my brother got so lucky the other day. He traded in Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Gears of War 2 and got $35 for it. The machine or something must of messed up or something.
Never EVER give your games to gamestop. Ebay gets you the real monies.
Most of us don't feel like waiting for someone on ebay to buy it and then have to ship it to them.
They have an entire factory dedicated to this stuff? Wow. My mind is blown.
It's a model of efficiency, to be honest. What they do is not at all different from industrial recycling plants.
Holy shit, trading into gamestop is a nightmare They look at every one of my games in the most judgemental manner, and then say "Yep, this is damaged. Gonna need to refurbish it." I always call tem out on the BS, I always tell them they run 100% fine, but even if they have the smallest scuff or scratch suddenly I have to pay them 3$.
Is there some type of game trading community out there so I wouldn't have to get so ripped off by gamestop? Something like steam trading but with used games. Though I guess like steam I would expect a lot of people expecting to get a copy of MW3 for their duke nukem forever.
I went with my sister to trade in her PS3 (it was on the verge of breaking so she traded it in towards a new ps3) and it went just fine for me. But if you go in with a giant stack of games be prepared to wait a while. I went in with a bunch of PS3 and xbox games that I would never play again and they took forever because they were opening all the boxes and checking all the disks, which is to be expected I guess. Maybe the gamestop that I go to has some bro employees. I dunno.
Like 3 months after LA Noire came out I bought it and when I was finished, traded it in. They offered me 2 bucks.
This is bullshit. I sold God Of War 3 back to them for about 10$ a month ago. I never understand why people complain about their buy back prices. They are just as good or better than you would get anywhere else. If they where not you would be selling you games somewhere else instead of complaining about selling them at GameStop.
I remember back in the day I tried to trade in Dark Cloud 1 and they offered me a quarter...

They were going to give me 20$ for my original xbox and a stack of 30 games in 07. They even offered me 35 cents for starwars knights of the old republic 2.
Then again, I traded in like 12 games for my 360 the other day, along with my old membership card and the special they were having in steam cards I ended up getting $120 in steam money. Just in time for the summer sale.
It's a shame that the second hand games market is getting eradicated by Steam (and Origin :v:). Well actually, it's not so bad seeing as the prices on Steam are probably cheaper than buying a second hand game from Gamestop anyway.
gamestop only deals in console games though.

There probable turned around and sold them for six or so dollars each, if they sold them. It wasn't that bad of a deal.
gamestop only deals in console games though.
They do PC games on their website and most gamestops I go in have a small rack of PC games (mostly populated by WoW expansions last time I looked).
As much as I don't like Gamestop, this is really, really cool. It's rare I actually read an entire article in Sensationalist Headlines.
What's really truly wrong with Gamestop?
I tried to trade a box of computer games worth about $500 to them for a used Xbox 360. They refused, because they couldn't trust me not to steal all the keys. [editline]2nd August 2012[/editline]
gamestop only deals in console games though.
They have the obligatory cart of PC games consisting mostly of Warcraft and other MMOs.
I miss Funcoland.
What's really truly wrong with Gamestop?
I think their low trade in costs is what bugs people. [editline]3rd August 2012[/editline] Other than that I dunno. All the people I have seen working in a gamsetop have been just fine, they never screwed up a pre-order, and I never got a non-working used game there. (although I got SF4 used and the box was kinda fucked but it closed just fine)
Well at least most of it stays at the store.
Sell your games at a flea market. From experience as a person who worked at a flea market, Hipsters love flea markets and we all know how Hipsters love old games.
I figured they just put their dicks in them and threw 'em on the shelves. Still a bit frustrating that they take games for pennies to the dollar and sell them for ten times that, but a business is a business.
I remember going to Gamestop once. I went to trade in around 10 games, which were all in stellar condition. They offered me 20 euro, not even half of 1 retail game price. Fuck all.
You where selling them a last gen console and games. There probable turned around and sold them for six or so dollars each, if they sold them.
I traded them a broken Borderlands game for like $25. Was like 6 months after it came out too.
Haha I did that with Gears of War 2 way back when, felt good to stick it to the pricks.
Haha I did that with Gears of War 2 way back when, felt good to stick it to the pricks.
They can usually fix it. From what I hear it barely costs them a thing to sand the disk down and it works as good as new.
it was irreparable
I'm playing the smallest violin possible...
For the tens of thousands of employees and the millions of people who shop there, it's a pretty big deal. Like it or not, Gamestop is effectively the face of the retail gaming industry.
What's really truly wrong with Gamestop?
I think the core of the problem is their profit margin. Flipping a game for literally hundreds to thousands percent profit is a horrible business practice in the sense that it rips off the customers. I guess it's the seller's choice but that doesn't justice them abusing stupidity like that.

I'll readily agree with you that, on a title by title basis, some of our turnarounds are absurd. However, if you take advantage of trade-in promotions and store sales, you can get a pretty good deal.
