Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has unveiled a series of reforms in an attempt to end days of nationwide anti-government protests.
In a televised address she said she would draft a new plan to benefit public transport and that all oil royalties would be used in education.
She also said that thousands of doctors would be drafted it from overseas to improve the national health service.
Earlier she held an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the protests.
It took protests like this to get these reforms? I wonder why a president wouldn't have proposed these earlier since she's had plenty of opportunity to before.
"I would never allow this money to come out of the taxpayers' money, harming essential areas such as health and education," she said.
As it should be.

That is pretty much the whole cause of the protest, people who have power and who should care about the country are the ones who least give a shit about the population.
I don't even live in Brazil and I don't believe a word she says.
To all the Brazilian FPers, is she full of shit or no?

From what I've heard so far, Brazilians don't like her and don't trust her. I won't speak for them though.

Thats why I ask the question. Is she a real reformer or is she just trying to appease the protesters so they get back to work. I'm currently leaning heavily to the second option.
A real reformer wouldn't have to deal with protests to get things done.

She probably realizes that lying through her teeth is better than a crack-down, a-la Erdogan/Turkey.

Pretty much everybody with power ,the media, the politicians and everything, are backing up to the side of the protesters because they have noticed they are fucked, when these protests were beginning, every one of those said that they were all vandals and punks and deserved to be jailed, now they are just backpedaling hard. But she sure as hell knows how to pick her words, as she was an agitator before, she knows what we want to hear.

It is pretty much getting into a consent over here that we all don't want her or anybody she works with near some position of power, it really doesn't matter who is power, all political parties here are the same, they all work together to keep each other in power so they can be corrupt and get away with it, there is no political ideology anymore, there is no oppositon, hell, a big magazine just did a report recently, out of the 27 political parties in the country, there isn't a single one who identifies as right-wing, it is the incredible case of the country with no right-wing and no opposition.
And guess whos full of shit again! Shes just making shit worse by that.

this is partially true, yes pretty much everyone is corrupt to varying degrees, and is fucking everyone in one way or another, but let us not go overboard, our right-wing has been fucking us WAAAAAY harder than the left, if you think there would be no difference between serra or dilma being president i don't even know what to say.
where are you getting the idea we don't have a right-wing? what the fuck do you think PSDB is?
bye bye

More full of shit than my toilet after taco night
For those interested, here's a map showing the protest concentrations over the last few days:

also, funny how she says she's investing in healthcare PT has been investing progressively less since coming to power in 2004
Wasn't the previous president better? The old guy?

dude, how can we call a party that continually fucks up with worker rights since forever, privatizes everything, and defends neo-liberal policies left and right as left-wing? :suicide:
its the same thing as republicans calling obama a socialist.
also seriously don't read veja, is awfully biased magazine.
Wasn't the previous president better? The old guy?
not much difference actually, you see our media HATES left-wing parties in general and is trying awfully hard to get a right-wing candidate in power(aecio neves to be more especific, who is currently being accused of stealing 3.5 BILLIONS from minas gerais during his term as governor).
the reason we're hearing so much about corruption now is not because it didn't happen before, but because our media is reporting it WAY more in an effort to fuck up the left-wing parties.
hence why i said, i hope people don't buy into that crap, that PSDB will save us all(lol), that right-wing policies are answer, whatever crap they'll spew next.
as fucked up as our left-wing is, they DID significantly improve the situation of our poor, they're the lesser evil.

If:
-Protects workers' rights
-Nationalizes/Doesn't Privatize
-Closes in trade to protect industry
Then:
Left Wing. Yeah, sure. My balls.
Left Wing or Right Wing isn't just what they do, it's also what they think and how they see the world.
Besides, Right Wing is an extremely broad political definition. It could include Juan Peron, a populist catholic nationalist, Adolf Hitler, a fucked up (Played around with atheists, catholics, protestants, neo-pagans, everybody) nationalist, Eduardo Menem, a neoliberal.
Its a vague term, which doesn't add anything to a discussion/debate and nowadays, with all these parties, it's has been depleted of meaning.
bye bye
LATAM politics != USA Politics.
You can fuck up many times here and you can still be in power. To give you an idea: In general, here in Argentina, we had enough watergates to kick out 10 or 11 presidents. No president has been kicked out yet.

its not really a vague term, and all those things you mentioned are in fact right-wing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_politics
let me put it better for you then, PSDB has been fucking with the our poor since forever, at every possible opportunity.
can you have a good right-wing, sure you can, too bad we don't have any, we have PSDB, PMDB and other fucked up parties instead, PMDB for instance is a legacy of our dicatorship.
PSDB wants to keep abortion forbidden, thinks gays can be cured(lol), wants to lower the age of majority to 14, there are also some loons who want the death penalty... and this is just a few "wonderful" things they want to implement.

Didn't Lula have a good administration though, which is the reason Dilma was elected? Sorry, I am little informed about Brazilian politics.

As far as I know, one of the major reasons Dilma was elected was because Lula had a major focus on the poor.
As in, he literally gave the poor money (through "Bolsa Familía") instead of opportunities at getting better education and work, so the poor went "who's this Dilma person", saw Lula going "I trust her" and then went "yay I'm gonna vote for her".
I think.
