Stupid kids ruin everything, I hate them.
It's not the kids ruining it, it's their parents.
Why wait til now? Should just leave it, no one should really give a shit.
Censoring it is a bit stupid, but they are airing it at 1930 so it's either drop the more offensive stuff, or put it on at a later time.
There would be even more of an uproar if it wasn't cut, ofcom would have a field day with the complaints
There would be even more of an uproar if it wasn't cut, ofcom would have a field day with the complaints
The show has been around for years, I don't think anyone has complained. Maybe someone finally did.
The show has been around for years, I don't think anyone has complained. Maybe someone finally did.
Is it normally aired at 7.30 though?
Is it normally aired at 7.30 though?
Since forever, I'm pretty sure. And isn't it BBC3, who even watches BBC3...
Well, it's not like the BBC have ever been known for smart decisions bound in common sense...
well they are, they just have such a good record and are so envied by the press/other networks that any gaffes are seized upon and blown way out of proportion [editline]25th January 2013[/editline]
Aren't BBC exempt from following normal TV guidelines, cause they're government owned?
nope, in fact being taxpayer funded means they're under more scrutiny than the other media corporations - it's part of the reason their quality is so high http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ofcom [editline]25th January 2013[/editline]
Stupid kids ruin everything, I hate them.
I fucking bet you're under 20. Actually fuck that, I fucking bet you're under 16. [editline]25th January 2013[/editline] Seriously, the show's a comedy classic which is why it's being aired so early. It's pretty inoffensive to modern eyes and can be appreciated by anyone because it's so good - however a joke that was acceptable to broadcast in the 1970s with the difference in the racial climate then isn't so acceptable now. It's the word 'nigger' for christ's sake, people wouldn't bat an eyelid if they censored 'fuck', why is this an issue?
Still uncensored on netflix fyi.
So, pray tell, what made racism more acceptable in the '70s versus now so that such a joke was not considered offensive or racist back then? And why then did they not cut the grotesquely offensive references to Naziism, which are horribly offensive to Germans? If it aired at 7:30 in the '70s with the word nigger it can air now at 7:30 with the word nigger, it's not any more offensive now than it was back then. This reminds me of an example I bring up to illustrate the change in "acceptable content," the Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show. That show was extremely violent, and at some points casually racist, yet it was a children's show, and because of such, parents still allow their kids to watch it and don't think twice about it. If it were to be released today, it would almost certainly be considered a "mature 14+" program at the very least. Why? There really is no good reason, other than this bullshit idea of "political correctness" and a bunch of idiocy surrounding exposing children to "cartoon violence."
If it aired at 7:30 in the '70s with the word nigger.
no it aired after the watershed i think the watershed is silly but because i think ofcom is silly, not because of some stupid cynical made up political correctness bullshit, that's just perpetuating the stupidity of the daily mail which this forum does often but whtever
