dunno why people are complaining about it looking cartoony civ 5 units are already plenty cartoony with wacky proportions. if they got any more realistic it would look like a jumbled mess once you zoom out. using contrasting colors and creating unique silhouettes really helps on quick unit recognition as well as adding a bit of character to different units a cartoony art style always felt like what the civ series would naturally progress to, since you already have soldiers who are 200 meters tall
cartoony artstyles also tend to age a lot better and seem to be easier on computers, which could be great since the game takes so damn long to load.
Will we have the globe view from Civ IV back? Please?

I prefer 6 over 5 purely because its easier on the eyes
It's not a huge deal but I hope we get to see clothing and styles from advisors and leaders changing over each era like in Civilization 2. I would always get eye strain after playing civ 5 for too long.
and easier to identify things from a glance, I would hope.
My one issue with the new artstyle is that I don't really see the hexes as clearly. Although I like that it looks more organic I feel that it's lost some of that quick readability that the more obviously tiled Civ V hexes had.
I really hope the fix the AI and multiplayer related lag that Civ 5 had.
Hey, Civ IV graphics were also somewhat cartoonish. Anyway, what I'm only worried about is how moddable the game will be. If it's like CIV 5...damn it....if it's like CIV IV, I'm buying it.
You can probably turn on gridlines for hexes.
Most likely, but even with hexes off Civ V read very easily:
I think maybe a decent middle-ground would be having limited stack sizes, maybe dependant on the "size" of different units? That way you could have a sizeable stack of Pathfinders, but you wouldn't be able to stack the same number of Comanche Landships in the same spot. Which seems to be what they're doing this time around. Plus you'd be able to have armies of a reasonable size, and it'd be easier to move your military units around. Unless I'm remembering wrong, since you can't stack units of the same "class" (military, civilian, ships, planes etc), if a friendly military unit is in the way of another, the second military unit has to go around the first one?
Or maybe you could have it so there's a debuff effect if there's more than one unit in a province?
The music used in the release trailer is great, but my brain associates it to the SS13 video made by Aphtonites
the song (adagio in d minor by john morphy first for sunshine ost) is good, but fucking hell has it been overused by now, it's almost cliche to me it's use even has it's own wikipedia entry
I hate the new artstyle. It totally destroys the sense of scale that civ 5 had, while things weren't perfectly proportional, the forest canopies and desert dunes really gave the sense that you were conquering continents. I would've much preferred an enhanced civ 5 artstyle, with smaller, more interesting units like red modpack: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=76153116 Civ 6 looks like a mobile game where I control towns. Civ 5 looks like a PC game where I control nations.
I don't mind the art style, but it does look like a mobile/tablet game being ported to PC. A real Clash of Clans look to it. As long as the good stuff comes with the game and isn't locked away in a far off expansion, I'm game
Maybe the Artstyle would have been okay 10 years ago but I think "standard cartoony" has just been run into the ground by now and just makes everything look "fake"
From the PC Gamer article
I ask what is, to my mind, the most important question of all. If a leader's traits are historical, will Gandhi be less fond of nuclear armageddon? "We have a special way of handling him. Initially he's going to seem very peaceful, but he'll have a dark side."
:v: Also, digging the art style and new city setup idea. It'll be weird having them fragmented, but a better visual representation of your cities is something I've always wanted. Was worried about unit stacking, but if it's really just 'support' type troops, I won't fret too much.
Not a fan of the new art style, plus CIV5 taught me to not bother with the base game until some expansion like brave new world comes out. The base game will simply be lacking content all in the name of creating expansion packs. There's a solid 98% chance that i'll skip this.
The lead designer on VI, Ed Beach, was also the lead designer on G&K and BNW; VI is shipping with pretty much every system (religion, trade, archaeology, espionage, tourism) from V. [editline]11th May 2016[/editline] I dig the new artstyle except for the trees, having individual trees rather than forest masses makes it feel smaller-scale.
Civ is one of those rare games where i could not give a shit about graphics. Really excited for it, trailer gave me goosebumps [editline]11th May 2016[/editline] [hd]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeMkgoH2iHQ[/hd]
prepare the nukes
THAT [sp]PLEASES ME MIGHTLY[/sp] HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
The trailer was meh for me Love Civ but the music just made it feel so generic
But if they do that they can't shit out the requisite minimum of 2 expansion packs. I'll believe it when I see it tbh
they said they'll have at least the basics in so they can expand on them later.
I really hope they've done their multiplayer stuff more properly this time, would love to see a headless server. Especially if they can fix up something like the Civ V pitboss mode, except one which actually works.
Loving the use of "Surface of the Sun - John Murphy"
they said they'll have at least the basics in so they can expand on them later.
Hopefully they will, though I also hope that the following expansions also introduce some new stuff. Like maybe, if the base game only goes up to Information Era, they could release a "World of the Future" expansion where you could build on the ocean (and beneath it) a'la Call to Power, as well as maybe having an Orbital layer for stations and satellites like Beyond Earth did.

I'll honestly be impressed and buy the game if it has more than just "hey this is CIV VI, it's just like civ 5 but with some tweeks and some cartoony graphics". IE: If the game has enough content that it doesn't feel like the expansions are merely adding content that should have been there in the first place, i'll get it. [editline]11th May 2016[/editline] This would please my penis. No seriously, CIV always seems to give up on future era techs, leading to a game that inevitably gets somewhat boring once you hit the information age.
I've strangely always found that around the middle of the Industrial Age, no matter what speed I play on, I always loose steam and don't want to play anymore. I have to wonder if it's because of this where the late game is actually pretty shit in Civ V, or if it's just coincidental that I lose motivation to play around that time.
I'm exactly the same. You start with warriors that only attack in their adjacent tile and end with stealth bombers that can attack over continents.

Turns can start taking ages though.
