so?
SO?
The aftershocks just hit over 660 about an hour ago. From checking various quake maps, the it seems to have actually *Upset* areas North of the origin of the quake, and is slowly moving North/northwest.
Everyone here needs to be on SERIOUS ALERT on the west coast, and in the pacific Northwest, including me. I already prepared an emergency kit with about a weeks worth of supplies, if that. DO NOT PUT thoughts before your safety. If you even -think- something bad is going to happen, make sure you are as safe as possible.
I just literally shat bricks. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html
Since I do not follow a religion, for once, I will then reply with "Oh my goodness".
This is incredible. Honestly, it really is. I'm now officially scared.

Is there any proof that a shitload of aftershocks lead to a big EQ?
Is there any proof that a shitload of aftershocks lead to a big EQ?
I believe there is, but currently don't have any links, I apologize.
But look at it this way. Now WHAT IF, the dormant giant was sleeping, for hundreds of years. A big bad troll comes by his cave, pokes him, teases him, and the giant wakes up, unleashing his wrath.
What I, and apparently many other people think, is that the Mexicali quake could very well have literally awakened a sleeping, dormant giant, that was not yet ready to wake up. Obviously the USGS is hiding something, they keep pulling large aftershocks from the list, as reported by various posters on various forums. Personally, I don't think it takes a genius to figure out that the amount of aftershocks going off right now is completely abnormal. Apparently it's closing in at seven hundred, and that cannot be good for a fault line.
REALITY sucks balls! I'm going back to ignoring the news and never touching the computer again, bloody hell.
If you're right, I'm scared.
Seriously Californians, GET THE FUCK OUT NOW
Wow....there have been a very large amount of newsworthy earthquakes this year. I might just be jumping to conclusions but I feel like something really big is about to happen.

It could, but it'd be a coincidence.

And I agree! You can ask any third party, or lecturing geologist about this, and I can guarantee you they will reply with "Abnormal, weird, unseen, unheard of, ect."
Seven hundred aftershocks is -NOT- normal. IF an 8.8 could not cause that many in a month, then something is wrong here. But I need to stop talking about this, I could practically be scaring myself and people here for nothing, and I don't mean to scare anyone.

TBH you're overreacting, sorry.

Maybe a little, but you cannot deny the abnormalities that have been happening.
Seriously there is a new earthquake thread in this news forum every week, and the amount of aftershocks after this most recent is quite astonishing.
Not saying anything will happen it's just slightly wierd

It is weird, but it's all coincidental, and the recent earthquakes were all in the usual sizes, 6.0 is nothing, but it all gets coverage because of Haiti being annihilated, as such, if Haiti was never hit, most of the earthquakes would be ignored, or at least not be expected to be tied to some sort of end of the world scenario. Though, the Chile earthquake would cause some ruckus...

Yeah, he really is overreacting, though there's the possibility of disaster, he's FREAKING out.
Keep in mind we have a pretty regular schedule for bigass quakes. Not worth shitting bricks every single time something shifts, we know it's coming and will be ready when it does.

This was a big quake though, and if it were any small poor country, a LOT OF PEOPLE would be dead.

I would say I am over-reacting, yes, but in times like these, people need to be aware that our safety and lives could possibly be in jeopardy. Personally I think the Chilean quake upset the entire Earth's faultlines, and is what is causing the uproar in recent quake activity. I am though expecting something to happen up here in WA state, and like I said, I will not put over-reacting before the safety of my family and friends.

I don't really think there's any proof that EQ's can set off others, they're usually regarded as coincidence, rightfully so.
D: first time i felt a quake in Arizona... shit just got real

We have an Haiti level earthquake on average every 21 days.
It's just the media over-reporting it.
Edit: I didn't even notice that this was a Haiti level earthquake (magnitude 7-7.9), so far we've had one in January, February and April, can't find one for March but the data's old.
Edit 2: Looking at updated data, we didn't have a Magnitude 7-7.9 earthquake in March, so we were actually overdue for one.
Yeah, it's all averages, aren't we also overdue for a big one?
I'm disappointed. I was out of state during the earthquake.
Why do I always have to miss the good ones?!
