I really wonder who has a mindset like this. "Wow that physicist wears a shirt that depicts women in revealing clothes. This shirt has completely removed my desire to become a physicist!" Also what the fuck is casual misogyny?
Casual misogyny is the concept that is "casual" its so accepted and subconscious that it is natural and expected and just happens. I don't know if it has any fucking basis in any reality though, subconscious thoughts and actions are real, but is not unique to misogyny and there is no proof that there is a rampant force of casual misogyny.
waiting for that one guy to say the shirt is sexist and cause a 10 page shirtstorm there's always that one guy, come on out
unpleasant comments aimed at the vocal minority of feminists (as an example) who cry about this kind of thing simply points to the peaceful majority that they are right and is subversive to the egalitarian movement's goals.
Yep, wearing a shirt is subversive to the egalitarian movement's goals. Honestly, we should all just be wearing full body grey tracksuits. Landed on a motherfucking comet and they focus on a fucking tshirt.
Soon it will be illegal to show women anywhere like Allah.
I really wonder who has a mindset like this. "Wow that physicist wears a shirt that depicts women in revealing clothes. This shirt has completely removed my desire to become a physicist!" Also what the fuck is casual misogyny?

This is a great example of the self defeating nature of feminism. On one side, feminists claim that women are independent, powerful and do not need the approval of anyone. On the other side, you have this article claiming 'Women don't join STEM fields because of attitudes like this.' This basically claims that women are so fragile that they would reject a field they want to work on because someone wore a shirt 'objectifying' women. Honestly, if someone wears a unprofessional T-shirt to any event, the appropriate reaction would be 'That shirt is so out of place, what was he thinking' and not 'I am quitting this field and my major because people wear unprofessional shirts'. By writing articles like this, the site trivializes one of mankind's greatest achievements into 'Look at that guy, he dared wear a offensive shirt, let's crucify him' campaign. By the way, aren't you limiting his freedom of clothing when you complain about this? If it is okay for women to wear whatever they want, wherever they want because 'my body, my wish' then this scientist definitely has the same right.
Something I read somewhere.
nice work folks, by belittling a man to tears we've made significant headway into solving the issues of gender inequality in our society oh wait no we accomplished fucking nothing [editline]e[/editline] like honestly the fact that people could get this outraged by a shirt in the name of feminism and gender equality bothers me, because making such a fucking stink about something that is a total non-issue discredits the causes of feminism more than it bolsters them it just gives more ammunition to the "haha stupid feminazis hate men and just want to push their agenda" crowd
If that shirt was a bunch of half-dressed female scientists wearing white-coats this situation could get a whole lot worse
waiting for that one guy to say the shirt is sexist and cause a 10 page shirtstorm there's always that one guy, come on out
The shirt is sexy.

I'm not saying that he's sexist or the shirt is sexist, but is it wrong for people to be upset about this? There are times when people throw around misogynistic accusations when they're not warranted, but is this one of those times?* I kinda feel like there is some legitimacy to being upset about his decision to wear that shirt for a public interview. Maybe he was caught off-guard and wasn't expecting anyone other than close friends or co-workers to see the shirt that day. *Edit: I've changed my mind actually there is nothing misogynistic about the shirt. Since misogyny literally means "hatred of women", and this shirt obviously shows that he likes women a lot, not hates them.

Have we become so fucking weak as a species that we have to consider the moral implications of a t-shirt that his friend made for him.

People who get upset over such nonimportant stuff are a much bigger problem than this.

If you are stating "its not professional". Who cares? That is a concept society made, it is not real and does not exist. It was wrong to attack him, wrong to judge him, and wrong to make a grown man cry, end of story.
I've seen people legit saying that gay people are sexist/misogynistic because they don't like women.
Yep.

To bring the guy to literal tears is inexcusable and disgusting.
Maybe he was caught off-guard and wasn't expecting anyone other than close friends or co-workers to see the shirt that day.
IT'S THE DAY YOU SUCCESSFULLY LANDED A FUCKING PROBE ON A FUCKING COMET
the worst part about this isn't that these people brought him to tears, its that they feel morally superior for making a grown man cry
waiting for that one guy to say the shirt is sexist and cause a 10 page shirtstorm there's always that one guy, come on out
Max was banned a while ago.
Because the shirt was made for him by a close friend (a woman) and he likes it. https://twitter.com/ellypriZeMaN/status/532927131098300416 He's a badass and can wear what he wants
It was also given to him for his birthday. I just about fucking had it with those overly political correct types. What they are doing is just stir up shit so they can feel better about themselves while they have a free pass to bully people who like stuff they don't like into submission. For fuckssake, the guy's part of the team that landed the rover. Do you see the women on that team being offended at that shirt? Of course not, it is just a fucking shirt. If he would be the woman-hater the media tries to slander him for right now, he wouldn't be on that team in the first place.
"your rights end where my feelings begin"
the worst part about this isn't that these people brought him to tears, its that they feel morally superior for making a grown man cry
God bless people sometimes.
How do these people (the women) live with themselves and function on a day to day basis
I'm not saying that he's sexist or the shirt is sexist, but is it wrong for people to be upset about this? No, but to start stereotyping everyone, playing the holier-than-thou card, and ask for sympathy because a-bloo a-bloo person who did something that I dun like!, is.
If any criticism should be levied at the shirt, it would be to say that the shirt is tacky/unprofessional or something of the like. To bring the guy to literal tears is inexcusable and disgusting.
fuck this i feel sorry for the guy whateve. Good job scientists!
I wonder what they would have said if he were wearing a shirt with half-naked men on it instead.
This actually makes my blood boil. Who gives a flying fuck if he chooses to wear a shirt with women on it. He likes it. He likes women, otherwise he wouldn't wear it. I fail to see the issue. Holy fuck. This guy just accomplished more then what almost anybody will in their lives and he's being criticized on his attire. I'm genuinely fucking sick of this species. The shirt meant something to him and was special to him as it was gifted to him from one of his friends on his birthday. You wouldn't choose to wear something close to you on the day of one of your lifes biggest accomplishments? Egunertpiugvhwpntvrwhgverthhv
Ok, so what if the shirt depicted something else, like slavery. Or if it was a shirt with swastikas all over it. Would the same situation apply?
First off, No. I don't care at all about hypothetical Strawman argument that is about a completely different circumstance. By doing this, you are trying to manipulate the argument into your favor He has a shirt made by his close female friend that has scanty women on it, unprofessional, but nothing offensive. There is nothing offensive about sexy women and nothing offensive about the human body. His shirt advocates nothing harmful.
How do these people (the women) live with themselves and function on a day to day basis
With huge ego and superiority complex. After all making a man cry is a huge achievement to strong independent women and should be celebrated.
I wonder what they would have said if he were wearing a shirt with half-naked men on it instead.
They would've said, "What are you, gay?" And he'd be like, "yeah".
