And we love reading comments from people trying to feel superior to others. Either contribute to the thread or don't bother posting at all.
Personally, I can't justify using chemical weapons on them. Diplomacy certainly isn't an option, but I don't think all-out war between western powers and DAESH would be wise considering how ballsy Russia has been lately.
its incredibly childish that people actually insist on saying DAESH as if it even mattered

ignorant of the topic or not, any idiot can figure out why chemical weapons are not fucking ok, and why only a psychopath would actually support the idea of using it, even if it IS isis or not.
its incredibly childish that people actually insist on saying DAESH as if it even mattered
they said they'd cut the tongue out of anyone who called them DAESH, so it doesn't matter, but it's nice to at least try and spite them (somehow)
As much as some people will hate it, maybe it's time we turned to chemical weapons? They could be dropped on historical sites and not damage them (or not much at least).
is this a legitimate suggestion?
Generally ancient cities and stuff are used for tourism or research
It's kinda hard to research when you can't get into the place without wearing heavy obstructive protective gear

yeah i'm well aware and it's childish and self-gratifying to imagine that anyone's choice of words here makes any difference whatsoever

We could always drop the gay bomb. Why fight them with hate, when we could fight them with love?
I don't get why people always bring up agent orange. It was a herbicide that had a side effect of giving people cancer and give their kids birth defects, which pretty much made it useless as chemical weapon unless you intend to be fighting someone for 20 years.
If memory serves the only reason it even wound up being dangerous was because they were mass producing it, which resulted in the formula being slightly messed up and introducing some dangerous components.
I'm going to assume this is a sarcastic comment...
I wonder if Iraq's Sunnis are thinking about what this is going to cost them in tourism revenue further down the line. Granted, nobody has probably taken a vacation to Iraq since 2003, but that's still potential revenue they're losing out on.
When you blow up the big damn thing, suddenly people don't want to come and spend money to see the big damn thing. Other extremist groups have done similar things and faced backlash because they destroyed the locals' tourist income.
He makes an interesting case. Some chemical weapons leave a nasty nasty film over surfaces that can be removed with the right equipment, but will remain extremely dangerous for some time on its own. If you were to gas sites that are not occupied and then clearly mark them as being dangerous, you might manage to preserve the sites and harm very few people.
Personally I think it is too risky because the gas can drift and it can seep into the ground water, etc etc. Too many variables to account for and the price for any of them not going your way are civilian casualties.
Much more controllable would be air deployed anti personnel mines. Set them to diffuse in a month (longer if possible, though I think American ones max out at like a week or something) and then blanket the area. Clearly identify the region as being mined. Modern AP mines can only detonate with an electric charge, and self destruct after a period of time automatically. The chances of residual mines killing civilians would be very small, and the mines might be sufficiently annoying so as to keep DAESH from bothering with a deserted city. They are air deployed, so a couple of Blackhawks with Volcano mine systems could drop enough in a matter of minutes.
Seems like a good way to deny access, not kill anyone, and have minimal lasting damage for minimal cost.

Wow so brave! please stay safe!, lmfao context matters btw, DAESH is insulting to them when a country, it's political leaders and it's military are using the term because they know what it means and why it's insulting and how it constantly pushes the image of them not being any sort of an official state. If any of their local enemies call them DAESH it comes with all the negative meanings associated with it, if some random kid from the internet says it without knowing it's meaning or has no cultural understanding on why its insulting (AKA, all of us on this forum) then it means nothing.
"hurr ISIS doesn't like this word and made a threat I'm going to continue saying it and troll them XD" Even with the word change you view them the same as before so saying it is meaningless and childish, like you really think your fighting them or pissing them off by using the word? give me a break lol

All still banned by the Geneva Convention...

Who would actually do it because they think they're "Fighting them off or pissing them off" by using it. What the fuck is even the point in saying that.
People say it because they don't want to take their insane remarks seriously.
[editline]9th March 2015[/editline]
besides, why do you even care what anyone calls them? Jesus Christ, in any context, why do you care at all?

?????? Plus after Emperor Scorpius did it and said it was insulting now half of FP is using it because they think they are insulting them? like the only reason to be this persistent in using DAESH instead of ISIS would be to think you are actually bothering them. I doubt anyone would actually be this persistent for personal reasons.
besides, why do you even care what anyone calls them? Jesus Christ, in any context, why do you care at all?
Because it's said with the reason of "haha look what I called ISIS" like its childish just call them ISIS and discuss what they are doing, the little thing of thinking you are pissing them off is weird and annoying.

I don't even know what or care what Emp said, ISIS murders entire villages of people and don't even care. Why would they care about what some forum thinks about them.

hahaha oh boy look at what I called ISIS teehee I bet their pretty fucking pissed now, oh man I'm such a badass. That is exactly what I said, word for word.
I say it because I absolutely refuse to take anything they say seriously and refuse to use "Islamic State" when it comes to them. I don't care if it doesn't effect them or not, fuck them, and fuck anyone who calls them a state rather than using the common phrase. I don't want to associate them with muslims or Islam at all.
I don't care if it effects them or not, it's insulting to islam to even use the word "Islam" to refer to them, even if they are still legitimate Muslims.

do you honestly feel superior because you call them isis instead of daesh because that is very petty
yeah i definitely feel high and mighty over here using the name that is used 99% of the time when referencing them and not the super clever and subversive DAESH *looks around*
yeah i definitely feel high and mighty over here using the name that is used 99% of the time when referencing them and not the super clever and subversive DAESH *looks around*
You're right, I'm sorry for using the incorrect word
I will now call them "Islamic Shitheads" to be extra super clever and witty.
I will now laugh at my hilarious zinger name and how I totally dissed them.
"Ok, so chemical weapons are out. What about biological warfare? Does ISIS have any natural predators?"
I've got it! Let's air drops hundreds of tigers on top of the ISIS forces! The streets will run red.
And orange and black.

lol its not the incorrect word it's just painfully obvious that DAESH is basically a little self-referencing thing SH has been using to pat itself on the back for its cleverness and it's stupid

I just want to feel better about the fact that I pretty much will never be able to do anything about the fact that they're killing thousands of people and ruining the lives of even more
that's probably the biggest reason people do it, they want to think it makes a difference but obviously it doesn't, and just want to make fun of their threats by doing it so that they don't feel as awful about what they do
totally human thing to do, I don't see how it's that childish.
EDIT:
plus they have "Islam" in their name. Muslims don't deserve that connection. (I've no idea what DAESH means to be honest)

You can do something if you really want. Write a letter to your senator or congressman and ask him or her to introduce legislation to expand the fight against them or whatever. You're not helpless.
All still banned by the Geneva Convention...
Doesn't stop us from using mines.

so you're just an asshole, got it
All still banned by the Geneva Convention...
AP mines are not banned by the geneva convention.
Also the US has a specific reservation in regards to the chemical weapon protocol of the Geneva convention, we signed under the understanding that it ceases to be enforced the instant the opposing force ceases to observe the protocol.
If memory serves the only reason it even wound up being dangerous was because they were mass producing it, which resulted in the formula being slightly messed up and introducing some dangerous components.
Accidental overheating of the mixture caused the absurdly toxic TCDD to form. Everyone who made the stuff eventually switched over to a safer production method when that was discovered (until the 2 component herbicides of Agent Orange were phased out entirely), but afaik all the Agent Orange used in Vietnam was produced with that method. Doesn't help that one of the intended components is also toxic to humans, albeit vastly less so than TCDD.
Those fucking barbarians.
