If you time it right with deals, you can do pretty well trading in gamest to gamestop.
In 07 the xbox was still widely played. 30 cents for a classic that they then sell for 15$ (I checked) is what I would consider a rip off.
Sell it somewhere else then. There are other more profitable avenues for selling games. With GameStop your going to be sacrificing profit for convenience.
I hope they didn't destroy my old gamecube games I traded in a couple years ago.
I stopped going to Game stop ever since there was a new game store put here, and that their trade in crap is messed up.. I traded in like half of my PS2 collection(Lets say it was a regular grocery bag full?) and got like 24 bucks at Game Stop (This happened maybe when I was in 9nth grade). Then recently, maybe 2 or 3 months ago, I went to the new game store called Oogie and traded in like 5 or 6 unpopular ps2 games and got 41 bucks in store credit.
As much as I don't like Gamestop, this is really, really cool.
It's rare I actually read an entire article in Sensationalist Headlines.
Why don't you like Gamestop?
It seems like everybody hates them. I've heard things about service being bad, but the one in town has awesome service because the people are kind, helpful, know what they're doing, and best of all, know what they are talking about.
I found A perfect unopened copy of Halo 2 special edition at half price books for 7$ best day ever.
I love half price books sometimes, they get some really good games for REALLY good prices.
It's a shame that the second hand games market is getting eradicated by Steam (and Origin :v:). Well actually, it's not so bad seeing as the prices on Steam are probably cheaper than buying a second hand game from Gamestop anyway.
As long as game consoles exist and continue to sell retail copies of games, the second hand games market is not going anywhere.

Well, at least in Finland, their games are priced 10-20€ higher than Verkkokauppa.com. I remember having to buy MGS4 from there and it was like 75€, whereas in Verkkokauppa.com it was 59,90€.
Like 3 months after LA Noire came out I bought it and when I was finished, traded it in.
They offered me 2 bucks.
Dunno about you, but 6 months later they offered $17 for mine on 360.

These Digital Distribution platforms, well some of them, actually offer trade-ins, which is pretty much unheard of for PC games
I'm glad the article didn't mention rewrapping used games and selling them new. But Gamestop probably wouldn't publicly reveal that seedy practice.
I wonder what kind of used games them get. Probably a bunch of shitty EA sports and racing games.
gamestop doesn't even sell used pc games. how does it eradicate something that wasn't there to begin with?
they used to 5 or so years ago. i bought a used copy of medal of honor pacific assault for $10, then went home and found out there was no cd key in the box so i couldnt play the multiplayer, so i went to yahoo answers asking for a key, and got permabanned
I sold 7 games and they gave me $5.50
I sold 7 games and they gave me $5.50
Why would you even allow that?
Tell them to suck a dick and go get a realistic deal on eBay.
I don't really use the internet for selling stuff and none of the pawn shops I went to let me sell them.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this, OP.
I remember going to Gamestop once. I went to trade in around 10 games, which were all in stellar condition.
They offered me 20 euro, not even half of 1 retail game price. Fuck all.
The condition doesn't matter as much as the demand does. They can fix up a lot of slightly damaged games, but they can't make people pay anything for a game they don't want. If the games were still popular titles (some series like Pokemon really, really hold their value), then they were ripping you off. If it was some game from years ago that wasn't a big seller and doesn't have a fanbase looking for it, they were probably ripping you off a lot less than you think.

They're not all that nice (I had a gigantic pain trying to sell a copy of ODST to them), although the one near me would be alright to go to if it didn't seem to attract families with parents less mature than their kids.
Is Gamestop really that bad?, i've only been there once to buy an obscure PS3 game and it seemed to go by smoothly. I might sell some games there soon to buy a PS3 game i'm interested in.

In store credit.
My whole problem with Gamestop is their retail company bullshit. I understand they have to make a profit,
But seriously? if i call into any gamestop it's almost a minute long of just "thank you for calling gamestop at [x location], where you can trade in your blah blah for blah, and you can also blah blah and blah, and today you can even blah blah if you blah with your memborship card, and get an extra blah blah off, how may i help you?"

As a Gamestop employee, I'll be the first to say I hate those long winded greetings with a passion. But if we don't do them, we could get written up and potentially fired for it.
Also man, sometimes that warehouse does a poor job of refurbishing things :v:

Yeah, no kidding. I swear, lately it seems like a third of our refurbished discs don't work at all.

Metroid Prime Trilogy Collectors Edition
Offers:
Gamestop: 12 USD
ebay: 80 USD
Well worth the effort to ship it.

And there are some exceptions with collectors editions but with just a disk and a box unless you are selling like a bunch of them at once gamestop is most peoples place to go.
I think the core of the problem is their profit margin.
Flipping a game for literally hundreds to thousands percent profit is a horrible business practice in the sense that it rips off the customers. I guess it's the seller's choice but that doesn't justice them abusing stupidity like that.
Or you can just throw the game away when you're done with it and get nothing for it. . .
