You can pre-order it in 14 hours basically reserving your slot, and actually pay when it ships.
Part of me feels like that will be abused to shit, but it's typical to see 10% of any pre-order reserved product to pop up on ebay.

he said there'll be no limit to preorders and that if they exhaust the stock they'll just have later shipping dates for later preorders, so it should be fine.
i'll probably attempt to reserve my slot and sleep on it to see if I can wait till my birthday to get more money, I've gotten around 350 canadian dollars so hopefully it's not over 400 US dollars.
so are they just going to sell through their site or through retailers like amazon and best buy
Preorders are through their site only, but it's quite likely they'll also be in stores on the release date
so are they just going to sell through their site or through retailers like amazon and best buy
Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Costco, TJ Maxx, Walgreens...
[editline]5th January 2016[/editline]
They'll sell it at Costco in bulk.
Reading this thread I feel like I'm the only one super excited for this. It's fucking virtual reality.

People need to try the consumer version to "get it". Most haven't, so they don't care as much. It's one of the biggest challenges in making VR mainstream.

I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been more PR for it. I'd expect to see them in malls and gamestops and what not for people to try out.

Yeah, honestly! The Wii was like, the last major innovator for gaming input (Whether you like Wii or not, it was a big deal when it came out), and they made sure to put displays in any store that would take them so people could see for themselves how cool the motion controls were. They should really do that for VR, even if its only a Cardboard display, VR is so amazing to experience.
I might pass on the pre-order and wait until the vive comes out to compare.

I've only seen one set up for people to test out, and it wasn't really Occulus doing it, it was one of those companies that makes treadmill controllers.

Gamestop wants money though. They aren't going to display something that you have to order from someone else. (Especially since Gamestop has pretty much exited the PC gaming market. I'm sure once they become available retail or consoles come out with their own VR peripherals, Gamestop will display them.
Also, list of countries the Rift will be shipping to:
Well, I guess that solves my question if I should preorder it or not.
I guess I'll buy it when it actually takes off (If it actually does) and if they eventually choose to ship to my country.
I was so close to being able to try out the dev kit 2 as a student in second semester has one on his desk ;_; but he was gone for the day.

Woo!! I was hoping it'd be like Amazon pre-orders when they charge you as it ships, which it is.
Planning to buy it on my credit card, but save up the cash in the meantime so if I only have 70% of the cash on release, least gives me the time to pay off rest.
6h 38mins to go.
Just over 30 minutes left! Come hype in our new thread and the chatroom of our spanking new Steam group.

$600. Twice their kickstarter price and in USD.
aaaaaaaaaaa.
Almost $1000 Canadian :\
lol 560€ nope
Fuck that.
I can buy several next gen Consoles with that Price.
Yeah, that 600 dollar price tag puts it way above my paygrade. Guess I will wait and see what the competition has to offer.
That's not to say the price is unfair or anything, I'm sure that they have done their best to really squeze the price while making a quality product, but I mean, this isin't gonna be the "everyman" VR revolution headset that I initially hoped for with such a steep price. This is purely for hobbyists.
Oh hell, that price is without taxes and shipping to Europe... with that, it's flipping 700 euros! Jesus, that's the price of a new value PC...
Maybe it will be lower once the actual headset is released to retailers around the world? Faint hope, but hey, it's a hope regardless.
$600 and wont even have a VR capable controller for months. RIP.
Fucking hell do they really expect people to buy a device like this at almost double the price of a console
How about they take out the shitty games, shitty controller and just give me the headset and occulus controller. Fucking $600 lol

quite the price

Add shipping and taxes, and it's a cool 700 euros, atleast to where I live.
Fucking hell do they really expect people to buy a device like this at almost double the price of a console
Yeah this price + a good PC is too much money to bring VR into the mainstream. I wont be surprised if Sony will have a PS4 + PSVR bundle for the price of this headset.
I knew it was going to be expensive, but £500 is mental. I would have probably gone as high as £300-350. For something that is just the headset + tracking, and an xbox one controller that is insane.
