BE and the main Civ are not made by the same group of people within the company. Rust isn't cancelled because garry made a different game, etc.
Civ is one of those rare games where i could not give a shit about graphics. Really excited for it, trailer gave me goosebumps [editline]11th May 2016[/editline] [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeMkgoH2iHQ[/hd]
Found an article that seems to have more information:
In previous iterations of the series, certain systems were left out of the initial release, which were then added in through subsequent expansions. Beach told us, however, that all of the major systems — including espionage, religion, tourism, archaeology, and trade routes — will be in place at launch. He admits that some will be more fleshed out than others, still leaving room for later additions, but the basics will be there. Beach cited his team’s experience on Civ V’s expansions as ideal preparation for tackling the core game’s entirety.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/civilization-vi-first-details/
I don't mind the art style. Call it cartoony if you want, but realistic graphics do not age well. It seems odd to me that they are jumping straight from Beyond Earth to VI with such little fanfare, and it's a pity that BE didn't do as well/was not as developed. I just hope they don't lock core features behind a paywall for 3+ years as DLC. If that ends up being the case, then I will wait for the complete edition to buy the game. Good. I will be looking forward to October 21st in that case.
I quite like the artstyle, actually. It's quite clean compared to Civ V which I like a lot, I hope the gameplay reflects some of that cleanliness.
It's funny how unit combining is this too hot/too cold thing. In Civ IV, unit stacking was a way of life, and in the leadup to Civ V there were tons of people who were violently opposed to the one-combat-unit-per-tile change in V. I wasn't sure I was on-board with it myself. Once Civ V launched the complaining all but stopped as people actually got to play it and discovered that units not stacking meant you didn't have mega-armies that could turtle a billion units together and seige a city forever. And now stacking's coming back.
I think maybe a decent middle-ground would be having limited stack sizes, maybe dependant on the "size" of different units? That way you could have a sizeable stack of Pathfinders, but you wouldn't be able to stack the same number of Comanche Landships in the same spot. Which seems to be what they're doing this time around. Plus you'd be able to have armies of a reasonable size, and it'd be easier to move your military units around. Unless I'm remembering wrong, since you can't stack units of the same "class" (military, civilian, ships, planes etc), if a friendly military unit is in the way of another, the second military unit has to go around the first one?
adding to OP, they seem to have changed the art style a little though
Not bad, this is similar to the console civ which was actually pretty good in its own right. If the UI isnt as shit as the console game then the artstyle will be fine.
well it looks like it's time to lose yet more months of my life to a single game
well it looks like it's time to lose yet more months of my life to a single game
One... More... Turn..
I'll probably wait until someone gives the all-clear on this one. Or at most until the "Complete Edition" in a coupla years. Though it still looks like a pretty cool set of new systems, including the whole "science is now influenced by yet more things" thing.
I'm interested to see what the music choices turn out to be. Civ IV's music was nice but over the hours it would just make me feel depressed and sleepy. Civ V's music is pleasant and upbeat except for tense times like war (as it should be).
I think maybe a decent middle-ground would be having limited stack sizes, maybe dependant on the "size" of different units? I'm not starting the "remove stacking" bandwagon here, just remarking on the pendulumn swinging back and forth. :v:

This comes out on my birthday, so I'll probably get it, but £50...
I plan to inject Baba Yetu into the main menu music immediately.
Announcement trailer seems amateurish. Reminds me of an O2 mobile advert with Sean Bean narrating that.
Oh, I did not know that. Maybe that's why some say B.E. didn't feel like a Civ game.
It broke from the Civ formula in a number of ways, but I think what hampered BE the most, other than needing its own BNW to fill in the thin weak spots in the game mechanics, is that it doesn't get to draw on the rich established history of human civilization -- instead, it's speculating on the next thousand years or so of technological discoveries and social evolution (do we embrace the singularity, do we perform genetic experimentation to control our evolution and integrate alien biology, or do we become Skinhead Eugenicists in Space and rant about preserving the purity of the human race?) and as a result it's generic as fuck. The writing in BE really tries hard given the hand of cards it's been dealt, but given that BE attempts to write your scifi story as you go based on the affinities you and the other leaders choose, it cannot help but be pathetically weak and thin compared to the built-in backstories that make a clash between Genghis Khan and an alliance of George Washington and Shaka memorable, no matter how historically improbable/impossible the outcomes of a Civ V game may be. There is a large amount of cultural gravitas behind the standard Civilization title and its characters and technologies, because it's our global history. Civ BE's storylines are procedurally-generated, more or less, based on a broad setting and list of semi-generic characters and the prewritten flavour texts and diplomacy chatter.
looks like cloudflare ate my other post. rip. anyways, it looks good. I love the artstyle. hopefully its better in the lategame though, I dont really enjoy 20 minute turns when playing against the AI. making mods a part of multiplayer would be great as well.
It's not a huge deal but I hope we get to see clothing and styles from advisors and leaders changing over each era like in Civilization 2. Would be hilarious and fitting given the new cartoon-like art direction they're taking it as well.
I like the art style, I really don't think they could have gone much further with the whole realistic art style from civilization 5 without people whining that it looks too much like civ 5
It's not a huge deal but I hope we get to see clothing and styles from advisors and leaders changing over each era like in Civilization 2.
civ 3 had it as well, it was great to see attila dressed in a tux later on.
I like what im reading in the PCGamer article. Also, comes out the same day as Battlefield 1, the day after my Birthday. What great birthday gifts.
Bring on the nukes. And no sleep
Damn, are the prices so high everywhere in the world? £49.99 for the base game, £69.99 including some of the post-launch content, and £93.98 (15% off) for the Deluxe edition and a Steam controller? Looks like I'm waiting a year or two for a sale.
I'll reserve judgement on the graphics until I see it in motion And also until we get to see if the diplomacy screens are anywhere as gorgeous as Civ5's [sp]and also until we know if it still takes ages to boot up[/sp]
and also until we know if it still takes ages to boot up
If this is fixed I will buy it no matter how much DLC's lined up after launch. I bought BE for a friend for their birthday more or less specifically so the group of us could play in multiplayer because they were the odd one out who didn't already own it. Their computer was a bit shitty and took so long to load BE that it would time out from the other clients during multiplayer 100% of the time, either during the initial load and sync before the game even began, or by the end of turn 3 at the latest. And once a player drops out, they're out for the game and taken over by the AI. The group of us have without exception not touched Civ BE's multiplayer since.
Looks really good, it's a really tempting buy right now with the steam controller bundle. I might wait for a little more information though.

They succeeded in setting the tone to be optimistic, - I'd have to say the tone is probably one of the best parts of the game, but that's not necessarily a good thing - but they failed to flesh out the different part and it just ended up being a really shallow experience. I'm really hoping it gets better with another DLC, but right now it's just an okay spin-off.
Oh fuck. Battlefield 1 and Civ6 come out on the same day. This is going to be the best gaming year since 2009
And now stacking's coming back.
Nope. Fuck that. Not buying this game.
Nope. Fuck that. Not buying this game.
it isnt actual stacking though. not like the bullshit that was in civ 4.
I want more unique buildings and units for each civ. Something in every era would be nice. Even if it is just cosmetic.
