I never seen a Costco store here in Louisville, Kentucky, however after hearing about Wholesales, i think of "Sam's Club" which is you buy in bulks. Edit: now after looking up the word of "wholesales", I was wrong... it's like Wal-Mart in a way...
Hey you balding asshole. I don't admire you permabanning me from your stores for life. Give me my fucking job back and fire the mexican who took my position.
Explain further.
My last job i had for 5 months pay me 8 bucks an hour just prep trucks at Line-X. To have 10 bucks a month or 12 bucks in fact will be awesome and i could easily get a car & Driver's License/Driver's School in a matter of weeks.

Sam's Club is owned by Wal-Mart, pretty much, and wholesale means you buy a fuckload of items for a low price. Wal-Mart is quite the opposite.
Waitresses make like 2 or 3 dollars an hour.
Plus tips. And if that doesn't make minimum wage, the employer is legally obligated to pay the difference up to minimum wage.
I will repeat what I said earlier to show you how wrong you are
and instead of having an 8% unemployment rate we can have an 80% one

Source that for me. You're giving me a percentage figure without explaining why the US would have a 80% unemployment rate. If anything, studies have shown that a raise in minimum wage have very little effect on unemployment rates overall.
also you seem to think that $16.50 in 1960s is akin to $16.50 today
No, I do not think that at all. The US minimum wage in 1968 was $1.60, which (after adjusting for inflation) would be over $10 today. However, the cost of living has also raised a considerable amount since 1968 (after inflation), and the minimum wage should rise in proportion to the cost of living. As it stands, the minimum wage has not been adequately raised for inflation or cost of living.
big jump to 10 would be bad, raise it in increments if it must be raised. i.e 8->8.50->9.00
Source that for me. You're giving me a percentage figure without explaining why the US would have a 80% unemployment rate. Obviously the 80% unemployment rate was an exaggeration but we would definitely see a significant raise in unemployment if the minimum wage was spiked as high as $20. Perhaps even going into the double digits. I agree with you, however, that minimum wage hasn't been adjusted efficiently at all for both inflation and today's prices and that we definitely require a minimum wage hike. 20 dollars is a bit too extreme imo.
It's a warehouse-style big box store where everything is purchased in bulk packages.
So you mean like Sam's?
This isn't really Costco being generous - they already pay their workers more than minimum wage but they know their main competition, Walmart, doesn't. Costco can handle paying their workers more because their business model is totally different than Walmart's race to the bottom. A raise in minimum wage wouldn't hurt them at all, but it would hurt the other guys. They're still a better company than Walmart by a long shot but this is purely a business move
Minimum wage in Alberta is about $10, even for part time workers. I can't believe some people in the USA live off of $7 wages
They dont, im making a little over minimum wage because i work late at night, but its only about 175$ a week due to corperations cutting hours to slide under the healthcare bill. Its extremely brutal money wise and i would be completely fucked if i lived at my own place.

Its extremely brutal money wise and i would be completely fucked if i lived at my own place.
It's possible to "live" on minimum wage if you work yourself to death 40+ hours a week. I wouldn't really call that living, more like wage slavery. I make $7.40 an hour (0.15c of it is "pity" pay from being a former projectionist, everyone else gets 7.25.) I used to get 30 hours a week, which was around $800 a month. That was livable since I live at home and split the bills, but there's no way I would be able to afford my own place. When my boss got wind of the healthcare act, everyone's hours were cut down so I barely get half that. All he's concerned about is profit and is running his business into the ground. The building is 14 years old, has never had any renovations and is basically falling apart. he doesn't put any money into it and wonders why he's losing money hand over fist for having nearly nil customers.
Some people in Slovakia have to live off 1,80€/hr.
Watch as contract positions begin to increase, the standard of a job will change along with this economy.
I've worked at walmart for 8 months now as it was the only place that would accept me. Most of the employees are living in a state of wage slavery, barely supporting themselves. I know a few who are even homeless! I'm just lucky I don't have much living expenses since I still live with family. But god... all I can do to not be overcome with disgust/anger about how the business is run is to work hard enough that I don't think about anything. Employees try to stay optimistic with conversations along the lines of 'at least I'm still breathing'. That's not living. I have to stop before I get depressed. Already am. Dah...
I work two jobs: one at $8.75 an hour and the other at the AZ minimum wage of $7.85 per hour. Between the two, working 48-56 hours a week, I don't make enough to live independently. I'm sure that this is not at all unique either.
When my friend from Denmark was staying with me a few summers ago, I brought him to the Costco that had just moved into the mall near my house. We walked in and his mouth was wide open. After about 2 minutes all he manged to get out was something about his village not even being that big. Made me laugh. Anyway, fun fact: Costco is the world's largest wine retailer.
Don't waitresses make most of their money from tips?
They are supposed too, does not mean that every restaurant follows that. Mine surely doesn't. Restaurants are supposed to pay the difference for the week if you made less than someone making minimum wage. Mine does not do that.
As long as the cost of living stays exactly where it is... then I'm all for an increased minimum wage. Unfortunately thats what seems to accompany an increase, things get more expensive and as a result it completely negates the point of raising the wage in the first place.

Everything has gone up in price by a lot. Hell I make $8 an hour working part time while going to college. I make around $120-40 a week and just to fill my car takes $60 or so. If I was not living with my parents I would not be able to survive.

Wouldn't some businesses just cut jobs so they don't have to dole out more money? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct1Moeaa-W8
Or the state labor board.
Or both.
Danish minimum wage is 103 kroner pr. hour, ca 17$ :V
10$/hour to tell you love people
Have you ever seen what the 100% employment policy did to the SSSR?
Increase wages > more money spent freely instead of saved > more money gained with little rise in expenditure for companies. But it only works if everyone ups the wages.
Even if they raise it to $10.10 an hour minimum wage in Ontario is still $0.15 higher. Suck it amuka. [sp]Jk I love America <3[/sp]
We have Costco here in the UK. I didn't believe in its magic until I saw someone stumble through the front door with like 80 rashers of bacon.
Have you seen the food court man? HAVE YOU SEEN THE GLORY THAT IS THEIR HOT DOGS?
I've been planning on applying for Asst. Manager or a mid range position at Costco. I currently make 9$ an hour playing Bf3 and watching Anime at a froyo shop with ~20 customers for the whole day. I love doing nothing at work, but the extra money is worth it at Costco and the are actually very sane. They expect you to work, but they aren't as harsh as many jobs of its type even with the higher pay. I think their culture is focused on rewarding those who work hard and excel. Every one of them has a leaderboard for the fastest register clerk and I can only guess that person receives some type of compensation.
