It's funny because I've seen backlash aimed at websites like The Verge who are reporting on this despite it having absolutely nothing to do with technology. Seems like people are finally getting tired of this shit. Leave the "omg so offensive" clickbait to the tabloids please.
Ok, so what if the shirt depicted something else, like slavery. Or if it was a shirt with swastikas all over it. Would the same situation apply?
But a tacky shirt with women on it does not have the physical impact a shirt with Nazis enslaving people on it would unless you've so twisted your mind to the point where seeing a depiction of styalized women is slavery to you, Nazis actually killed millions, slavery dehumanised millions, a fucking DnD depiction of sexy women has never killed people
They would've said, "What are you, gay?" And he'd be like, "yeah".
And then Tumblr would get offended because being gay is apparently discriminatory now. If you listen to Tumblr.
-fuck late-

The nazi shirt sounds fairly metal
I'm not saying that he's sexist or the shirt is sexist, but is it wrong for people to be upset about this? There are times when people throw around misogynistic accusations when they're not warranted, but is this one of those times? I kinda feel like there is some legitimacy to being upset about his decision to wear that shirt for a public interview.
Maybe he was caught off-guard and wasn't expecting anyone other than close friends or co-workers to see the shirt that day.
I've seen no compelling arguments at all for the shirt or its wearer being misogynist.
All this has achieved is demonise a man and bring him to tears after making history, and unduly scare women away from technology by painting him as a boogeyman. This backlash has done more damage to women in technology and feminism at large than the shirt ever did.

Yes, in the end this is correct. Getting all worked up about something as meaningless as this is the true problem. Like I said, I really feel sorry for this guy, he's helped do something truly wonderful in the world of modern science. He should feel like the king of the world right now, not a criminal.
I'm starting to realize that social justice warriors don't care about being offended.
They're just using political correctness to bully people.

If people are seriously willing to make a grown man ball his eyes out after he has done good for humanity, because of something as simple as a goofy t-shirt, they need to be put into a fucking institution. Seriously, that's the point where it's no longer a matter of SJW crap or any of that, but rather a problem where people have gone so far up their asses with political correctness and being delusional about people coming after them, that they might as well be put into a medical facility for being literally insane.
I wonder what they would have said if he were wearing a shirt with half-naked men on it instead.
Then they'd get mad at it not having women on it, there's no reasoning with these rabid things.
Some people are offended by anything. Just looking in their general direction would probably offend them too.
It's more that they never learned to handle being mildly offenended properly. They think the world owes them an apology for the SLIGHTEST of errors, that their precious feelings matter more than a massive scientific breakthrough that benefits all of mankind.

That's true for many movements. Before racism was a front to bully people, then the whole gay tolerance thing was also used to call everyone a homophobe and bully them, right now it's misogyny.
You can't say anything against these bullies unless you too want to be labelled a misogynistic pig and be bullied.
its an ok shitr. 6 out of 10
I'm pissed off at the reactions. It's a fucking shirt.
Hell, are some people just looking for ways to be offended? Might it be an unprofessional shirt to wear? Sure. But the slander and accusations he's receive just from wearing a shirt is disgusting.
I'm more outraged at her attitude than she is by that shirt. She's just a damn bully, and should be the one apologizing here.
Seriously, you're gonna make someone who just achieved something pretty damn impressive cry over something so goddamn innocuous because you feel the need to be self-righteous over some imaginary slight? How dare you. This man helped accomplish more than you probably will in your entire goddamn lifetime and you feel the need to piggyback off his success to look like some sort of hero when you clearly aren't.
What a bitch. What a toxic attitude. Go antagonize someone else, you leech.
You know what offends my sensibilities? Mass killings, animal abuse and neglect targeted towards children, and blatant disregard of life or nature of any kind, not a fucking shirt. Go after a real cause if you want to get riled up, because we sure as hell have enough to go around.
I'm less disturbed by the fact people like this exist and more by the fact people like this wield considerable media (and by extension, potentially political or social) power.
Like seriously, with the snap of a keyboard a handful of people were able to cause a scientist to break down in tears and the entire focus of an enormous undertaking be diverted to something fucking trivial.
They're right that shirt was way over the line, the women on it were far too scantily clad, they should have all been in niqabs
Oh my jesus
Oh my jesus this is an actual article
people actually made this guy cry, a guy who worked on getting a ship to land on a comet
because of a shirt. They literally didn't even care that the guy did something completely beneficial to the world and science in general. They ignored that, and made him cry because of his shirt.
I just. I can't. I really can't.
People are talking about this over the actual fucking accomplishment
I just
holy shit
christ this makes my blood boil
he landed a space craft on a fucking asteroid in mission literally a decade in progress, he's earned the right to wear whatever shirt he damn well pleases
RossetaGate?
ScienceGate?
This shit is going to destroy everything

Why would or should gay men be standing up for women? they're treated FAR WORSE than woman are and are worrying about gay rights for men and women alike. Sounds a bit selfish to complain about how a group who has it far off isn't actively supporting you, don't you think?
if you honestly think me as a gay man caring about gay rights then you're really not getting the fact that women aren't treated as second class citizens nearly as much. That's not to say it doesn't exist, but it's not the 40's any more, ladies.
Men who take notice of women are misogynests, men who ignore women are misogynests, men who identify as women are misogynests, women who defend men who have been called out as misogynists are misogynists
Misogyny has lost its original meaning
These lunatics are getting as bad as the WBC. Actually, they're worse. At least WBC can't antagonize people on this scale. Way to completely overshadow the actual progress made here.
Just looking in their general direction would probably offend them too.
judging by that "10 hours walking in NYC" video you're pretty much right

extremist feminists are making everything awful and making it harder for women to be treated fairly.
acting like a giant cunt doesn't make people think better of women, being a better woman makes people think better of women
Misogyny has lost its original meaning
Quite literally. Someone used it wrong and so, in Australia, the definition was changed to fit the situation a while ago.

Holy shit both sides are overreacting insanely hard. You guys who think that a lot of feminism stuff these days can just be boiled down to "waah everything offends me I'm so triggered right now that shirt is RAPING ME" a la Tumblr are completely falling for trolls. A while ago, people noticed that there were some people on Tumblr who were more than a little overly aggressive with feminism, trigger warnings and the like, and they started to parody them and act super offended about everything. Then, other people came along and believed them, and started making even more ridiculous parodies of feminism, and now people apparently actually think that shit like "omg u triggered me with that shirt I'm literally being raped right now kill all men etc etc" is actually commonly believed
It's not. People aren't threatening to burn down his house or anything, they're just saying that wearing a shirt like that (which you have to admit is pretty unprofessional) might make people uncomfortable to be around, which is perfectly reasonable. Sure, this massive campaign may be a bit much for a shirt, but it's nowhere near as big as you guys are blowing it up to be. It's not like the people who tweeted at him went in saying "hehhehe I'm going to say that little things like the half naked women on his shirt are unprofessional and make me feel somewhat uncomfortable to be around, I hope he'll burst into tears about it, I fucking hate men hahhahaha". No, they just mean that him taking a simple action like changing his shirt (which he probably didn't see as a problem in the first place, no big deal) would help put people around him at ease and take no effort at all. Both parties would then move on with their lives without giving it a second thought.
And also, just because he did a super amazing awesome thing doesn't mean he's exempt from criticism. You can congratulate someone and hold them in high regard while still questioning some things about them and offering your point of view on said things
Yes we get it, you hate men because you suck and you're unhappy with yourself
At least they make themselves known and easy to avoid
Literally when I go through tinder and anyone's profile says" proud feminist or "active feminist" I swipe left so hard my phone goes through the wall
everyone should be a feminist, the idea behind it is just a no-brainier. Shouldn't even have to say you are one. But the people who label themselves as one, they're most likely far from those equality ideas in the first place.
Yes we get it, you hate men because you suck and you're unhappy with yourself

How the hell did you get that from some people saying a shirt was unprofessional
