fuck about if they have to pay $20 for terrible DLC, or the new Kinect, or if Madden is exclusive. We will have to still see who does better for the gamer, but I am still going to oppose Microsoft more than sony if these rumors come into fruition.

I think you're confusing gamers with sociopaths. You realize you can both be passionate about gaming and have friends and enjoy socializing with them right? A console with even half the power of the 360 should have no problem having an available facebook app for whatever reason, it's not like it'd have to interfere with gameplay. Almost all the shit people complain about when they say that microsoft are "taking away from the gaming experience" has literally nothing to do with gameplay, and is just optional shit hidden in your dashboard menu. In any case, your entire post needs a whole massive [citation needed] slapped on it - you keep saying that sony is fixing x, or trying to do y - but it's all opinions and speculation and I'm not going to base my opinion of a company on something that hasn't happened yet. If the next xbox has always online drm, then fuck'em - but I'm not going to judge them based on speculation by analysts, nor am I going to give sony the benefit of a doubt when they have done nothing that could possibly make up for the shit they've pulled. I'll agree that xbox live costing money is dumb but ultimately it's held up way better than sony's services so I can't really give the prize for least awful online service one way or the other.

Look at the two things I bolded - once again they are speculation and personal feelings, nothing about the xbox has been confirmed and sony are still assholes. I respect your right to an opinion but opinions are not necessarily credible or reasonable and do not hold up in argument.
I usually play video game consoles when my internet is down since one time it was out for a whole day and I played Video Games all day long. So this is a terrible idea of it being always online.

Logical argument or not, things are looking grim for the video game industry and Microsoft is not helping. From what I have observed sony are shitlords yes but at least they are implying to be against BS ideas mentioned in this Xbox speculation. I could be fooled in the future though. This is the reason why a lot of us are against microsoft at the moment, it's all I am trying to say despite my other cynical tired rants mixed in with my previous posts.

Go watch the PS4 reveal to know that it's all about the games, indie developers, and being social. And Sony made amendments when their servers were breached by giving out free games and fixing the security hole. Oh did I forget to mention how they also apologized and shut down access to psn to fix the hole so no more damage could be done? You're also full on shitting yourself by saying xbox live has held up better than playstation plus.
