Then again, this is in America. In Sweden it's kind of reversed, most people think that religious ones are stupid and can't be trusted. At least where I live.
I'm religious, but I don't let the fact that some of my friends are atheist get in the way of being good friends with them.
I'm sorry but who are these religious people? Out of the very few religious people I know including myself, I don't think I've ever met someone with this kind of a hatred for atheists.
Am I the only person on this forum that's Agnostic? I might not like some aspects of religion, but I do understand that it does bring people together in times of need, and besides, what would you rather believe if given a choice? - That there is nothing after death, or that there's an afterlife where you can live for eternity? And while I do agree with some claims Atheists have made, I'm really bothered by the outright silly atheists that get into a hissy-fit whenever they see a cross and so on. I'd rather wait until there's true evidence that proves or disproves the existence of a god. Until then, I try to stay out of arguments about religion.
Agnosticism and Gnosticism goes to what you "know" Atheism and Theism are to what you "believe" Agnosticism and Atheism are not mutually exclusive terms. The vast majority of atheists are Agnostic Atheists. They don't know for a fact there is no god (agnosticism) but they don't have any reason or evidence to believe that there is a god (atheism). So if you are not a theist, then you are an atheist. Agnosticism is not a third choice, there are only two choices. Here's a chart I found that might illustrate this better: Also, there will probably never be evidence that proves or disproves the existence of God, or any supernatural nonsense. It is an unfalsifiable claim (can't be proved or disproved) in the same way unicorns, fairies, and goblins are. You can't disprove any of those things, but you have no reason to believe they exist. Also there seems to be a huge misconception here that atheists are a type of religion. A good way to think about it is that atheism is as much of a religion as bald is a hair color, or not collecting stamps is a hobby. All of you guys are atheists in respect to Thor, Zeus, and Apollo (I think...), and in the same way some of us are just atheists in respect to the Christian god. You haven't presented enough evidence for me to believe the Christian god exists, so I'm not going to. That is the position of atheism, a position of non-belief.
I'm sorry but who are these religious people? This is laughably stupid. Atheists and Theists alike cannot simply choose to believe or not believe, just lie you can't choose to be white, black, or tan. You can lie about believing or not believing, but that's 1000x worse than being open.
>atheist >"RA RA RA YOU ARE EVIL GET OUT OF THIS COUNTRY YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS THIS IS A CHRISTIAN NATION" >someone on the board of education who MIGHT be atheist decides to make a rule against praying in schools >"FREEDOM OF RELIGION FREEDOM OF RELIGION WE'RE SO PERSECUTED BY THE SECULAR DEVIL"
I find this kind of disgusting. I myself am deeply spiritual, but I have no problem whatsoever with nonbelievers. Hell, a lot of my good friends are Atheists and Agnostics.
Lets intercess for facepunch. :v: Haha just kidding. I am in the same boat as you.
This is why I'm Anti-Atheist [sp]No, not really, I'm just trying to make a point[/sp] Because of the bullshit it spreads not to mention the countless instances of falsified evidence introduced to make your point sound better Note how me saying I'm Anti-atheist sounds ridiculously bigoted to you Take a look at how you said you're Anti-Religion from a perfectly normal person's perspective You're being just as dumb as the people you dislike. Seriously, the Facepunch atheism circlejerk is so damn obnoxious.
Yep guys, Evolution is just falsified evidence to disprove god.
How many Athiests have caused acts of terror/been a problem? like none How many religious people have caused acts of terror/been a problem? oh wait
http://commonsenseatheism.com/?p=11245
Are you really trying to compare that laughable event to the horrible things "real" religious nuts like Osama Bin Laden have done? I trust religious people as much as I trust my local rapist
http://commonsenseatheism.com/?p=11245
Ok he was an Atheist, so what? It wouldn't matter if he was Christian because he clearly didn't do it out of religious reasons, and even if he did, no matter what he followed, it's kind of irrelevant. There are far less atheists doing illegal things purely because of their believes than Theists. What are you trying to say? Also, Christian mom kills her kids to 'save them', you never see atheists do that shit, ever, out of 'disbelief'.
Are you trying to compare that laughable event to the scale of which religious nuts like Osama Bin Laden have been
This is still terrorism, why does it have to be on the same scale?
why can't we all get along :(
Ok he was an Atheist, so fucking what? There are far less atheists doing illegal things purely because of their believes than Theists. What are you trying to say?
This is still terrorism, why does it have to be on the same scale?
It doesn't even tell you anything about the story behind it, just something that happened.
Why can't we all just accept eachother :c
I felt like stating the facts, and I'm not implying that Atheists are evil either, I'm atheist.
It was a poor article that based its facts (of his religious status) on what some rogue myspace profile said
http://commonsenseatheism.com/?p=11245
How many atheists have caused terror acts based on their beliefs/disbeliefs? Did he commit that crime because he was atheist or is that additional info that has no value? If a man commits robbery and is christian that means nothing, not a religious cause. If a man is muslim and blows himself up because 72 virgins, that is a religious cause.
It doesn't even tell you anything about the story behind it, just something that happened.
Because as you can see by the source, it is probably going to be about religion, if you want to know what he did then go search it.
It was a poor article that based its facts (of his religious status) on what some rogue myspace profile said
That and it's like pointing out that a Christian killed their spouse but it wasn't out of religious reasons, but they're Christian so its bad anyways! A real example would be if they did it to enforce some insane Atheist ideals.
How many atheists have caused terror acts based on their beliefs/disbeliefs? Did he commit that crime because he was atheist or is that additional info that has no value? Here in Norway I feel pretty respected by my religious peers.
That's true, but he was trying to prove that no atheists have committed an act of terrorism.
You completely missed the point Since the beginning of religion - it has sparked wars, provoked fear, slowed down the progress of humanity and social development, and has contributed to sponsoring the greatest acts of terrorism we have ever seen. We both know these acts will continue long into the future, it just fuels all of the wrong things. But when Atheist people who say they just didn't want to be associated with the root of all of those problems are looked at by the theists, we are the ones who get cast out -- we look like we're untrustworthy because we don't use their bible as our moral compass or whatever. denial sux
I have a friend that I've known for 9 years he turned atheist about 3 years ago. We're still best buddies.
And this is why I'm Anti-Religion. Because of the bullshit it spreads and the danger it inflicts. Because of the bigoted attitude and arrogance Atheism instils in people. Not to mention just how quick many Atheists on this forum are all to eager to jump aboard the Religion-Hating Bandwagon when all religion provides is a moral code that amounts to "Don't be a dick".
