true, in the UK prank calls are illegal and its even more serious if you take confidential information/impersonate a official/someone. I'm not sure about Australia though.
Well in the UK every law is based upon one pricinple.

I think the general public is really overreacting. These sort of pranks take place all the time and normally we have a good laugh at them. How were the DJ's to know that something bad would happen that may or may not have been a result of what they did? The problem, in my opinion, is that the public isn't happy unless someone can be blamed for anything bad that happens. Yeah, sure, if someone genuinely did something wrong then they should face the consequences - but sometimes we just have accept that "shit happens".
I don't blame the DJs simply because if the people at the hospital. including this nurse, were doing their job properly then the call would have been disregarded, prank or not. The DJs have the misfortune of having their prank play out much farther than anyone could have guessed would happen...unless you are that rare person who thinks "Well, assuming the people I play this prank on are incredibly stupid, what's the worst that can happen?".
An ambulance was called this morning to the King Edward VII Hospital
Am I reading that right? Also I agree with the majority of other Facepunchers. Some thing else must have gone on to push her into suicide. Whether this tipped the barrel or not is unknown.I'm fairly sure that you wouldn't lose your job over being lead onto believing that a concerned family member was on the phone. The radio hosts would have more of a chance of being arrested than anything else for impersonating as a family member of the patient.
Why would you prank call a hospital
Why would you prank call a hospital
For the same reason you would prank call anyone. Once you allow for the existence of prank calls it's not like there's an unspoken list of who can get them and who can't.
For the same reason you would prank call anyone. Once you allow for the existence of prank calls it's not like there's an unspoken list of who can get them and who can't.
Yes there is, prank calling the emergency services for example
Yes there is, prank calling the emergency services for example
You don't think emergency services has ever received a prank call?
You don't think emergency services has ever received a prank call?
You'll be fined and your phone may get cut off from emergency services if you do it too often.
In the US, prank calling 911 is a crime.
You don't think emergency services has ever received a prank call?
Yes but I don't think a radio station would have a good rep prank calling the emergency services, yet a hospital is fine
The radio station has responded
Jesus christ the comments on that are literally some of the dumbest things i've ever seen on the internet. And that's saying something.
Coming for a nursing student, she violated the privacy of clients' health information. In the US, violation can lead to loss of nursing licence and probably never getting it back and can face prosecution. I think it was even worse that the information was about a political figure. Her career would have been probably over after that ordeal.

The nurse that died, was just the switchboard operator for the day. All she did was transfer a call. There was nothing talking about suicide either. All we know is she was found unresponsive, and efforts to revive her didn't come out in her favor. Nowhere was suicide mentioned, or nor did she break HIPPA by transferring a call to a department.

I'm just saying that she did violate patient privacy as the information was publicly broadcasted.
I didn't say anything about that she commited suicide due to that. I'm just saying that she did violate patient privacy as the information was publicly broadcasted.
What information did SHE give?
What information did SHE give?
She revealed where she was, what her health status is, what treatment she is receiving, and who was there with her. Basically any information is confidential.
Well, looks like their site is being overloaded. Those hosts must feel awful.
From people sending death threats to the station no doubt.
She probably felt like if the entire world was laughing at her. Global bullying.
She revealed where she was, what her health status is, what treatment she is receiving, and who was there with her. Basically any information is confidential.
You realize the nurse that died was the nurse that ANSWERED the phone the first time, and TRANSFERRED the phone to the ward kate was on. The nurse on the ward REVEALED the information. the only thing the nurse (that died) said was "Please hold, let me transfer you" [editline]8th December 2012[/editline]
The probably felt like if the entire world was laughing at her. Global bullying.
...... Being found unresponsive =/= suicide.
In the US, prank calling 911 is a crime.
They didn't call the emergency number though, only the local hospital.
They impersonated the Queen of England (poorly) as a joke and now have to live with the guilt of possibly pushing someone to suicide. I don't feel like they deserve any worse than that.
i do its a terrible radio station
She revealed where she was, what her health status is, what treatment she is receiving, and who was there with her. Basically any information is confidential.
Yeah, no. Read the article again. Better yet, read the article, then watch the video.
So do we know if it was actually a suicide yet?
So do we know if it was actually a suicide yet?
The police are doing their usual thing, they won't call it suicide. However, its not suspicious and they are not looking for anyone involved which in my eyes means suicide. Or a very well done murder.
